Patience, 91 Letum 1999 GR
Terday, 37 Autumn Colours 204 LE

The ghost of Clara quickly fades, and so the Scribe decides to cast 'legend lore' on the necklace. He discovers that it is more than 10,000 *years* old and is one of twelve such artefacts created by the elven goddess Sehanine. If an elf wearing the necklace dies through violence, the necklace catches their soul to prevent it from being lost. If the necklace is then taken to Arvandor the soul can be released into the afterlife. Evidently the necklace was in Tam's possession for some time, but what he did with it was not of legendary important. According to Clara the necklace was given to her one thousand years ago by her father. The Scribe wishes he could remember where he has seen the necklace before!

During the night, Lycaon bemoans taking a soul. He seems to regret it. Lord Revda with nothing better to do, cleans the house and tidies all the dead bodies into the back garden. Jirokichi is up early to continue searching for Greta's wealth. He hears a knock at the door. It is a severe looking human woman (probably younger than she looks) who introduces herself as Frederica Rathmore: Greta's housekeeper. She has come for her mistress's body, but on learning that Greta is still alive she demands to be taken to her.

Frederica is very forceful, and Jirokichi complies. She meets the other PCs, and doesn't seem remotely fazed by the death knight or the barghest. She has a cool head this one! Frederica explains that she was ordered to flee the house the previous evening. She doesn't know why the Banshee Knights attacked, and didn't even know they were Banshee Knights. However, she suspects that they were looking for something in the house and not someone. Within a few minutes the party have decided to take Frederica into their confidence and she is offering suggestions about what to do next, and how to better protect Greta. She then goes to look after Greta.

The party discuss ways of putting Fisk out of business but eventually dismiss them. Jirokichi tells Sillander that he wants to invest in rebuilding the Darkmantle (although he doesn't tell Sillander that he is going to use the sea-kin's own money to do it). Sillander departs to go back to the theatre and secure a surveyor. The Scribe says that he also needs the services of a surveyor.

The party now splits up. The Scribe and Gazahi will go and retrieve the body of Amulkan'set. Meanwhile the other four will go and confront Fisk.

The Scribe and Gazahi head into Chapel Gate to the inn where Amulkan'set was staying. It is a hovel and quite a dangerous place (fortunately Gazahi is a dangerous person). Amulkan'set's body is hidden in the toilet (a wooden seat over a chute that sends waste into the street). Gazahi attacked his quarry while he was on the toilet and put a sneak attack into his bottom. The Scribe despairs at the sort of company he is keeping.

On their way back to Greta's house with Amulkan'set the pair are ambushed. Although the pair of assailants are quickly despatched by Gazahi, they attack with a deadly sonic attack. The Scribe and Gazahi now have three bodies to struggle back into Oldgate with.

Fisk holds fourteen yards of prime real estate on the banks of the Fallow Flow. The area is defended by a high wall and ogre guards. Fisk is human, although he seems quite heavily tainted, and half his face is paralysed. The party are not allowed to enter the compound and Fisk doesn't come out. He stands on the wall and speaks down to them. He seems confident, but the presence of the death knight and barghest obvious unsettles him.

Fisk says that he always sends one of his servants to take the Grey Minstrel his water every day *except* yesterday. On that day, the sea-kin boy Darmel came to collect it. Fisk doesn't know why and says that he thought it was suspicious at the time. Lord Revda warns that if Fisk is lying then there will be deadly consequences. They then depart to confront Darmel. Lycaon tells Revda that he thinks Fisk was lying.

The party of four arrive at the home of Darmel. The home is slung under the piers of Wharfgate and half flooded. As Lycaon enters Darmel's father attacks with a mace. Lycaon grabs him and inadvertently cleaves the man's skull in. Raegar hears commotion in an adjacent room and runs into to discover Darmel's mother who puts an arrow in his chest. Raegar is still badly wounded from the fight with the kytons and collapses. Revda is a little annoyed at this stage and runs the mother through. Then he goes to look for Darmel.

He sees a disturbance in the water and catches sight of Darmel fleeing into the water through a hatch in the floor. He jumps after Darmel and grabs him. However, he is far from buoyant and sinks to the bottom of the fetid bay. Lycaon and Jirokichi (carrying Raegar) meet Revda at the shore half an hour later which is the time it takes for the death knight to walk back to the bank through the silt. Unfortunately, by this time Darmel has drowned.

So when the party reconvenes at Greta's house they have four dead bodies between them. Lord Revda smells terrible and his armour is covered in scum. He is not very pleased. The Scribe revives Raegar who is extremely embarrassed at his poor showing. The Scribe casts Speak with Dead on Darmel and they ascertain he was innocent and knows nothing about the poisoning. All fingers are pointing at Fisk.

However, Raegar is in a very bad way and the Scribe hasn't got the spells to heal him. He proposes going to his 'source' for more healing magic (and a speak with dead spell as he seems to be needing that with alarming regularity). The Scribe, Gazahi, Raegar and the recently returned Clara depart the city to meet with Kessler - a being who dwells in a copse of razor pines a mile outside Tharkis. It is getting dark and a number of worrying howls can be heard in the valley.

The three do not meet Kessler. He is merely a voice in the trees. He agrees to obtain the spells for the Scribe and also to accept payment for them on this occasion. The Scribe and the others return to Tharkis to visit Mourngrim Manor (home of the Scribe) to get the 2000 Kor to pay Kessler.

Meanwhile Revda and Jirokichi do some reconnaissance. They believe that they would be better off ambushing Fisk on his way between his work in Wharfgate and his home in Oldgate. They wait at the gate between Wharfgate and Oldgate for him - even if he varies his route he must come through this gate. They count four ogres protecting Fisk as well as another hooded man. Revda is seen by them.

Because Mourngrim Manor is filled with the undead Raegar and Gazahi remain outside. The Scribe and Clara enter the overgrown grounds of the place and meet the gardener Easterley (now a ghoul). They then enter the crumbling and decayed castle. Clara can see why the Scribe needs a surveyor.
