FAQ

Iourn Home > A to Z > U

Üganthé: The barbarian race that occupies much of mid and northern Kerikal. The Üganthé were once one tribe, but over the decades have various schisms and disagreements have turned them into a hundred different clans. The Üganthé war on one another as often as anyone else, but they have no love for orcs and a genuine respect for the druidic order.

Ulno, Maurice: High priest of the Sylvani Faith, based in Uris. Present at the Ceremony of the Sword on 25 Heathaze 204.

Umbria: Ancient Norandon barony created in 31 LE by Yaddagon I for his friend Dalamir. Originally called Ambria after Dalamir's wife. Located fifty miles west of Uris, Umbria is within the King's land. The baron answers directly to the king, and a close relationship has always existed between the the King of Norandor and the Baron of Umbria. Umbria is flat, fertile and extremely wealthy, having won the right to tax trade travelling down river to the capital in 139 LE. 25,000 people dwell in Umbria, making it extremely populace. The capital and seat of the baron is island-city of Oldheart, while squires in the towns of Axham, Gathmoor, Barton, Weybridge and Ferring govern a small area. The Leston family became the barons of Umbria in 88 LE, and the line continued unbroken until Baron Joseph Leston was killed by Elias Raithbourne on 22 Heathaze 204.

Unction, Rufus: Commander of the guards at Oldheart Manor. An entirely chinless mountain of a man.

Underbarron: The only dwarven clanhold located south of the Straits of Gunstadtan. The dwarves of Underbarron are quite different from their northern cousins, but they have endeavoured to keep close links with the Gunstadtan dwarves. Niergan, Norandon ambassador-to-dwarves is in communication with this clanhold. The king of Underbarren is Kontüf - his hold is currently doing battle against an increasing goblin presence in the Cullbarrens.

Uneer, Belsan [archnecrotain]: Archnecrotain of Sorgar.

Úngoris: Duchy of Norandor ruled from Western Cross by Duke Galvus.

Úngorn: Massive and ancient woodland in western Norandor.

Unwilling Woman: Tavern in Sorgar.

Uri: A mighty river flowing from the Glasswater tarn through Uris and out into the sea. It is the main trade route into the moutains.

Uris: Greatest city in Norandor and thus all of Urova. Built on the ruins of New Hadras, Uris is home to over 30,000 people and is an archaeologist's dream come true.

Uros: Greatest historical figure and hero in Urovan history. Uros was born in northern Norandor in 11 PL and was responsible for the summoning of the gods and the arrival of the moons in the sky above Iourn. It was the power of the gods that was instrumental in driving the Hadradans off the fractured continent and making it free for the first time in a thousand seasons. Details of Uros' actual life has been lost to time: some say he was a warrior, others that he was a wizard - most say that he had a close firendship with halfling daredevil Nero Beredaire. Whatever his life he made perhaps the greatest impact on history of any mortal. The continent Urova and the capital of Norandor (Uris) are named after him. Uros is considered to be the first King of Norandor in addition to his other accolades. Uros was a godspeaker. He had the marks on his skin that singled him out as being able to talk to the gods. Very few since then have shown such a talent.

Urosday: Religious celebration marked by all the moon faiths representing the arrival of the moon gods in the lives of Man.

Urova: The fracture continent of Urova, in the northern hemisphere of the world of Iourn. Urova is a continent divided by great force into twenty-nine islands and smaller continents and an even greater number of countries. Until 1 LE Urova was called Barbrasa and was ruled by the Hadradan Empire until the coming of the gods and the bravery of Uros and his companions threw off the oppressors.

Ursus: Chief of the Bearmen who imprisoned Scarman Thorn. Legend has it that Ursus eventually became Scarman's close friend and father-in-law.

Usslüs: Magical bronze long sword taken from the king of the one of the many barrow mounds dotting the barrowmoor by Elias Raithborne. According to Narramac, the sword was forged in ages past by a human civilisation to act as a weapon in their wars against giant-kind. The sword is particularly effective against true giants and ogres.

Uthmar: One of the soldiers in the retinue of Baron Tannith Swift who came to Bear's Reach on 30 Chillbone 204. He pursued Vitor Grushko into the Whittenwood on 34 Chillbone. It is not known whether he still lives.
