Walker, Cadence: First cousin
of Kaylas Chiesa. Born in Autumn 203 to Heidi and Edmund Walker.
She was named after the Cadence Walker that married Aelius Thorn
back in Autumn 188.
Walker, Cavark: Only son of Mabel
and Esher Walker, born in Winter 193. Cavark has always followed
his father's teachings of tolerance, compassion and understanding.
This is what led him to join the town militia - a desire to help
people. Unjustifiably proud of being second in command of the militia
for many seasons (unjustificable because there are only four of
them) he respected his superior Vitor Grushko as an honourable man
who primed Cavark with a rudimentary knowledge of swordsmanship.
When Vitor was revealed to be a murderer on 34 Chillbone 204, Cavark
stepped up and took over the militia, but has found his faith in
human nature badly shaken. Cavark married Etna Miller in Summer
198, and the pair had one daughter, Barris. In the Spring of 200
Cavark was patrolling the outskirts of the Wyrwood when he noticed
several crows circling over an item in the bushes. It was a baby
half-orc, that could not have been more than a few hours old. He
took it home and convinced his wife to nurse the infant back to
health. Cavark (and Esher) stood before the council, championing
the life of the half-orc and eventually they won the right to led
Nits stay in the village. Cavark brought up Nits in his own image,
and was extremely proud when Nits joined the militia in the summer
of 204.
Walker, Chas: First cousin of
Kaylas Chiesa. Born in Spring 200 to Heidi and Edmund Walker. Chas
has an amazing affinity for mushrooms and, ever since a boy, has
been able to name any type of edible or inedible fungus in the Bear's
Reach region. The rest of the village considers him suitably strange.
Chas married Elizabeth Miller in Winter 203, and has a son called
Winston.
Walker, Dot: First cousin of
Kaylas Chiesa. Born in Autumn 201 to Heidi and Edmund Walker. An
excessively giggly young girl who has been promising to grow out
of her annoying habbits for the best part of seven years. She is
much like her mother, some say.
Walker, Edmund: Kaylas Chiesa's
uncle by marriage. Born into the Walker family in Autumn 194, Edmund
is the twin brother of Ellen Walker (now Ellen Farmer). A dashing
young man who finally tamed Heidi Chiesa and made an honest woman
of her. Heidi and Edmund were married in Winter 199 and produced
seven children, five of which survive. Edmund is tall and dark with
excessively bushy eyebrows and sad belief he can play the ukulele.
Walker, Elizabeth (née Miller):
First cousin of Kaylas Chiesa by marriage. Born into the Miller
family in Summer 200. A baker's daughter who met her intended by
continually deliverin gloaves of bread he hadn't asked for until
he noticed her, she married Chas Walker in Winter 203. Elizabeth
is the mother of Winston Walker, and also helps to nurture her husband's
fungus farm.
Walker, Elmer: First cousin of
Kaylas Chiesa. Born in Spring 202 to Heidi and Edmund Walker. Elmer
died when he was four seasons of age after he was bitten by something
while swimming in Higham Dip.
Walker, Emily: First cousin of
Kaylas Chiesa. Born in Spring 201 to Heidi and Edmund Walker. Heidi
was very close to her brother, Nurgen and saw him drown under the
ice when she was eleven seasons of age. This profoundly effected
her. She has become obsessed with death, and keeps to her room burning
candles and other foul smelling thinks she gets from Dominic Dyer
in the hope of conjuring up the spirit of her dead brother.
Walker, Esher: Ageing and decrepit
patriarch of the Walker family, Esher was born in Autumn 187 on
the Scarstone Spit and he and his mother had to be rescued before
the tide came in. Esher married Mabel Dyer in Autumn 194 and has
six children: May, Bernadette, Anna, Isobel, Gina and Cavark (his
only son). A tolerant and open minded-man, Esher has tried to instill
in his children patience, and an ability to see the world through
another's eyes. He is extremely proud of Cavark for taking in the
infant half-orc, Nits, when most of the town wanted to flush it
into the sea. He is also extremely close to his son-in-law, Ras
Smith, whom he sees as a kindred spirit. Esher was windowed in Winter
200 and since then has thrown his energies into the council.
Walker, Etna (née Miller):
Born to parents Sheldon and Fyana in Spring 194, Etna married the
affable and charming Cavark Walker in Summer 198, and the pair had
one daughter, Barris.. She greatly admires and respects her husband's
compassion and his ability to stand up for what is right regardless
of the cost to himself. She was a little uncertain when he suggested
taking in an infant half-orc that Cavark discovered, but she soon
warmed to the idea, and she treats Nits like her own son.
Walker, Heidi (née Chiesa):
Aunt of Kaylas Chiesa. Heidi was born in Autumn 195, the second
and last child of Sigmund and Carlotta Chiesa. A stunningly attractive,
red-headed girld Heidi embarked upon a string of torrid affairs
in her youth before eventually settling for Edmund Walker, whom
she married in Winter 199. Since then Heidi seems to have been content
to sit back and make babies although after seven children (five
of whom survive) she has called a halt to the production line. A
firm friend to her brother Skellan and his wife she can often be
found around their farmstead.
Walker, Joan (née Goodie):
Born into the Goodie family in Spring 187, Joan was married to Percy
Walker in Summer 193. She had five children: Adelaide, Ellen, Edmund,
Aishling and Kimberley. She died in Winter 203 at the age of sixty-seven
seasons.
Walker, Mabel (née Dyer):
Born into the Dyer family in Spring 188, Mabel was married Esher
Walker in Autumn 187. She produced six children in her eventful
life: May, Bernadette, Anna, Isobel, Gina and Cavark (her only son).
Mabel died in Winter 200 from pneumonia. She was fifty-one seasons
of age.
Walker, Nits: The only half-orc
in the village of Bear's Reach, Nits was discovered only hours after
his birth in Spring 200 by constable Cavark Walker. Cavark convinced
his wife, Etna, to nurse Nits back to health and won Nits a place
in the village. Nits is extremely grateful to his father, and since
Summer 204 he has served beside him in the militia. Nits has suffered
from a form of narcolepsy all his life. He falls asleep at the most
inopportune moment and sometimes cannot be roused for days. Nits
is cheerful and knows there is prejudice against him, but thinks
that a winning smile and being unending nice and cheerful to everyone
he meets can overcome any problem. He is not stupid though. He believes
that his mother is someone who lives in the village who fell pregnant
to an orc, concealed the pregancy and then abandoned him as soon
as he was born. Nits doesn't blame his mother for this, and he respects
her privacy by not trying to discover her identity. To Nits, Cavark
and Etna are his parents, and Barris his sister.
Walker, Nurgen: First cousin
of Kaylas Chiesa. Born in Summer 200 to Heidi and Edmund Walker,
Nurgen was a devil-may-care adventurer. He was tragically killed
in Winter 203 when he fell through the ice of Higham Dip and drowned.
Walker, Percy: Ex-patriach of the Walker family born in Autumn 185.
He married Joan Goodie in Summer 193 and had five children: Adelaide,
Ellen, Edmund, Aishling and Kimberley. Percy died in Autumn 200
and his place on the village council was taken over by his cousin,
Esher.
Walker, Sarah: First cousin of
Kaylas Chiesa. Born in Autumn 202 to Heidi and Edmund Walker. Sarah
is more than a little sticky-fingered and has been caught lifting
any number of small objects she finds unattended on peoples windowsills,
tables or in their pockets. She has been reprimanded on more than
one occasion but the magpie-like Sarah is incorrigible.
Wallon: Norandan town.
Wardens: Guardians of Seletine
Park, clad in green leather and the only ones allowed to ride horses
within the parkland.
Warmakers: Members of the Church
of Contention.
Watchers on the Cusp of Oblivion:
Also known as the Watchers, this is a faith of the god Mortis primarily
concerned with death, passing and loss. Clerics of this religion
officiate at funerals. The Watchers detest undead in all its forms
and will oppose it where they find it. They also have an abiding
hatred of resurrection in any form, and will seek to thwart it when
they can. This led to the war between the Watchers and the Firestarters
that broke out on 3rd Suntask 20, and raged for more than a month.
Watermaster/Watermistress: An
archaic term for Wavemistress within the Church of Water.
Wavemaster/Wavemistress: High
priest in the Church of Water.
Waveservant, Llaeric: One of
the thirteen companions of Scarman Thorn who came to Bear's Reach
in 38 LE. A fundamentalist Sharrashan priest.
Ways: Technically, the name given
by the dwarves to any labyrinthine stretch of subterranean tunnels;
but normally applied to the specific tunnels that connect the dwarven
holds to the north and south of the Straits of Gunstadtan. The Ways
run beneath the sea linking the Heart of Underbarren with great
dwarf-hold of Kulhâzan. Trained deep-guides are necessary
to interpret the cunning markers carved into the stone, to find
the path through the Ways. Without such a guide one would undoubtedly
blunder into the dark and evil creatures that lurk there, or become
forever lost in the identical tunnels.
Weary Gondolier: Inn located
in Sorgar.
Weary Traveller: Inn located
in the Village of the Eighteen Churches. The landlady is a human
called Lysas, who is a member of the Odyssian Church.
Weaver [mistress]: An imposing
tree-trunk of a woman, and proprietess of The Spinning Top in Kelrin.
Mistress Weaver does close business with the Order of the Seventh
Moon who send monks to her to complete their Trial of Temptation.
She is not above running a book on the outcome.
Weaver, Belle (née Walker):
Born into the Walker family in Spring 188, she married Rufus Weaver
in Autumn 192. Belle Weaver is now enjoying a semi-retirement allowing
her various daughters and grandchildren to service her needs. She
has five children (Verona, Magda, Ellis Havelock and Curly), five
grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Weaver, Curly: Only son of Rufus
and Belle Weaver, born in Autumn 193. Curly was so named do to his
incredible thick head of hair. Unfortunately he lost it all when
he was fourteen and so his name is wholly inappropriate. Curly married
Kimberley Walker in Summer 198. He has five children: Mulberry,
Jasmin, Vitto, Gina and Kaleel.
Weaver, Edna (née Farmer):
Second cousin once removed of Thorn Njedelstrom. Daughter and elder
child of Gellem and Adelaide Farmer. Born in Summer 200, Edna was
married to Mulberry Weaver in Summer 204. She then left the family
farm to work with the weavers. The pair have one child called Korn.
Edna is a simple, vacuous girl with very little grip on reality,
although she is extremely pretty.
Weaver, Fulton: Born into the
Weaver family in Winter 185, Fulton was once the Chronicler of Bear's
Reach. He recorded all births, deaths and marriages and kept the
great ledger of events up to date. When he died in Autumn 199 the
duties passed to his nephew, Havelock, who had taken a keen interest
in the work.
Weaver, Gaynor (née Cooper):
First cousin once removed of Thorn Njedelstrom. Gaynor was the second
child of Knarris and Lily Cooper. She was born in Summer 200, and
married Vitto Weaver early in the Autumn of 204. The union has yet
to be blessed with a child, mainly because Gaynor hasn't the room.
She has a habit of taking in strays and she has filled her home
with orphaned fox cubs, rabbits, birds with broken wings and the
like.
Weaver, Havelock: Fourth child
of Rufus and Belle Weaver, born in Autumn 194. From a very early
age, Havelock always had his nose in a book. He spent most of his
childhood in the company of the old Chronicler, his uncle Fulton.
By the time Havelock was in his early teens, he understood the ins
and outs of the filing system and Fulton began to trust him to record
details for himself. When Fulton died in Autumn 199 after falling
from a ladder while trying to reach a particularly heavy ledger,
Havelock was the obvious choice to succeed him despite being only
twenty seasons at the time. Havelock has not disappointed. His duties
as Chronicler have not left Havelock with much of an opportunity
to get married, have a job any hobbies or much of a personality.
However, he fills a vital role in the community that most other
people are far to lazy to do.
Weaver, Kimberley (née Walker):
Born into the Walker family (fortunately a different branch from
that of her mother-in-law) in Spring 193. Kimberley married Curly
Weaver in Summer 198. She has five children: Mulberry, Jasmin, Vitto,
Gina and Kaleel.
Weaver, Korn: Second cousin twice
removed of Thorn Njedelstrom. Baby born late in the summer of 204
LE and currently the only son of his parents Mulberry and Edna.
Weaver, Mulberry: Thorn Njedelstrom's
second cousin once removed by marriage. Born in Summer 199, Mulberry
married Edna Farmer in early Summer 204. The couple currently have
one son, Korn who was born in late Summer 204. Mulberry married
Edna for her looks and now finds that her lack of intelligence is
driving him nuts.
Weaver, Rufus: Current patriarch
of the Weaver family, born in Spring 188. He married Belle Walker
in Autumn 192, and they are the oldest couple still living in the
village. They had five children: the twins Verona and Magda, Ellis,
Havelock and Curly.
Weaver, Vitto: Thorn Njedelstrom's
first cousin once removed by marriage. Vitto is a young, slightly
rotund man, who enjoys a life of sitting down and weaving baskets,
fishing nets and blankets. He has no ambition except to eat well,
sleep much and live a generally quiet life. He is in no hurry to
have a child and encourages his new wife, Gaynor, in her hobby of
collecting sick animals.
Wenneb: Wizard in the employ
of Fenton Pryde. He was charged with the task of protecting the
bandit-lord O'Keef, but was killed by the Chosen of Narramac on
43rd Suntask 204. His spell-book was later given to Misgon.
West Cross: Norandan town.
West Uris Road: Road in Norandor
from Uris to Timberlake via Vrex Cross.
Westerland: Duchy of Norandor
ruled from Narrisham by Duke Gardoneaux.
Weston: One of the soldiers in
the retinue of Baron Tannith Swift who came to Bear's Reach on 30
Chillbone 204. One of the guards who allowed Arax Chandar to escape
two days later. He was placed on guard duty outside the Old Mill
to make sure it did not happen again. He pursued Vitor Grushko into
the Whittenwood on 34 Chillbone. It is not known whether he still
lives.
Westram, Obadiah: One of the
thirteen companions of Scarman Thorn who came to Bear's Reach in
38 LE. Obadiah was a servant of the god, Vítaeous.
Weybridge: Large town in Umbria.
Driskal is the squrie here.
Weyland: Small logging and subsistence
farming community high in the Cullbarren Peaks with a population
of about 100 people. Weyland has an increasing problem with hostile
goblins, leading to more than half the population of the village
to leave and make the difficult journey to Timberlake. When visited
by the Chosen of Narramac in Lollmeadow 204, Weyladn was a community
on the verge of collapse.
Wheel: Tavern in Uris.
White Bear Peak: The eastern
post mountain of the Cullbarren Peaks, located thirty miles to the
north of Bear's Reach. White Bear Peak is about four thousand feet
high and was of religious significance to the Bearmen who once lived
in the area. It is the source of the River Running.
Whiteheart, Arok: One of the
thirteen companions of Scarman Thorn who came to Bear's Reach in
38 LE. A mystic dedicated to the moon gods.
Whisper Vaults: Old dwarven mines
located very close to Kovar in Kerikal so called because of the
vast tunnels that run through them magnify even the smallest sound.
Once home to thousands of dwarves, the Vaults were abandoned when
something evil took over them. No dwarf and few Men have ventured
into the vaults in hundreds of seasons. The ranger Wulf, knows the
Vaults however, and led the Chosen of Narramac through them on 30th
Midsummer 204.
Whisper: Beautiful and deadly.
Whisper is an albino and a renowed assassin. She embarked on Narramac's
great quest of Brightday 204, and was teamed with Josepp, Drasha,
Misgon, Deerkor and Kismo. On 38 Brightday Whisper came an inch
from murdering Ravenna but was stopped by the intervention of the
Lady Drasha. When the party clashed with Deerkor, Kismo and Josepp
in the Maw of Io two days later, Whisper was not to be seen. It
was assumed that she was trapped within the Maw of Io when the portal
closed, but she was encountered again on 25 Heathaze 204 when she
tried for the Blade of Hope in the Ceremony of the Sword. To the
relief of the Chosen of Narramac, she failed.
White Suite: A luxurious six-bedroom
apartment located in the Royal Palace in Uirs. The suite was given
to the Chosen of Narramac as their quarters on 14th Suntask 204.
According to Lady Drasha, the suite used to be the private abode
of Narramac and is located where the wizard could keep an eye on
the king's tower.
Whittenwood: A truly ancient
evergreen woodland that surrounds Bear's Reach and covers much of
the northerly Arm of Uros.
Wilderlands: Name given to the
western portion of Calclafique that is outside the civilised democratic
enclave. The Wilderlands are a counterpaine of sparse woodland,
plains and desert that is inhabited by nomands, bandits and monsters.
Wildmen: The name given by most
'civilised' people to the barbarian hordes of Kerikal. The Üganthé
actually quite like the term, and use it themselves.
Wildred: A member of the Chosen
of Narramac's domestic staff. He is a carpenter, groom and general
odd-job man.
Wildshape: The greatest power
of druid is his ability to change his shape. Wildshaping has its
dangers and druids have been known to be so completely swept up
in their new form to remain that way forever. Wildshaping is something
of a narcotic to the Order - once they start, they don't like to
stop. Druids who can wildshape are known as the Accepted.
Windslá: Norandan Town.
Witch Wyrd: Title given to Sarakite.
Its exact meaning is unknown.
Withers, Durlan: Member of the
Council of Adventure of overseer of the activites of the Guild of
Adventurers in the dwarven land of Gunstadtan. A human himself,
Durlan has a close relationship with the ambassador to dwarves,
Niergan.
Wold: Semi-autonomous hobbit
land within Norandor.
Woldwood: Large forest located
within The Wold.
Wraith Haunt: Area of northern
Norandor infamous for its wandering undead creatures. Such creatures
seldom emerge from the area, and there has not been a sizeable incursion
since late in 201 LE. An expedition sponsored by Silas Reshen in
Scatterseed 204 discovered the reason for this was the rise of a
powerful undead 'witchwyrd' called Sarakite who seemed to have dominion
over all such creatures. This was reported to the church of the
Watchers. In the Brightday of 204 it was noted by the party (2),
that ghouls had inexplicably wandered far to the south of the Wraith
Haunt and were threatening the main road between Oakholme and Northmeet.
To the locals of the area, the place is commonly called The Haunted
Wood.
Wrardin, Aldous: Noradon representative on the Council of Adventure.
Wren: Member of the Bombastic cell that entered Caled Castle on
1st Lollmeadow 204. She was later determined to be the long lost
Rio Shai'ir.
Wulf: A very well known and respected
ranger in northern Kerikal. Wulf has long hatred of orcs, but was
willing to put those feelings aside to work with Goretooth in the
campaign in the Plains of Acheron in Midsummer 204. He met the Chosen
of Narramac on 30th Midsummer and fought by their side in the following
days. Wulf radiates a quiet charisma and is obviously someone you
can respect and depend upon. Many other rangers idolise him.
Wulgarth, Krydon: Lord High General
of the Church of Contention shortly after it was formed in 33 LE.
He was responsible for creating the Eighth Battalion.
Wyrwood: A wood of evergreen
and deciduous trees that cushions Bear's Reach from the Whittenwood
beyond.
