Lay preachers have no supernatural abilities and cannot cast spells. They are ordinary people who take on necessary roles in areas where there is no official clergy.

LE: Abbreviation for "Lunar Era". On the Urovan calendar the suffic LE after a year denotes that it took place after the coming of the gods.

Leikey, Vina: First Flame of the Grand Conflagration in Uris. Vina was originally one of the nine fire eyes, before accepting this post after the collapse of Julian Maynard. When a pyrus, Vina had an affair with Belerus Rothsman that he remembers fondly. Since then she has changed much, and is now a hawk-eyed and loyal servant of Tarrashar. Vina aided in the rehabilitation of the Bombastic, Wren, on 24th Heathaze 204, by allowing her to be purged of her conditioning by Lord Narramac. She remains a fire-eye despite her new position. This is highly unorthodox. The existence of more than nine fire eyes is expressively forbidden in the Covenant. Leikey aided Nicos Allumière rescue the mind of the Bombastic Wren (aka Rio), albeit unwilling, and was present at the Ceremony of the Sword on 25 Heathaze 204.

Lerren: Head priest of The Church of Life (Vítaeous). Based in Uris. Present at the Ceremony of the Sword on 25 Heathaze 204.

Leston, Joseph [baron]: The baron of Umbria until his death at the hands of Elias Raithborne on 22 Heathaze 204. Leston became baron in 196 LE when he was only 18 seasons. He remained single for five seasons before marrying Lady Rebecca Devries on 27 Stormtide 197, an advantageous marriage. She sadly died giving birth to Leston's son. The child, named Cormac, was very sickly and died in Suntask 197. Leston was distraught and did not want to marry again. Eventually he was persuaded by Count Ranulph Awlton, who was trying to marry off his youngest daughter, Drasha. Joseph and Drasha (who was barely 16 at this time) was married on 7 Baretwig 201. In life, Leston was an incredibly honourable and rigid man who had a highly developed sense of right and wrong. When he discovered Drasha was unable to bear children he did not cast out his wife and take another, even though it would mean that the line of Baron Lestons that had endured for 116 years would die with him. Leston was always immaculately groomed and wore a thin moustache; he had a great affinity for dogs and kept scores of wolf hounds at his manor and his town house in Uris. Some say he prefered dogs to people, but Drasha remembers him fondly. It was Leston's sense of right and wrong that led to his downfall. When he intercepted "inappropriate correspondence" between his wife and Elias Raithbourne in Lollmeadow 204, he challenged Elias to the Rite of Horann. On 22 Heathaze, Elias fought and killed Leston, inheriting his title and all his possessions (including Drasha).

Logen [abbot]: Logen was born in Salmaynak shortly after the Coming of the Moon Gods. He was employed as a scribe to an Hadradan lord. Logen's son was a godspeaker, born on the day that Uros died. After his son's death at the hands of clerics of Sharrash, Logen began to see a connection with his son's strange tattoos, the moons and the moon faiths. he concluded that the moon faiths feared godspeakers. After several years wandering the Karudites, Logen formed the Monastery of the Seventh Moon. The original purpose of which was to seek out godspeakers and learn how to use them against the moon faiths. That was in 7 LE. Since that time the order has evolved along different lines, to such a point that Logen's original philosophy (exemplified by the gnome, Zookie) is completely alien.

He currently resides there under the tutorage of Zarina Candalas. Lott: A hierophant druid who rumour has it travels into and out of the Great Dark, doing what good he can. When the he and his group caught up with the party (3) he offered to stand as advocate for the party at Colharn's court to try and clear them of their crimes.

Lucien: Head of staff at the White Suite, assigned by Alberdark to be personally responsible for the well-being on the Chosen of Narramac on 14 Suntask 204. Since then he has been so stunningly efficient at looking after their welfare, that many have invested him with pseudo-magical powers of foresight. The only time he failed to appear when called was on the afternoon of 23 Heathaze 204. Ravenna suspects that Lucien is far more than he appears, and that he is the head of some sort of government intelligence organisation.

Lupus [Brother]: Wandering monk who visited the court of Yaddagon XIV is Baretwig 199 LE.

Luther: One of the soldiers in the retinue of Baron Tannith Swift who came to Bear's Reach on 30 Chillbone 204. Lyar, Garmond: Thorn Njedelstrom's first cousin once removed by marriage. Garmond was born in Winter 198 and it is said he stopped growing when he was twelves seasons. Standing only 4'2" in his hiking boots Garmond is towered over by almost everyone in town. This is no disadvantage in his favourite hobby of spelunking. Garmond was married to the intimidating Trina Goodie in autumn 203.

Lyar, Jack: Second cousin once removed on Krais Brewer. Youngest son of Kross and Marie Lyar. Jack was born in Spring 203, but died four seasons later after suffeering from a terrible fever.

Lyar, Kross: Krais Brewer's second cousin by marriage. Born in Spring 197, Kross married Marie Goodie in Autumn 201. Endlessly cheerful to the point of social ineptitude, Kross is the father of two surviving children.

Lyar, Marblach: Only son of Vurso and Merrisande Lyar, and the last chance for Bear's Reach's least auspicious family name. Marblach married Verona Weaver in Summer 197, several months after the birth of their first child, Kross. He was not a will participant in his own wedding, but decided in the end that it was better than two broken legs. He went onto produce two more children (Garmond and Edna) and is now grandfather. Marblach is the oldest living Lyar, which entitles him to a seat on the village council. Occassionally he even turns up.

Lyar, Marie (née Goodie): Second cousin of Krais Brewer. Eldest child of Collette and Dirk Goodie, Marie was born in Winter 197. A delicate and sickly child she was not expected to live beyond infancy and she is still relatively infirm due to her host of childhood illnesses. She married Kross Lyar in Autumn 201 and surprised everyone by having three children. However, her youngest (Jack) passed away in Spring 204 and she has sworn not to have any more.

Lyar, Merrisande (née Miller): Born into the Miller family in Winter 187, Merrisande married Vurso Lyar in Autumn 192. She produced three children: Scarlett, Gretchen and Marblach. In life, Merrisande had a reputation as a vorpal-tongued harridan and passed on much of her pith and venom to her eldest daughter. Merrisande died in Autumn 203 much to the distress of Scarlett and no-one else.

Lyar, Murelle: Second cousin once removed on Krais Brewer. The middle child of Kross and Marie Lyar, born in Summer 202.

Lyar, Prathric: One of the thirteen companions of Scarman Thorn who came to Bear's Reach in 38 LE. An opportunist and general rogue.

Lyar, Trina (née Goodie): First cousin once removed of Thorn Njedelstrom. The seond child of Samson and Elm Goodie, born in Summer 199. Trina is a hard-working, barrelchested young thing with more muscles than your average cart horse. She was married to Garmond Lyar in autumn 203, but has yet to produce a child. This may be because she cannot have children, that Garmond can't, that Garmond is too scared to ask her or (as is the opinion of many children in town) that Trina eats babies.

Lyar, Verona (née Weaver): Born to Rufus and Belle Weaver in Spring 196, Verona is the twin sister of Magda Weaver (now Verona Fisher). Verona fell pregnant out of wedlock. The father was eventually found to be Marblach Lyar who was cornered by Verona's father, and made to marry her at the point of a pitchfork. Despite their less than auspicious beginnings Marblach and Verona don't get on too badly, and have even produced two more children: Garmond and Eda.

Lyar, Vurso: The old head of the Lyar clan, born in Summer 187. Vurso was the last hope of the Lyar name, and he played against type by rising to the challenge magnificently. He married Merrisande Miller in Autumn 192 and had three children: Scarlett, Gretchen and Marblach. Vurso died of old age and general idleness in Winter 201.

Lyonel [Sir]: Knight of Ishyar and Neverton.

Lysas: Landlady of the Weary Traveller inn in Village of the Eighteen Churches.
