Patience, 91 Letum 1999 GR [continued]
Terday, 37 Autumn Colours 204 LE

The Scribe and Clara head through the spooky Mourngrim Manor. The place is filled with undead creatures, that unsettles Clara as she is still not convinced she is dead. The pair encounter the ghost of Lyria Mourngrim, an attractive woman in her early twenties (or at least that is how she appears). She is on good terms with the Scribe and is pleased to see that he is out and about. She seems to recognise Clara and intimates that she has seen the ex-elf before.

In the Scribe's library, the Scribe recovers the necessary funds to purchase the requested spells from Kessler. Clara draws his attention to a large oil painting on the wall. The Scribe has looked at it a million times, and never paid it much attention. Clara thinks that it is a painting of Lyria, but the Scribe says that it is actually a painting of Isabella Mourngrim (Lyria's great grandmother). The resemblance is striking. What is also striking is the fact that she is wearing the Necklace. So that's where the Scribe has seen it before…

As the Scribe searches through his library for any mention of Ysberyl (he finds none), Gazahi gets impatient and flies over the wall to search the manor grounds. He is chased away by an angry ghost and vows not to go back in there again. The Scribe and Clara return with the money (2000 kor), which the Scribe then trades with Kessler for the spells he needs. Everyone then returns to Greta's townhouse.

Obedience, 92 Letum 1999
Zephday, 38 Autumn Colours 204 LE

In the morning the party compares notes. Raegar at first refuses the Scribe's offer of healing, because he doesn't want to become indebted. However, Frederic Rathmore points out that they are all in the employ of Greta and therefore no debt will be incurred.

The Scribe casts a divination to try to find the most opportune time to attack Fisk. Should they attack tonight or wait until they are stronger? The response from the magic is "Greater preparation benefits both sides". They decide that they must ambush Fisk this evening, during his walk from work to his home. Frederica listens to the plan and gives it her approval.

The group speak with Greta (who is now propped up in bed) and she formally takes them into her employ. She approves of the plan to seize Fisk and question him, but says that they should not bring Fisk to her home. Revda suggests the ruined Darkmantle as an alternative venue. As Fisk was responsible for the loss of Greta's income, Revda goes onto to suggest that Greta become a silent partner in Fisk's water business in way of recompense. The Death Knight will put this to Fisk with as much diplomacy as the situation merits.

The group hatch a plan to snatch Fisk using Jirokichi's bag of holding. The idea being that Gazahi swoops down from above and snatches Fisk in the bag. But will it work? They spend much of the afternoon in the back garden practicing on Jirokichi, who doesn't manage to avoid the bag once. They determine the plan is a good one. Leaving Lycaon to guard Greta, the others head off to engage the enemy.

En route to combat, Raegar asked the Death Knight to behead him. It is an unusual request, but Revda accedes to it. Raegar grows an additional two heads which will apparently help his combat abilities.

Revda makes some of his motivations clear. Eventually, he desires revenge on a god of the dead called Mortis. He doesn't say why.

Fisk is walking through the street flanked by four ogres. Another, hunched, figure is following the procession. It is just like the previous evening. Gazahi swoops down and bundles Fisk into the bag. The ogre body guards react, but Gazahi manages to dodge their blows and take to the air. The hunched figure suddenly disappears.

One would think that the mission was a success, but Revda still wants a crack at those ogres. Jirokichi and the death knight soften the ogres up with some ranged magic. Then Revda and Raegar charge the ogres who are half-elemental and have some magical powers (they have conjured spike stones on the ground and hidden themselves behind at obscuring mist). The Scribe and Clara are largely superfluous and stay out of the way.

The battle with the ogres was brutal, and it didn't look as though Revda or Raegar would survive. In fact, Raegar doesn't. He is laid low with a blow from one of the ogres and starts bleeding to death. Meanwhile the party comes under ranged attack from the roof tops, as Jirokichi is hit by a powerful ball of acid. It is difficult to locate the attacker because he seems to be dimension-dooring out of sight. Eventually, Clara spots him and flies up to attack.

Clara sees the attacker is a hobbit, and also a tainted scholar by the look of him. She scares the bejesus out of him, but he returns fire with a host of force missiles that very nearly blow Clara away. The hobbit retreats and the ghost returns to the necklace.

Lord Revda continues to fight the remaining ogres, it is a terrible battle! Jirokichi - somehow reasoning that you and Revda would avoid the effect - dumps a ball of electrical energy into the combat. Revda is immune to electricity (pretty much like everything else), but the spell damages the ogres sufficiently to allow Revda to take them down before he dies. He finishes the combat on 3 hit points. Sadly, Raegar finished the combat on -30 hit points. Death at the hands of Jirokichi's wayward spell.

But there is some poetic justice. Jirokichi's first act on discovering Raegar dead is to loot his body. He grabs the swords that turn into swarms of spiders and is instantly attacked. Because of the earlier acid orb, Jirokichi has very few hit points, and has no way to deal with a swarm. He runs around screaming, while he is being nibbled and poisoned to death.

The Scribe, Gazahi and Revda don't really know what to do. Revda suggests chucking the nezumi in the near-by canal. The Scribe suggests fire. Gazahi flies to a near-by oil burning street lamp and returns with burning oil. By this time, Jirokichi is unconscious. Oil is poured over the rat, and the undead watch him burn. Unfortunately, he is burning faster than the spiders, and taking damage from the spiders (as well as Con damage from the poison).

Just when it looks as though Jirokichi is going to be burned to death, Revda picked him up and throws him in the canal. This puts out the fire. Unfortunately, as Jirokichi was unconscious, he sinks and immediately began to drown. The Scribe, Gazahi and Revda bicker about which one of them should go into the canal and fish Jirokichi out. Eventually, Gazahi performs the grim deed.

The spiders (and therefore the swords) are lost in the canal. Jirokichi is dragged out on -26 hit points and barely alive. All his fur has been burned away by a mixture of fire and acid, he is covered in bite marks and he has a received a very painful lesson in not to rob the bodies of his comrades!
