Macinarri, Zendell: Watcher,
and author of the Discourse on Undeath that lead to the expulsion
of the Church of the Unbeating Heart from the Covenant in 32 LE.
Macinarri was murdered the following year, probably by members of
that church.
Maeve: Prostitute employed at
The Spinning Top in Kelrin as the part of the Trial of Temptation
for monks of the Order of the Seventh Moon. She, Yvette and Sabine
broke Sanjay like a dry twig on 15 Heathaze 204, but was unable
to coerce Raza to succomb to their charms.
Magen [abbot]: The current Father
Abbot of the Order Dark Moon. He proved to be an oddly reasonable
man considering his close association to Raza de Luna.
Magic Weaver: Anyone who is capable
of using the Weave to create a magic effect. Examples of magic-users
include wizards, sorcerers, bards, druids, clerics and psions.
Makers: An ancient sect of the
church of Moradin who conspired with elvish magic in ages past to
create the most powerful of magical artefacts.
Maldomoor: Human land on the
western coast of Urova. Maldomoor is inhabitated by a mysterious
people known as the Maldomoori. Maldomoor did not fall to the Hadradans
like the rest of the continent, although why this was the case is
unclear. Much of the land around Maldomoor is unknown and unexplored.
Most of the inhabitants of the eastern coast haven't got a clue
what's out there.
Malep: Second agent sent by Lucien
to seek out O'Keef. He was noted as missing on the 36th Suntask
204.
Malificents: Servants of The
Enemy who hold true to his teaching even today and wait for his
return. They are allegedly everywhere, although in Norandor they
have become little more than bogey-men used to scare small children.
They are real, as has been proved several times of late. Malificents
seemed to be behind the murder of Ulish Van Caspan, and Archdruid
Tular was most certainly a Malificent.
Malkor, Aryas (Captain): Head
of the force that accompanied Baron Swift to Bear's Reach in Chillbone
204. Malkor is a ruthless and mean-spirited individual who rules
his men through fear rather than respect. It is rumoured that he
was once a member of the Daggers of Norandor, and is an extremely
proficient swordsman. It was the baron's intention to leave Malkor
as the squire of Bear's Reach until a permanent figure can be found.
After the baron's muder on 32 Chillbone, Malkor headed the investigation
and arrested Tarn Brewer. He later pursued the true killer, Vitor
Grushko, into the Whittenwood and has not been seen since.
Malmarc: Leader of a dwarven
company of warriors that saved the Chosen of Narramac and their
allies from a goblin horde on 19th Midsummer 204.
Malsimar: Hadradan general who
led a large force into Eldagaire many years ago. He was bested by
the druid Voldolphus and a large company of illithids in perhaps
the most bizarre alliance in history.
Mannell Falls: An impressive
waterfall formed when the tributaris of the River Running cascade
down the side of White Bear Peak, forming the a large pool at its
base. It was here that Morris Forester conducted a purification
ritual on the remains of Rellick.
Mannenites: Ebony-skinned natives
of the southern world that attacked the Hadradan Empire in 16 PL,
leaving it a smoking ruin of its former self by 14 PL.
Mardeish, Fulton: Guardsman and
part of the city militia of Sorgar.
Mardit, Luther: Head of the Church
of Contention in Village of the Eighteen Churches.
Mardon Marshes [1]: Swamp that
stretches out from the town of Mardon toward the eastern sea. The
Mark flows into the Mardon Marshes.
Mardon Marshes [2]: In addition
to the swamp itself, this is also the name given to a duchy of Norandor
ruled from Mardon by Duke Normanden.
Mardon: Norandan town.
Mark: Longest river in Norandor.
From the Cullbarran Peaks it flows south through the Wold to reach
the sea at three separate locations: Sorgar, Kannalas and Mardon
Marshes.

from Timberlake by Duke Ipso.
Marratet, Aldous: Justician priest
based at St Mathers in Sorgar.
Marris, Hester: Cleric of the
Church of Water, based at the Coral Palace in Sorgar.
Marsuk: A snow goblin who dwelt
with a large clan of his fellows in the foothills of the Cullbarren
Peaks. One morning many hundreds of trained worgs kept by the goblins,
turned on their masters. In the blood bath that followed, the only
goblin to survive was Mursak. He set off to avenge his people by
tracking down the last six worgs. It was on this mission he encountered
and received aid from Thorn Njedelstrom and his companions Krais,
Kaylas, Illyan, Nits and Arax. In return he helped guide them through
the forest, but fled when the fear of the murderwraiths overtook
him. He has not been seen since.
Marta: Cleric of the Church of
Water who runs the faith's second temple in the Village of the Eighteen
Churches.
Matisse: Cleric of the Church
of Water in Sorgar.
Maw of Io: Another dimension
said to be the holy resting place of the dragon god, Io. A portal
to the maw is said to exist in each of the nine temples constructed
by the Custodians of Concordance.
Maw of Walhoon: The largest of
the many chasms in the earth that characterise the Pits of Walhoon.
The maw is over 50 miles wide and is said to lead to the centre
of the planet.
Maynard, Julian [first flame]:
Mentor to Nicos Allumière and originally the first flame
of Scaldarnus, a church of fire located in the gutterhive of Uris.
Maynard is now quite old and his health is failing. Following the
destruction of Scaldarnus and abduction of Sesnic Lodrath, Maynard
became First Flame of the Grand Conflagration. He secretly worked
with Archnecrotain Varamil to bring about the end of the war. Following
the Enclave of Lollmeadow 204, his efforts seem to have borne fruit.
Maynard collapsed at the beginning of Midsummer, apparently from
exhaustion, and was replaced as First Flame by Fire-eye Vina Leikey.
This was seen by some, including Belarus Rothsman and Boudewijn
Berdgardt, as proof of a conspiracy in the Church of Fire. Maynard's
exact location is unknown. Boudewijn believes him dead.
McMee, Urdan: Noted tramp who
lives in the Gutterhive of Uris. Claims that Jhasik owes him money
for his blankets.
McMuir, Galvin: Tibraen representative
on the Council of Adventure.
Melabonn, Artur: Salmayan representative
on the Council of Adventure.
Melmac: Priest of the church
of Fortune's Favour in the Village. Roused from his breakfast on
45th Suntask 204 by Salamar Russ to reveal the malificent, Neeva.
Merban: One of the soldiers in the retinue of Baron Tannith
Swift who came to Bear's Reach on 30 Chillbone 204. With Pug, ordered
to roll the globe containing Tam to safety. The pair also carried
Tarn brewer to the gaol on 32 Chillbone when they were set upon
by Mab Brewer. Merban was kicked heavily in the privates by Krais
who was attempting to save his sister. Merban pursued Vitor Grushko
into the Whittenwood on 34 Chillbone. It is not known whether he
still lives.
Merry, Custar: Woodcutter from
the village of Garwood who discovered the signet ring of Xaldan
Reshen. He was taken by ghouls into the Wraith Haunt on 30th Scatterseed
204. He was not among the villagers rescued by the party (4) a week
later.
Merton: Father of Snorri and
Gertrude. A logger from Timberlake.
Mighty Scourge of All Which is Evil:
A dire wolverine and bonded mount of the dwarven paladin, Uthgar
Ungort.
Miller, Aishling (née Walker):
Born into the Walker family in Autumn 193, Aishling married Robin
Miller in Winter 197. She works in the great kitchen alongside her
mother-in-law, Fyana, but often has to help out with the lugging
of heavy sacks of flour. She has five children: Marie, Frances,
Mina, Elizabeth and Bergin.
Miller, Bergin: Youngest child
and only son of Robin and Aishling Miller. Born in Winter 200, Bergin
is the last of the Miller line and feels the pressure of finding
a wife and producing a male heir. On the whole, Bergin has hated
his life so far. With four older sisters, his childhood was hell,
but things have gone downhill since they all married and moved out
of the family home. Now Bergin does the work of three men - helping
his father and grandfather maintain the mill and his mother and
grandmother prepare the bread. He is also extremely slight for a
youth of his age and is often called upon to crawl between the large
cogs of the water mill to fix some problem such as remove a dead
possum. Bergin is convinced that he will be crushed or simply worked
to death long before he has a chance of finding a wife.
Miller, Eliza (née Smith):
Born into the Smith family in Autumn 183, Eliza married Palgrave
Miller in Autumn 188. She gave him three children: Beth, Merrisande
and Sheldon. She outlived her husband, dying in Spring 203 aged
seventy-eight seasons.
Miller, Fyana (née Weaver):
Born into the Weaver family in Autumn 189, Fyana married Sheldon
Miller in Autumn 193. Fyana works as a baker in the great kitchen
adjacent to the mill, but in her age the work is becoming a little
much for her (no-one mentions this to her face, of course). Fyana
has three children: Etna, Robin and Nadine.
Miller, Palgrave: Once patriarch
of the Miller family, born back in the Autumn of 184. Palgrave was
a master baker as well as a miller and the village lost a great
deal when he passed away. He married Eliza Smith in Autumn 188 and
produce three children: Beth, Merrisande and Sheldon. He died in
Spring 202 aged seventy seasons.
Miller, Robin: Son of Sheldon
and Fyana Miller, born in Autumn 193. Robin works in the water mill
alongside his father, but is conscious how shorthanded and the mill
is and worries about making the quota. Robin married Aishling Walker
in Winter 197 and has five children: Marie, Frances, Mina, Elizabeth
and Bergin.
Miller, Sheldon: Youngest born
and only male child of Palgrave and Eliza Miller. Sheldon is the
current patriarch of the Miller family and does his best to look
after the interests of his diminishing clan. In the absence of able-bodied
mael millers in the family (there are currently only two beside
himself) he has had to take on extra hands from outside the family
to help with the busy times. Sheldon married Fyana Weaver in Autumn
193. He had three children: Etna, Robin and Nadine.
Mínaris: A dark sorceror
who has recently joined forced with Galahyde the Black. The origins
of Mínaris are best left unknown, but there are many who
speculate that he is not of this world.
Mínosh: One of the six
principalities of Salmaynak. Ruled by Prince Eugene.
Minsc: Paladin of the Order of
the Shining Fist. Recently commissioned as an adventuring member
of the order Minsc was charged with the task of finding the mythical
Cross of Vítaeous. He joined Narramac's quest of Brightday
204 to gain the power he thought he would need to find the Cross.
He was saddled with Nicos, Elias, Ravenna, Raza and Arvan for companions,
but soon found his ethics and those of the rest of the party did
not mesh. After their activities at Osroth Manor on 6th Brightday
204, Minsc had the rest of the group arrested and thrown into the
dungeon of Northmeet Castle. He then left the group to pursue the
red dragon Furnice. A great battle took place with the dragon on
21st Suntask 204. Minsc was instrumental in the defeat of the beast,
although he is feared to have perished in the act.
Minton: Acolyte of the Church
of Fire. One of the few survivors of Scaldarnus when it was destroyed
by the Watchers on 11th Suntask 204. Worked as a gaoler in The Conflagration,
showed Nicos to the imprisoned Boudewijn on 24 Heathaze 204 and
had to pull the violent cleric off his arch-enemy before Boudewijn
was bludgeoned to death. Tried for Arvan's sword at the ceremony
on the Hill of Heroes on 25 Heathaze 204.
Minya [lady]: Dance partner of
Arvan Walker-in-Shadows at the ball of 14th Suntask 204. Her services
were provided by Chamberlain Alberdark.
Miralee: A lyrical name for a
hideous hag who has made herself rich bartering the organs of innocents
to demonic paymasters. She and her wagon traverse the Great Dark
and few bother her. Miralee is not one to cross, or even encounter
if you can avoid it. She will only trade with those she believes
more powerful than herself (otherwise she will kill them), and even
then she tries to cheat and never keeps her bargains. However, many
of the things she purveys cannot be obtained anywhere else, and
so she has a steady (if frightened) clientele.
Misgon: An apprentice wizard
who, at fourteen seasons, joined Narramac's grand quest in the summer
of 204. He was grouped with Drasha, Deerkor, Whisper, Kismo and
Josepp. He was left for dead by the group in the temple called Ashardon
on 40 Brightday 204. Only Drasha returned for him, feeling a great
sisterly affection for the boy. At the behest of the party (3) Misgon
remained at Ashardon with Drasha until the theft of the Heart of
Llysallian drove them both to Uris to seek the help of the Chosen.
Misgon has since become good friends of the Chosen of Narramac,
and when Drasha returned the Heart to Dralcarnus in Lollmeadow 204
he remained at the White Suite to catalogue Narramac's library.
On 25 Heathaze 204 he tried to take Arvan's Blade of Hope at the
Ceremony of the Sword and become one of the Chosen, but he failed.
Mission: A shelter for the sick
and dying in the Circle Slums. It is run by volunteers from the
Church of Life.
Mitchell, Mungus: Blacksmith
based in Uris. Owed money by Jhasik.
M'Kesh, Tobin: Warrior and member
of the Shadow of Mortis, based in Sorgar.
Mocab: A very young and inexperienced
ranger from Kerikal. Only seventeen seasons of age, Mocab idolised
Wulf and aspires to be like him.
Molly: A member of the Chosen
of Narramac's domestic staff. She is particularly responsible for
the well-being of Ravenna.
Molontov, Vistral [first flame]:
New First Flame of Infernus in the Village of the Eighteen Churches.
Vistral replaced Belerus Rothsman despite being a highly radical
neo-bombast. A contentious choice for the post, he was appointed
by Tarrashar himself. During the Enclave of Lollmeadow 203 it was
revealed that Vistral worked closely with Thaddeus Carvin of the
Church of Fortune's Favour to kill Ulish Van Caspan and start a
war between the Watchers and the Firestarters. Showing a yellow-streak
wider than he was, Vistral told the Enclave everything, and had
his sentence commuted from death to life imprisonment.
Moonchild: Another term of godspeaker.
Moot of Sorrows: Convocation
called in Stonebark when one of the members of the Alliance is dispute
with another.
Moot: The largest meeting of
the druidic order in each domain. Moots take place once per season
on the solstice or equinox. For a moot to be held on any other day
indicates a great trouble brewing for the Order. Normally only druids
of Accepted rank and higher may attend a moot.
Moradin: Head of the dwarvish
pantheon and god of creation, smithing, craftsmanship, war, protection,
metalcraft, stonework and engineering.
Morgan: Priest of Terranor from
the Church of the Land. Joined Narramac's grand quest in the Brightday
of 204. Teamed with Illtilmus, Chargek, Yargon, Toomor and Plensis.
Morittius: Head of the Justician
Faith in Village of the Eighteen Churches.
Mornaven I [king]: King of Norandor
from 108 LE to 111 LE.
Mornaven II [king]: King of Norandor
from 157 to 161 LE.
Morningstar, Ugluk: Notorious
half-orc representative of Kerikal who sits on the Council of Adventure.
Mortage: Rural province of the
Watchers on the Cusp of Oblivion ruled by a necrotain. A mortage
is made up of a number of parishes.
Mortician: In the faith of the
Watchers, the head of a parish.
Morticor: The head of the Watchers
on the Cusp of Oblivion in a particular nation. There are nine morticors
on Iourn, one for each of the human lands of Urova. One of the nine
morticors is raised up to the High Holy Witness of Doom. Morticors
are commonly known as high priests.
Mortimer: Wizard who joined Narramac's
grand quest of Brightday 204. Teamed with Alessandre, Alexi, Nosuch,
Scintila and Jhakil. He and Nosuch attempted to steal the required
water for the quest from Iltilmus. The intervention of the party
(3) stopped them from getting butchered. Mortimer is in love with
the bard, Alessandre, although she doesn't seem to have noticed.
Mortis: Moon god of death, time,
the past, archives, knowledge, funerals and old age. There are three
churches to Mortis in Urova: The Watchers on the Cusp of Oblivion
are the gods of death who officiate at funerals and prepare for
the passing to the next world; The Scriveners of Doom are the church
of knowledge; and the Church of the Unbeating Heart worship undead
in all its forms.
Mose, Wolden: Inhabitant of Northmeet
and canny shopper who bought Xaldan Reshen's signet ring for a song
and sold it to his family for a small fortune.
Mount Korvast: Highest mountain
in Norandor at 5000+ feet. Uros climbed this mountain in 1 LE to
summon thegods. Narramac currently seems to be living in it.
Mouser: Ageing grey cat resident
at the inn, The Great White Bear, in Bear's Reach. Mouser hasn't
caught a mouse or any other form of rodent in several seasons and
now spends most of his time sleeping and having his tummy tickled
by Mab Brewer. Mouser was magically interrogated by Illyan and Kaylas
on 33 Chillbone 204 but revealed nothing of any use.
Mulbraen, Rastin: One of the
thirteen companions of Scarman Thorn who came to Bear's Reach in
38 LE. A follower of the teachins of Zephyre.
Munro: High priest of the Church
of Earth in Norandor. Present at the Ceremony of the Sword on 25
heathaze 204.
Murderwraiths: An ancient fey
race not native to the world of Iourn. Murderwraiths move so quickly
they cannot be seen by mortal eyes. They have powers of telepathy
and healing, and also the ability to induce ungovernable fear in
their victims. Murderwraiths use this effect to hunt through dense
woodland, often killing their vicitms and then resurrecting them
so they can be hunted again. Sometimes a mortal may be invited to
join their hunt - the first step to becoming a murderwraith itself.
A group of murderwraiths are currently operating in the Whittenwood
near Bear's Reach and almost inducted Rod Njedelstrom into their
number. Fortunately they cannot leave ancient forest so the village
is safe, for now.
Mylann, Serecee: Head of the
Church of Fortune's Favour in the Village of the Eighteen Churches.
She replaced Thaddeus Carvin after he was found guilty of conspiracy
to murder Ulish Van Caspen. She formally took up the position and
the title after Carvin's execution on 48 Lollmeadow 204, although
she had actually been doing the job for some weeks.
