Iourn Home > Cosmology of Iourn > The Astral Plane

The following text charts the changes that have been made to the Astral Plane for the purposes of the Iourn Cosmology. Players should assume that any published rules for the material plane that do not directly contradict to following should stand. Details of the Astral Plane can be found in Dungeon Master's Guide p154, Manual of the Planes p47 and The Planar Handbook p136.

Material Plane Traits

  • No Gravity (creatures move by the power of thought)
  • Timeless
  • Infinite Size
  • Alterable Morphic
  • No Elemental or Energy Traits
  • Mildly neutral-aligned
  • Enhanced Magic

Planar Connections

The astral plane is omnipresent. It connects to every known plane of existence EXCEPT THE GREYMERE. A more detailed analysis of how each plane connects with the astral is hardly necessary, because that is really all travellers need to know. However, there are two known planes where a further description of astral interaction is required.

Transitive Planes

  • Region of Dreams: Travellers can send their astral self into the Region of Dreams, or they can can use the astral to physically enter this plane. Either way, such travellers are not dreamers. They have no power over Dream in this state and therefore find themselves extremely vulnerable to the nature of the plane. Even those skilled in Lucid Dreaming cannot use this ability while in astral or physical form.

Outer Planes

  • The Great Dark: The Great Dark is connected normally to the Astral, and characters using the Astral Plane can circumvent the Enceinte. However, any native of the Great Dark - i.e. the original prisoners or any of their descendants cannot use the Astral to escape. Spells cast by these individuals simply fail.
