Character Summary

The middle child of Leyanna and Skellan Chiesa, born on 33 Lollmeadow 200. A powerfully built lad, Kaylas showed no aptitude for farming or for fishing which left him as an easy target for his grandfather Sigmund to steer him in the direction of the church. Kaylas wasn't too upset about this, as he sees the importance of the Church of the Land, and being a cleric seems to be something he can do extremely well. The Church of the Land in Bear's Reach is extremely small (it just consists of Kaylas and Sigmund) and Kaylas takes the responsibility of one day being the 'high priest' seriously. Kaylas is also close to his other grandfather, and enjoys to listen to Vitor's stories - even though he isn't entirely convinced by them.

Original Character Background

This is the original character background provided by Jon in the run up to the Crucible of Youth campaign. It is not reproduced here in its entirety as some parts of it are not generally known by the villagers or the other player characters. This background wasn't so much changed by me as augmented. Yelanna Grushko: Maternal grandmother (64) once 5'7", now only 5'2", Yelanna is slim with long blond hair. Yelanna divides her time between sitting on the family porch awatching her family and cooking the finest apple and blackberry crumble in Norandor. In her mid-sixties, she is starting to get old (for the genre!), but is a hardened old thing, and doesn't look like succumbing to the ravages of time just yet.

Vitor Grushko: Maternal grandfather (58), he stands 6'0" tall and is of average build with brown hair. Vitor created the original farmstead on the land given to him, and has improved on their meagre beginnings. The farmstead comprises of two houses, a small barn, some arable land surrounding the houses, a small holding of livestock. Vitor arrived in town with Yelanna forty seasons ago, and was once a ranger or fighter of some note.

Carlotta Chiesa: Paternal grandmother (51); 5'5" in height. Kaylas's father's mother is a housewife. She looks after Vitor, attends to the Church of the land making sure its clean and well kept. She also helps out in the village and is generally well liked, if a little nosey, but she's not well, the ravages of time are starting to catch up with her. If she survives this winter, it may well be the last she sees. This is upsetting Sigmund, obviously... but what can you do?

Sigmund Chiesa: Paternal grandfather (52); 5'10" with black hair. Priist of the Church of the Land. Not overbearing, but devout, currently head of the Church of the Land and Mentor to Kayla. Father of two: Skellan and Heidi. Currently most concerned about the failing health of his wife Carlotta.

Leyanna Chiesa (née Grushko): Mother (39). Has lived in Bear's Reach all her life and met Kaylas's father here.

Skellen Chiesa: Father (38); 6'2" and broad-shouldered. Son of the local Church of the Land priest. Not cut out as priestly material, but the union seemed appropriate given my family's Farmstead. He has an excellent sense of humour, and is a great storyteller.Competant farmer under the tutelage of Vitor, but he has a natural flare for fishing, both from the shore line and in the boat. Part of the village militia, and trained by Vitor to fight.

Joachim Chiesa: Elder brother (21); 5'11" and stronly muscled. Being trained by Grandfather to fight, like my father, to take up position in milita. Now working on Farmstead. Also inherited flare for fishing. Dating beautiful girl from village called Alice.

Kaylas Chiesa: Not a natural Farmer or Angler. Taken on by Sigmund into the priesthood, with which he had a natural affinity. And through the teachings of Terranor he can aid with the farmstead and make the Village prosperous and healthy. Oft times fascinated by the stories told of great adventure by Vitor and Yelanna (probably tales of their adventures with Galen Thorn, but with the names changed), Kaylas dreams of bigger things, of adventure, of gold and towers and dungeons, although he's not sure he'd like the fighting. However, he realises that he is probably destined to take the role of the Priest of the Village, and that too would be an awfully big adventure.

Lanna: Younger sister (14). Blond and slim, and one of the few unattached girls in the village approaching marriageable age. She is the only daughter of Leyanna and Skellen.

Heidi: Paternal aunt (36). Heidi is a close family friend and often helps out on the farm of Yelanna and Vitor.

The following events can be considered of special significance to Kaylas since the beginning of the campaign:

Along with his companions Arax, Illyan, Thorn and Nits, Kaylas helps hide a box of filled with gold and gems in the bottom of the Von Turnsgate iron mine. He also enters the Whittenwood, helps apprehend Rod Njedelstrom and meets an evil tree.
