Narltooth: Visionary orc warlord
who gained tremendous personal power, and led a combined force of
orcs, goblins, hobgoblins, gnolls and bugbears agains Kerikal, Stonebark
and Gunstadtan in the early days of the lunar era. He was killed
while he slept by unknown assassins resulting in the fragmentation
of his army.
Narramac: Powerful human wizard
- as old as the mountains and as deep as the sea - Narramac served
as wizard at the court of Yaddagon XIV for four years until his
disappearance in 196 LE. Despite the intervening time the mystery
of what happened to Narramac is still a great topic of after-dinner
conversation. Narramac waited more than thirty seasons before revealing
himself. On 15th Gentle Days 204, Narramac called all manner of
adventurers to Mount Korvast, with the promise of ultimate magical
power. On the first day of summer he sent hundreds off on a quest
to prove their worth for this power. He appeared again when the
questors returned to Mount Korvast and selected the victors who
went on to become the Chosen of Narramac. Narramac has given irregular
help to the Chosen since then. In appearance, the old wizard is
nothing like one would imagine. He is a hunched-over beggarly man
who continually puffs away on a ragged dog-end that never seems
to go out. He began taking a more active interest in the lives of
his Chosen when they set out for Kerikal in Midsummer 204, and even
arrived in the middle of their great battle against the orcish hosts
of the evil Archdruid Tular on 34 Midsummer. He could not prevent
Arvan's 'death' and tried to mastermind a replacement for him in
the form of the gnome, Ellyboodle. The Chosen became aware that
Narramac was not telling them everything and began to distrust the
old wizard - even after he restored the mind of Rio Shai'ir on 24
Heathaze 204. When Arvan returned from the Great Dark with a comprehensive
tale of woe, light was thrown on the nature of the swords and the
apparent purpose Narramac had in store for his Chosen.

for many weeks following his encounter with a wraith. She was later
to revealed to be a working for the evil demon who rules the witchwyrd,
Sarakite, and had been influencing Jass' dreams. She was interred
by high priest Thaddeus Carvin, but later escaped. She was later
discovered to have replaced one of Jass's eyes with its evil twin.
The reason for this remains unknown. She was last seen on 48th Suntask
204, leaving the Village of the Eigtheen Churches with Aldric Kurst.
Nelmentes: Bastard brother of
Yaddagon XIV and father of Galahyde the Black. Now deceased.
Nethgar [duke]: Duke of Coutan.
Neverton Road: Road in Norandor
that runs from Neverton to Northmeet via Ishyar and Vrex Cross.
Neverton: Norandan town.
Nevin [necross]: Watcher from
the House of Passing in the Village of the Eighteen Churches. On
44th Suntask 204 he summoned Salamar Russ and his companions to
Archnecrotain Varamil, Druid Jelanie and Belerus Rothsman. He was
later chased back to the Village by the viper, Victor.
New Galys: Norandan town.
New Hadras: Main base of Hadradan
operations on the continent of Barbrasa (Urova). Renamed Uris with
the coming of the gods.
Niamh: Servant at Osroth Manor
near Oakholme. In the evening of 6th Brightday 204 she was working
in the kitchen when the party (2) burst in to find the squire. She
witnessed the guard, Rex, burned to death by Nicos and later fled
the building. She was discovered later in the evening by Minsc and
Ravenna and near-fatally injured herself trying to escape.
Niergan: Norandor ambassador
to the dwarves of Gunstadtan. He lives in the mountain community
of Timberlake. Niergan is currently in open communication with the
dwarves of Underbarron, although how seriously they take him is
another matter.
Nimrill Bay: Very large bay cut
into the northerly coast of the Gunstadtan hills. The dwarves of
Gunstadtan receive and sell trade through Nimrill Bay, although
they have no ships of their own. Nimrill Bay is part of the environs

Nina: Cleric of Vítaeous

that Io embodies the alignments of all dragons.
Ninefondle, Sapphire Aloysius:

of Damodred O'Hare and sparked the necromancer's peculiar quest
for revenge. Ninefondle is a member of the Council of Colours.
Ninemen [Sir]: Knight and one
of the four lords of Hillcrest.
Njedelstrom, Adelia (née Miller):
Paternal great-aunt of Thorn Njedlstrom. Wife of Joseph Njedelstrom
and mother to Celia, Mulgen and Took. She died at the age of fifty
seasons in spring 196 LE, surviving her husband and sons by thirteen
seasons.
Njedelstrom, Anna: First cousin
twice removed of Thorn Njedelstrom. Anna is the younger child of
Gillespie and Baris Njedelstrom. Born in the spring of 203 LE, Anna
is a bit of wild child and can found tearing around the town, her
clothes ripped and muddy.
Njedelstrom, Artur: First cousin
of Thorn Njedelstrom. Artur was born in Spring 194, the second child
of Danner and Elsa Njedelstrom. A strong and able fisherman, Artur
is a fine swimmer and liked to dive from the cliffs into the sea
in his youth. He doesn't do it any more as he realises how profoundly
dangerous it was. Artur is more at home in the water than he is
on the land. Artur married Delia Thorn in spring 199, currently
he has four children and four grandchildren. Delia is currently
pregnant with his fifth child.
Njedelstrom, Barris (née Walker):
Thorn Njedelstrom's first cousin once removed by marriage. Barris
was born into the once-nomadic Walker family to parents Cavark and
Etna. She was six seasons of age when her parents adopted a half-orc.
Too young to be blinded by prejudice, she thinks of Nits as her
little brother. Striking rather than beautiful, Baris was nonetheless
married at an early age to Gillespie Njedelstrom. The pair were
wed in autumn 202 and since then Baris has produced two daughter,
Anna and Fey. Baris despairs at how under his mother's thumb Gillespie
has turned out. She is not happy in her marriage and cannot respect
her husband. It is rumoured she is refusing to admit Gillesepie
to her bed, which is why they only have two children.
Njedelstrom, Bartok: Nephew of
Thorn Njedelstrom. First child of Truss and Isla Njedelstrom, born
in Summer 202. Bartok takes his name very seriously and believes
he will grow up to be just like his great grandfather. Because of
this everyone should show him proper respect.
Njedelstrom, Bartok: Paternal
grandfather to Thorn Njedelstrom. Died of natural causes in the
winter of 201 LE aged 79 seasons. The eldest of three brothers,
and the only one to live into his forties, Bartok married Kvar Whiteheart
in Spring 187 LE, and produced five children: Reena, Konig, Danner,
Glovis and Bran. In life he was a dedicated fisherman. In death
he is an inspiration.
Njedelstrom, Bennet (née Fisher):
Thorn Njedelstrom's first cousin once removed by marriage. Born
in winter 200 Bennet is another attempt of the Fishers to unite
themselves with the Njedelstrom family. A shy girl, Bennet married
Pilm Njedelstrom early in autumn 203. She doesn't believe he is
responsible for what happened to Pilm and defends him with an ardour
that is in complete contrast to her quiet and mousy nature. The
pair have a single child, Samuel.
Njedelstrom, Bran: Paternal uncle
of Thorn Njedelstrom. The eldest child of Kvar and Bartok, Bran
was a sensitive soul who found the love of his life when he was
still in nappies. Bran and Elizabeath Weaver were inseperable and
the pair were married when summer of 191 LE when they were both
16 seasons of age. Tragically Elizabeth died two seasons later in
childbirth, and Bran never recovered. He lived the remainder of
his life on the periphery of Bear's Reach. Few could reach him except
his sister, Reena, who understood some of his pain. Bran didn't
live in the family home and slept rough on the edge of the forest.
He was found dead one cold morning in the winter of 202 LE.
Njedelstrom, Bundie: Nephew of
Thorn Njedelstrom. Youngest son of Raven and Ellis Njedelstrom born
in winter 202. Bundie suffers from the mistakes his parents made
raising Esther and Rex. The child has the most serious and strict
upbringing one could imagine. The family is waiting for him to snap.
Njedelstrom, Caleb: Nephew of
Thorn Njedelstrom. Second child of Twoshoes and May Njedelstrom,
born in autumn 200. In the short time he has been on the boats Caleb
has proved to be a talented fisherman and his father is very proud
of him. Caleb was very recently married (autumn 204) to Gina Weaver.
Njedelstrom, Celestine: Niece
of Thorn Njedelstrom. One half of the twins born to Gunwale and
Gertrude Njedelstrom in Autumn 202. Celestine and his sister Yaddagon
are inseperable. Spookily so.
Njedelstrom, Chillock: First
cousin to Thorn Njedelstrom. Chillock was the name given posthumously
to the baby of Bran and Elizabeth Njedelstrom that died in childbirth
in winter 191. The birth also claimed the life of his mother and
the sanity of his father.
Njedelstrom, Clara (née Smith):
Thorn Njedelstrom's first cousin by marriage. Clara grew up in the
heat and grime of the town forge, and was less than impress to swap
it for the smell and grease of the fishing life when she married
Mulch Njedelstrom in Summer 198. The 14 season old Clara never really
accepted her new life and, although she gave Mulch three sons (Gillespie,
Turlough and Henry), she can seldom be found around the Njedelstrom
homestead. Rumour has it Clara has been making the simple Mulch
a cuckold all these years, but no-one has ever proved anything,
or knows with whom.
Njedelstrom, Danner: First cousin
once removed of Thorn Njedelstrom. Born in Summer 199 to Delia and
Artur Njedelstrom and named after his heroic grandfather, Danner
had a lot of live up to. A fishermen because he feels he should
rather than because he wants to, Danner can see his entire life
stretching out before him and it depresses him. A closet alcoholic
drinking to forget his misery, Danner is slowly slipping away from
the rest of the family. He married Rose Craftwright in Autumn 203
(again because he thought he should). He has two children.
Njedelstrom, Danner: Paternal
uncle of Thorn Njedelstrom. The middle child of Bartok and Kvar,
Danner was born in the winter of 188. He married Elsa Dyer in Summer
193. The pair had two sons , Mulch and Artur, who grew up to be
fishermen like their father. Tragedy struck in the long hot summer
of 202 LE, when the norht wing of the Njedelstrom hom burned down.
Everyone escaped except the crippled Elsa. Danner rushed back into
save her but both were killed.
Njedelstrom, Delia (née Thorn):
Thorn Njedelstrom's first cousin by marriage. One of the last members
of the village to carry the prestigious Thorn name. Daughter of
Mycroft and Kara Thorn, she was born in Spring 195. In her youth
she was arrogant and rather conceited, but she has mellowed in her
age. She married Artus Njedelstrom in spring 199 and has produced
four children. She deeply regrets the loss of her family name, but
can see no way that it can restored. She is currently pregnant with
her fifth child.
Njedelstrom, Dina: Niece of Thorn
Njedelstrom. The youngest child of Twoshoes and May Njedelstrom,
born in Summer 203.
Njedelstrom, Edie: Niece of Thorn
Njedelstrom. Third child of Truss and Isla Njedelstrom, born in
spring 203. She is currently obsessed with being a cook.
Njedelstrom, Elizabeth (née Weaver):
Thorn Njedelstrom's paternal aunt by marriage. Elizabeth was born
into the Weaver family and married her childhood sweeheart, Bran
when she was sixteen. She died two seasons later, in winter 191,
giving birth to her child, Chillock. The of both wife and son was
too much for Bran.
Njedelstrom, Ellis (née Weaver):
Sister-in-law of Thorn Njedelstrom. Ellis was born in Spring 196
into the Weaver family, and moved into the Njedelstrom homestead
when she married Raven in winter 199. Ellis is a remarkably pious
individual dedicated to all the moon gods but particularly Sharrash.
It is widely believed in the Njedelstrom family that she was the
one who pushed her husband into the priesthood. However, these days
Raven seems almost as fanatic as she is. Ellis has three children:
Hubert, Garnir and Dina.
Njedelstrom, Elsa (née Dyer):
Thorn Njedelstrom's paternal aunt by marriage. Born into the Dyer
family in winter 189. In her early years Elsa was inseperable from
her sister, Gail. Elsa married Danner Njedelstrom in summer 193,
and her sister followed suit the following year. After the birth
of Elsa's unnaturally large second son, Artur, in Spring 193 Elsa
had problems walking. Within ten seasons she was crippled and was
attended to by other members of the family. When the north wing
of the Njedelstrom home burned down in summer 202, Elsa was trapped.
Danner tried to rescue her but both were killed.
Njedelstrom, Enid (née Brewer):
Thorn Njedelstrom's first cousin once remove by marriage and the
sister of Krais Brewer. Born in the winter of 199, to Tarn and Salia
Brewer. Enid loves her family very much and turns a blind eye to
Tarn's dodgy dealings. Enid was pleased to leave her family and
marry Kelsar in autumn 203 because she was very much in love (and
very pregnant). With the birth of Gorm later that month she could
not have been happier. However, all that ended when Kelsar became
a bitter cripple. She doesn't feel as though she knows her husband
any more. In many respects he is not the man she married. Krais
is protective of Enid but she maintains that despite his anger and
mood-swings Kelsar has never harmed her.
Njedelstrom, Fey: First cousin
twice removed of Thorn Njedelstrom. Born in Autumn 202, Fey is the
elder child of Gillespie and Baris Njedelstrom. She is an extremely
introverted girl who seems to live in a little world all her own.
She plays with imaginary friends and is continually muttering to
herself. Suffice to say that people consider her quite strange and
she is ostracised from the other children in Bear's Reach.
Njedelstrom, Flower: Elder brother
of Thorn Njedelstrom. Fifth child of Konig and Gail Njedelstrom,
born in winter 197. Growing up with a name like "Flower"
makes a man tough, and Flower is no exception. A powerfully built
man, quick to anger but quicker to forgive, he is a raucous drinker,
a bad singer and a good friend. Reliable in a crisis and the sort
of man you want to have with you in a fight. Flower married his
childhood sweetheart Marie Craftwright in autumn 203, and they have
two sons Thomas and Steven.
Njedelstrom, Frances (née Miller):
Thorn Njedelstrom's niece by marriage. Frances was born into the
Miller family in spring 200. A responsible yourng girl with little
aspirations in life except to be a mother, she was happy to marry.
Hubert Njedelstrom in winter 203. She has two children: Gilderoy
and Paulette and is pregnant with a third.
Njedelstrom, Gail (née Dyer):
Mother of Thorn Njedelstrom, and dutiful wife to Konig. Born into
the Dyer family in Autumn 190 she married Konig in the summer of
194 LE - the second of two sisters to marry into the family (the
first being Elsa the preceding year). At 57 seasons, and after eight
hardy son, she realises that her child-bearing days are behind her,
but Gail takes a great interest in her grandchildren, grand nieces
and grand nephews. She is worried by her husband's lack of marbles
and seeks to keep him off the boats, thusfar to no avail. She is
very close to her sister-in-law, Reena.
Njedelstrom, Garnir: Nephew of
Thorn Njedelstrom. Third son of Twoshoes and May Njedelstrom, born
in Spring 202. Garnir is a gentle boy with a great affinity for
small furry animals. He has grown quite close to his second cousin
Gaynor Weaver. Summoned Thorn and his friends to see Kvar on 37
Chillbone, after the disappearance of Rod.
Njedelstrom, Gertrude (née Brewer):
Sister-in-law of Thorn Njedelstrom and second cousin of Krais Brewer.
The only child of Jacob and Zalina Brewer, born in Summer 198. She
was ophaned at an early age and raised by Sancho and Ellen Farmer.
Gertrude fell into a barrel of fortified potato wine when she was
three seasons of age, and was never the same. It has been suggested
that the alcohol permanently addled her mind, and certainly she
seems to life life almost permanently ebriated. She has no sense
of balance and occassionally punctuates her speech with with whistles
and pings. She married Gunwale Njedelstrom in autumn 202 and tolerates
what she calls her "husband's eccentricities". She gave
birth to twins Yaddagon and Celestine two years ago, but shows no
desire to have more children.
Njedelstrom, Gilderoy: Grand-nephew
of Thorn Njedelstrom. Eldest child of Hubert and Frances Njedelstrom,
born in Spring 204.
Njedelstrom, Gillen: First cousin
twice removed of Thorn Njedelstrom. Born in summer 204, Gillen is
the unexpected product of the marriage between Turlough Njedelstrom
and Ida Fisher.
Njedelstrom, Gillespie: First
cousin once removed of Thorn Njedelstrom. Gillespie was the first
child of Mulch and Clara Njedelstrom, and was born in the Autumn
of 198 LE. He married Baris Walker in autumn 202, and has two daughters.
Gillespie is fiercely devoted to his mother, and considers the terrible
rumours about her to be utterly scurrilous. His image as a "mother's
boy" does not endear him to his wife. Gillespie works on the
fishing boats with the rest of the family.
Njedelstrom, Gina (née Weaver):
Thorn Njedelstrom's niece by marriage. Gina was born into the Weaver
family in autumn 200. A generally amiable girl, Gina married married
Caleb Njedelstrom in autumn 204.
Njedelstrom, Glovis: Paternal
uncle to Thorn Njedelstrom. Glovis was second child of Bartok and
Kvar, and was born in the summer of 188 LE. Of all the sons of,
Glovis was the one most like his father. Fishing was in his blood,
and he spent more time on the boats than he did on dry land. It
was unsurprising that his wife also had a love for the sea. He married
the older Katherine Fisher in winter 191 and produced three daughters,
two of which survived into adulthood. Glovis was bitten by a poisonous
fish of unknown origin in summer 199 and died days later.
Njedelstrom, Gorm: First cousin
twice removed of Thorn Njedelstrom and nephew to Krais Brewer. Only
son of Kelsar and Enid Njedelstrom. Gorm was born in autumn 203.
Njedelstrom, Gul: One of the
thirteen companions of Scarman Thorn who came to Bear's Reach in
38 LE. A warrior of great strength and compassion.
Njedelstrom, Gunwale: Elder brother
of Thorn Njedelstrom. The fourth of the eight brothers born to Konig
and Gail Jedelstrom. Born in Spring 197, Gunwale was always very
close to his brother Truss and fascinated by Truss's love of history.
However, Gunwale considered the history of the Njedelstrom family
to be rather dull and trivial. He wanted to know what was happening
beyond Bear's Reach - to discover what was happening in the real
world. Obviously all the information Gunwale has is now terrible
out of date, but he is still considered something of a mine of information
about historical occurances. It has even been known for the Chronicler
to come to him for information. Gunwale married Gertrude Brewer
in autumn 202. They had twins that Gunwale insisted were named Yaddagon
and Celestine.
Njedelstrom, Halbad: Nephew of
Thorn Njedelstrom. Second child of Truss and Isla Njedelstrom, born
in winter 202. Extremely tall for his age and already bored with
life on dry land.
Njedelstrom, Halbad: Paternal
great-uncle to Thorn Njedelstrom. Died with his brother, Joseph,
and his nephews Mulgen and Took in a tragic fishing accident in
winter 192 LE. He was thirty-eight seasons of age. He was suvived
by his his other brother, Bartok and wife, Rose. He had no children.
Njedelstrom, Henry: First cousin
once removed of Thorn Njedelstrom. Born in Autumn 200, Henry is
the youngest child of Mulch and Clara. Henry seems to be almost
the exact copy of his father. He is equally as broad, as strong
and as stupid. They differ only in the direction of their lives.
Mulch is a born fisherman, but Henry prefers the company of ladies
and in the last few seasons has grown into a notorious heart-breaker.
No-one has yet consented to marry him.
Njedelstrom, Hubert: Nephew of
Thorn Njedelstrom. Eldest son of Twoshoes and May Njedelstrom, born
in Autumn 199. Hubert is a solid and dependable although he has
a reputation of being a little dull. However, he is cursed with
a overwhelming sense of responsibility to his family and his fellow
man. He married Frances Miller in winter 203. and the pair have
two children: Gilderoy and Paulette. She is pregnant again.
Njedelstrom, Ida (née Fisher):
Thorn Njedelstrom's first cousin once removed by marriage. Ida was
born in Autumn 198 and it was long thought she would never marry
and grow up to be an old maid. Standing over six feet in height
and extremely fat, Ida is not picture of the ideal partner. Following
the family tradition, her father the water priest Curran, and Mulch
Njedelstrom arranged her marriage to Turlough in Spring 204. Turlough
was six seasons Ida's junior and needed a steady hand to cure him
of his delinquent ways. The indomitable Ida certainly did that.
In Summer 204 she gave birth to a baby boy named Gillem of whom
she is fiercely protective.
Njedelstrom, Isla (née Cooper):
Sister-in-law of Thorn Njedelstrom. Born in autumn 197 into the
Cooper family, Isla found an intense dislike for practical work.
Her marriage ot Truss Njedelstrom in spring 202 did not fill her
with confidence as she was sure she would hate life as a fisherman's
wife. However, she discovered a love for Truss's hobby of family
history and is very happy to aid him in this pursuit. Truss taught
her how to paint and she now surpasses his skills. Isla and Truss
have three children: Bartok, Halbad and Edie. She is also pregnant
with their fourth child.
Njedelstrom, Joseph: Paternal
great-uncle to Thorn Njedelstrom. Died with his brother, Halbad,
and his sons Mulgen and Took in a tragic fishing accident in winter
192 LE. He was forty seasons of age. He was suvived by his wife,
Adelia, his daughter Celia and his other brother, Bartok.
Njedelstrom, Katherine (née Fisher):
Thorn Njedelstrom's paternal aunt by marriage. Katherine was born
into the Fisher family in Bear's Reach in Winter 187. In winter
191 she was married to Glovis Njedelstrom, this was partially her
choice and partially part of a continuing plot by her father to
unite the two fishing families. She moved into the Njedelstrom homestead
and was generally unhappy that her new life as wife and mother precluded
her travelling on the boats. She had three daughters with Glovis:
Olna (who died when she was eight), Lily and Elm. Katherine was
widowed in summer 199 when Glovis was bitten by poisonous fish,
and she died from natural causes at the age of 67 in Autumn 204.
Njedelstrom, Kelsar: First cousin
once removed of Thorn Njedelstrom and brother-in-law of Krais Brewer.
Second child of Artur and Delia Njedelstrom, born in the winter
of 199. Kelsar was a very atheltic and spry until he broke his foot
after a nasty fall while racing his brother Pilm in the summer of
204. Almost two seasons later he still cannot walk properly and
has had to stop going to sea and now spends his time mending nets.
He is bitter about this, and blames Pilm whom he says pushed him.
Pilm denies this. Kelsar was married to Enid Brewer in autumn 203.
They currently have one child, a boy called Gorm. Their marriage
is in jeopardly and Kelsar is increasingly moody and violent. Spotted
the drifting vessel Demeter on 42 Chillbone 204 and summoned Thorn
and his companions to help him reach it. Kelsar managed to obtain
the vessel and shared in the spoils.
Njedelstrom, Konig: Father of
Thorn Njedelstrom. Born in winter 189 LE to Kvar and Bartok, Konig
was the youngest of their five children. Now, at 60 seasons of age
he is getting long in the tooth himself, and truth be told he is
getting a bit senile. As the only surviving son of the Njedelstrom
line, Konig is the de facto head of the family. He lives in their
rambling family home with his various children, nieces, nephews
and their families. Konig has a complete inability to remember names,
hence the prosaic titles he saddled his children with. He will even
describe people he has known for decades rather than name them.
Despite his mental draw-backs Konig is still an active man, and
still goes out on the fishing boats with his children, grandchildren
and great-grandchildren. He married his wife Gail Dyer in summer
194 and had eight children: Twoshoes, Raven, Gunwale, Truss, Flower,
Salmon, Thorn and Rod.
Njedelstrom, Kvar (née Whiteheart):
Paternal grandmother of Thorn Njedelstrom. She was born in the Autumn
of 183 LE into the Whiteheart clan - the family that seemed to produce
seers with alarming regularity every couple of generations. Kvar
is such a seer, although she was the last in the line of Whitehearts
and her marriage to Bartok in Spring 187 brought the talent into
the Njedelstrom family. At 85 seasons of age Kvar is now so infirm
that she cannot move. When she has to go places she goes by bathchair,
although she considers herself important enough that people should
come to her. As a woman she cannot sit on the Village Council and
this has always annoyed her, but it pleases her that councillors
often come to her for advice. Kvar manages this meetings with her
over-developed sense of theatre. Kvar had five children with Bartok:
Danner, Glovis, Bran, Reena and Konig. Only the latter two survive.
On 29 Chillbone, Kvar's prognosticating powers were proved true
when she instructed Thorn and his companions to hide a large amount
of wealth in the local mine (shortly before the family were assessed
for tax purposes). She was rather dismissive of Rod's adventures
in the Whittenwood until his disappearance of 37 Chillbone. Using
her powers to try and find him put her in a coma from which she
briefly recovered on 49 Chillbone, but she is still in a very bad
way.
Njedelstrom, Maisie: First cousin
once removed of Thorn Njedelstrom. The youngest child of Artur and
Delia Njedelstrom, born in winter 2000. Maisie was always an obstreperous
child, and has for many seasons determined that she will never marry.
This completely dismays her parents (particularly her mother). Maisie
has it into her head that she wants to leave Bear's Reach and become
a highway-woman. She wants to rob from the rich and keep it. Maisie
is wooed by Davenport Farmer who knows her outlook on matrimony
but loves a challenge.
Njedelstrom, Marie (née Craftwright):
Sister-in-law of Thorn Njedelstrom. Born in summer 199 she married
her first love, Flower Njedelstrom in autumn 203. Marie is a willowy
woman who looks as though she doesn't eat enough and that a strong
sneeze would kill her. This could not be further from the truth
as the woman seems to have the power to work without rest seemingly
indefinitely. She has a boundless energy and an enthusiasm for life
that is only matched by her husband. She has two sons: Thomas and
Steven.
Njedelstrom, May (née Walker):
Sister-in-law of Thorn Njedelstrom. Coquettish member of the Walker
family, and twin sister to Anna Walker (now Anna Dyer), May was
born back in the Autumn of 195. In her youth the beautiful May had
a never-ending line of suitors and kept them all guessing as to
which she would choose to marry. No-one was more surprised than
Twoshoes Njedelstrom when she picked him. They were married in Spring
199. May has mellowed a bit in her age, but Twoshoes still finds
himself jealous of the activities of his wife. The pair have three
children and two grandchildren.
Njedelstrom, Mulch: First cousin
to Thorn Njedelstrom. First son of Danner and Elsa Njedelstrom,
Mulch was born in Autumn 193. A physically imposing, if none-too-bright,
lad, Mulch shows great courage every time he goes fishing - he can't
swim and he's petrified of water. He married Clara Smith in Summer
198 LE and the pair have three children and three grandchildren.
Mulch was at sea when his mother and father were killed by fire,
and he blames himself for their deaths, even though it couldn't
possibly have been his fault.
Njedelstrom, Mulgen: First cousin
once removed of Thorn Njedelstrom. Youngest child of Jospeh and
Adelina Njedelstrom, perished aged 16 seasons in the fishing accident
that also claimed his father and brother, Took.
Njedelstrom, Olna: First cousin
of Thorn Njedelstrom. Olna was the first child of Glovis and Katherine
Njedelstrom, born in the spring of 192 LE. Olna was a capricious
child who never listened to anyone. At the age of 8 seasons (Spring
194) she was climbing the cliffs to the south of the town in search
of sea-bird eggs. She was seen falling into the sea, but her body
was never recovered.
Njedelstrom, Paulette: Grand-niece
of Thorn Njedelstrom. Youngest child of Hubert and Frances Njedelstrom,
born in Summer 204.
Njedelstrom, Pilm: First cousin
once removed of Thorn Njedelstrom. The youngest son of Artur and
Delia Njedelstrom, Pilm lived in the shadow of his two elder brothers
and wanted to emulate them. He particularly idolised Kelsar who
was always faster, stronger and more skilful than he was. During
the summer of 204 Pilm challenged Kelsar to a race, during which
Kelsar fell and crippled his foot. Kelsar blames Pilm for pushing
him, Pilm denies it. The truth may never come out. Pilm was married
early in the autumn of 204 to Bennet Fisher. The pair have a child
called Samuel.
Njedelstrom, Raven: Elder brother
of Thorn Njedelstrom. Raven was the second child born to Konig and
Gail Njedelstrom. Born in winter 194, Raven's lifelong love of the
sea manifested not in a career as a fisherman, but in the calling
of a priest. Raven apprenticed under Wavemaster Curren Fisher in
the Autumn of 203 LE and may one day take over from the priest.
This has upset the Fisher family in general as they see the priesthood
as just another thing the Njedelstroms are taking over. Raven was
married in winter 199 to Ellis Weaver; the pair have three children
and one grandchild. Raven is a unnaturally serious man with no sense
of humour. However, he still goes out on the boats, and uses his
powers to aid his family in their hunt.
Njedelstrom, Reena: Paternal
aunt of Thorn Njedelstrom. Born in the summer of 189 LE to parents
Bartok and Kvar, Reena was an extremely attractive girl. She was
promised to be married to Jackson Fisher in the Spring of 193, but
Jackson died that winter while out fishing. Reena never recovered
and never married. She has lived the life of the old maid ever since
and now at 62 seasons she is the oldest surviving child of Kvar.
She was particularly close to her brother, Bran, before he died.
Reena lives in the rambling Njedelstrom family home where she helps
her brother, Konig, and his wife Gail. Both Reena and Gail have
been trying to get the ageing Konig off the boats for many years
but to no avail.
Njedelstrom, Rex: Nephew of Thorn
Njedelstrom. Middle child of Raven and Ellis Njedelstrom, born in
Autumn 201. Rex has every intention of following his father into
the priesthood. This is not because he feels particularly pious,
but because he wants to work magic and drown his enemies! Rex is
a little megalomaniacal. His partents hope he will grow out of it.
Njedelstrom, Rod: Younger brother
of Thorn Njedelstrom. The youngest of Konig and Gail Njedelstrom's
eight sons, born in winter 201. Rod has always felt out of place
in a family that seems to have well defined roles for everyone apart
from him. Rod has taken to shirking his duties around the homestead
believing that in such a large family someone else will do them.
He spends the majority of his time alone walking and thinking. He
is very secretive about where he goes and what he does, and although
he is regularly beaten for absconding from the family home it doesn't
stop him doing it again. Rod has expressed very little enthusiasm
about the profession of fisherman. On 29 Coldsorrow 204, Rod was
caught entering the Whittenwood by his brother, Thorn. It was discovered
he was draping a evil tree in brightly coloured ribbons. Although
taken home and punished he continued his strange activities that
included keeping dead badgers in a box under his bed, hanging the
corpses of rabbits from the branches of trees and (most disturbingly)
hanging strips of badger-flesh from the ceiling of his room. It
was discovered that Rod was running with murderwraiths - a deadly
type of fey - and had been mimicking his behaviour. He was rescued
from their grasp by Thorn and his companions and the ranger, Rebecca
Salumeneh, but remains under their influence. He is currently locked
in his room in the Njedelstrom home.
Njedelstrom, Rose (née Craftwright):
Thorn Njedelstrom's first cousin once removed by marriage. Born
in spring 200, Rose was keen to leave the Craftwright family and
jumped at the chance of marrying Danner Njedelstrom. She soon realised
her mistake, as Danner didn't really want to get married, or have
children, or be a fisherman. She cares for Danner and tries to help
him toward a direction in life that he would enjoy but Danner's
drinking makes this extremely difficult. Recently, she has taken
to ignoring her husband and lavishing all her attention on her children,
Thomas and Deanna.
Njedelstrom, Rose (née Thorn):
Paternal great-aunt of Thorn Njedlstrom. Wife of Halbad Njedelstrom,
but was barren and could not produce children. She was widowed in
winter 192 LE and died in summer 197 LE. Rose was eldest child of
the infamous Dorman Thorn and sister of Aelius, Marcus, Lucius and
Galen.
Njedelstrom, Salmon: Elder brother
of Thorn Njedelstrom. Salmon was born in Spring 199 and is the sixth
son of Konig and Gail Njedelstrom. Salmon has received the gift
of the Sight from his grandmother Kvar. When he dreams he can see
snatches of future times and far away places - things that may happen,
or things that have already happeneed that he has no control over.
He has no control over this power as yet, and is unwilling to accept
that it will one day take him away from his first love: the sea.
He is therefore trying to build a different life and accepted the
proposal made by Lorik Craftwright on 36 Chillbone, that he should
marry Lorik's daughter, Emmaelia. Emmaelia agreed and the two plan
to be married in the Spring. After Kvar's collapse of 37 Chillbone,
Salmon's visions are becoming more intense. However, the happiness
he feels at his impending marriage is reducing their effectiveness.
Njedelstrom, Samuel: First cousin
twice removed of Thorn Njedelstrom. The son of Pilm and Bennet Njedelstrom,
Samuel was late in autumn 203..
Njedelstrom, Steven: Nephew of
Thorn Njedelstrom. Second child of Flower and Marie Njedelstrom,
born in Winter 203.
Njedelstrom, Thomas: Nephew of
Thorn Njedelstrom. First child of Flower and Marie Njedelstrom,
born in Summer 203.
Njedelstrom, Thorn: Second youngest
of the eight sons of Konig and Gail Njedelstrom. Thorn is desperate
to get to sea but he remains little more than a glorified housewife.

Character Spotlight for more informaiton.
Njedelstrom, Took: First cousin
once removed of Thorn Njedelstrom. Middle child of Jospeh and Adelina
Njedelstrom, perished aged 20 seasons in the fishing accident that
also claimed his father and brother, Mulgen
Njedelstrom, Truss: Elder brother
of Thorn Njedelstrom. The third of the eight brothers born to Konig
and Gail Njedelstrom. Truss was born in autumn 196 and from an early
age he took an active interest in the Njedelstrom family history.
He is the family historian and good friends with the Chronicler
[name!] He keeps detailed records of family births and deaths and
paints vivid scenes and his interpretation of what he believes long
dead family members would have looked like. He is particularly enamoured
of his grandfather Bartok and is never short of a tale about him.
He married Isla Cooper in spring 202 and has three children. He
named the two boys (Bartok and Halbad) after dead relations, the
third child was named by her mother and is called Edie.
Njedelstrom, Turlough: First
cousin once removed of Thorn Njedelstrom. Turlough is the second
and middle child of Mulch and Clara and was born in Spring 200.
An inhumanly thin and spiteful boy much of Turlough's youth was
spent being cruel to small animals indulging in petty theft from
various family members. Turlough was unwillingly married in Spring
204 to Ida Fisher - on the understanding that the indomitable Ida
would "sort him out." Ida seems to have done just this,
as Turlough is absolutely terrified of her, and now spends as much
time as possible working on the boats from far shore. Incomprehensibly,
Ida and Turlough have son called Gillen.
Njedelstrom, Twoshoes: Eldest
brother of Thorn Njedelstrom. The first of Konig and Gail's many
children, Twoshoes was born in Autumn 194. He rose above the debilitating
effects of his silly name and has become a respected member of the
community. Because of his father's rather odd habits and galloping
senility, Twoshoes sometimes accompanies him to meetings of the
village council. Konig thinks he is showing his son the ropes, when
actually Twoshoes is trying to make the right decisions for his
family. Twoshoes is an impressive fisherman and harpooneer. Twoshoes
married May Walker in spring 199 after a protracted courtship that
lasted more than a season. He has four children and two grandchildren.
Njedelstrom, Yaddagon: Nephew
of Thorn Njedelstrom. One half of the twins born to Gunwale and
Gertrude Njedelstrom in Autumn 202. Yaddagon and his sister Celestine
are inseperable. Spookily so.
Njedestrom, Deanna: First cousin
twice removed of Thorn Njedelstrom. Second child of Danner and Rose
Njedelstrom. Deanna was born in Spring 204. She is a very placid
child, wildly curious at anything that moves.
Njedstrom, Thomas: First cousin
twice removed of Thorn Njedelstrom. First son of Danner and Ros
Njedelstrom, born in late Autumn 203. Thomas is just old enough
to notice all is not well with his parents.
Norandor: One of the larger continents
of the fractured land of Urova. Norandor is the most civilised part
of Urova. It is home to the great city of Uris, built on the ruins
of the old Hadradan capital of New Hadras. Norandor is a vast continent
unified under one ruler: the beneficent (if ailing) Yaddagon XIV.
Norgallias: One of the soldiers
in the retinue of Baron Tannith Swift who came to Bear's Reach on
30 Chillbone 204. He pursued Vitor Grushko into the Whittenwood
on 34 Chillbone. It is not known whether he still lives.
Normanden [duke]: Duke of the
Mardon Marshes. Based in Mardon.
North Timberlake Road: Norandan
road that goes from Timberlake to Northmeet.
North Uris Road: Norandan thoroughfare
that goes from Uris to Northmeet.
Northacre: Duchy of Norandor
ruled from Northmeet by Duke Colharn.
Northmeet: Norandan town of 7000
souls and base of the Duke Colharn. Northmeet has been made propserous
by a near-by iron mine.
Nosuch: Gnome with extraordinarily
long nasal hair and an inability to wash himself. Nosuch joined
Narramac's quest of Brightday 204 and was teamed with Alexi, Alessandre,
Mortimer, Scintila and Jakil. He helped Mortimer steal water from
Iltilmus on 48th Brightday 204 and was almost killed for his trouble.
Nosuch remains a close companion of Alessandre and Mortimer.
