Iourn Home > A to Z > K

Brother Kak: Cheerful half-orc and travelling monk from the Order of Infinite Tranquility. Guildsman Grossmor of Northmeet sent him, Salamar Russ, Jedidiah de Chesiré, Jass, Bronx and Blackjack to the Wraith Haunt in Scatterseed 204. Kak helped to liberated sixty woodsmen who were being held by ghouls and used his reward money to help them find new lives.

Kal: Friend of Alessandre the bard. Encounted by Elias in Gallworth.

Kaldor, Jina: Prostitute resident in the Village of the Eighteen Churches. Died of syphilis on 44th Suntask 204. Her body was interred in the House of Passing when her finger was sliced off by a carrion-eating demon servant of Karatath. The finger was later found in the room of the sorcerer, Jass.

Kalrakarn: Rich dwarven hold in Gunstadtan. Its dominions include Nimrill Bay.

Kannalas Road: Road in Norandor that runs from Kannalas to Timberlake via Buckmead and Neverton.

Kannalas: Southern city state ruled by Galahyde the Black and his dodgy friends. Kannalas no longer recognises Yaddagon as the legitimate king.

Karatath: Two thousand years ago he was an elf, and sat upon the White Council. He was the greatest of the Grey Princes and wielded a power that defied the gods. But that power was not enough. Karatath departed from his elven brethren and journeyed far to the south. For hundreds of years he hid himself in the Great Dark. He experimented with vile forces, he consorted with demons and he emerged utterly changed in body and spirit. Thus began the Great War against the Northern World. For a thousand years the forces of Elf and Man strived to defeat him. Karatath's unspeakable evil almost destroyed all there was until, at the eleventh hour, he was finally overcome. Defeated but not destroyed, the elves worked to use the power of the Great Dark against him, and created a prison in the centre of the Great Dark called the Aegis. Around the Great Dark they threw a massive magical wall called the Enceinte and there they left Karatath. The elves departed Iourn for the Greymere soon after, and over the seasons memories of the Great War dimmed and then were lost. Now Karatath is little more than a myth - a fictional demon whose name is conjured to frighten small children. "Eat your greens or Karatath will get you!" Most scholars believe that Karatath never existed, that he is an amalgan of a hundred different demons from a dozen cultures. But the select few still remember. The Hadradan scholar, Hieronymous Klazid was one; his historical works spoke of a great war and the imprisonment of Karatath, but he was labelled a crank. Narramac was another. After a thousand years the wards that hold Karatath fast in the Aegis are weakening, and before many more seasons pass the evil will rise again, more terrible than before. Investigations by both the Chosen of Narramac and Salamar Russ have discovered some measure of this truth. Karatath's name was revealed to be a name of considerable power, the very mention of it enough for Jass to be possessed by his spirit. When Arvan returned from his exile in the Great Dark he was able to confimr the truth, and the identity of Karatath. Karatath and 'The Enemy' spoken of by the elves is one and the same. Karatath is rising. His servants are flocking to him, and the Thirty are abroad. The end of days is coming.

Kard, Hieton: Hierophant and one of the three accursed druids who used their powers to defile the land. Kard was a madman who turned his back on the Order. In a mighty battle between Kard and dozens of his Circle he manages to defile the land in a quarter mile radius. The effects can still be seen in the Úngorn, and were seen by the Chosen of Narramac on 23rd Lollmeadow 204.

Karduche: An ancient figure from history whose appearance and role have become lost to time. Karduche is remembered however as being a great force for good. The "Blessing of Karduche" is often given by paladins.

Karundites: A small but dangerous mountain range in south-western tip of Norandor, bordering on the Straits of Contemplation. Raza's Monastery of the Seventh Moon is located in these mountains.

Katherine: Gorgeous and she knows it. Katherine is a ranger who patrols the far reaches of Kerikal righting wrongs with her charm as much as her sword-arm. She has very dark hair that she wears in a long ponytail that falls to her waist, and has dark, almost Hadradan, skin. She doesn't wear armour, saying that it hampers her movements. Katherine can come across as arrogant and a little scathing of others, although she would never abandon anyone. This was proved during Midsummer 204 when she fought alongside Wulf and the Chosen of Narramac in the Plains of Acheron.

Katya: Member of the Sensationalists in the Village of the Eighteen Churches. Conducted Brother Kak and the dead Mannacus to Erith Flowerchild on 48th Suntask 204.

Keening: The mournful singing performed by Watchers on the Cusp of Oblivion during a funeral ceremony.

Kelembor: Duchy of Norandor ruled from Jeston by Duke Lovax.

Kellis [duke]: Duke who rules the duchy of Balankath from Lartan Cross.

Kelrin: Town at the foot on the Karundite mountains, directly on the Norandon border with the Straits of Contemplation. Kelrin is the village used by the Monastery of the Seventh Moon for the second of its trials, where they employ the help of the local bar and brothel.

Kelton: Along with his mirror-twin, Rembrandt, Kelton is a sorcerer of highly unusual talent and skill. An arcanist of fairly impressive power in his own right, Kelton is truly formidable when he talents are combined with his brother's. Kelton and Rembrandt are known throughout Norandor as truly dangerous, and slightly mad indivduals. They are known to ally themselves with the Bombastic church. The exact nature and extent of their powers have never been measured, but they are seldom defeated. On 1 Lollmeader 204 they joined the Bombastic cell that invaded Caled Castle. They were driven off by the Chosen of Narramac. Their connection with the Bombastics apparently continues. Encountered again by Nicos on 22nd Heathaze 204 when he was in the company of Boudewijn Berdgardt. Kelton and his brother betryed Boundewijn and set up a duel between him and Nicos that ended with Boudewijn's incarceration by the Church of Fire.

Kemelicus: A duchy of Norandor ruled from Sorgar by Duke Devries (Iltillmus' father).

Kendennis, Jonah: A seller of fine horses based in Uris. Owed money by Jhasik.

Kendennis, Wisden: Co-founder of the Guild of Adventurers with Saramil Vyrn and Jasmin de Bauch. Wisden was a charismatic womaniser and consumate politician, but he never quite excised the daring from his soul. In 175 LE he left for Tibrai and an expedition to explore the Dragoncrown Mountains. He never returned.

Kenmey, Chajan: Owner of the largest bed-selling establishment in Norandor. Famous for it. Based in Uris, owed money by Jhasik.

Kerikal: Human country to the north of the Gunstadtan Hills. The people of Kerikal are made poor by the continual warring of chieftans and petty warlords. They are often prey to rampaging hordes of orcs.

Kesten [king]: King of Norandor from 112 LE to 119 LE.

Kine: Giant eagle from Kerikal that carried the unwilling Nicos from the Laughing Rock on 27th Midsummer 204.

King in Amethyst: Correct title for the current ruler of the Five Colour Kingdom. The king is always a member of one of the five noble families - houses Diamond, Amethyst, Sapphire, Ruby and Emerald - and takes the title accordingly.

Kismo: Hobbit and cleric from the Church of Fortune's Favour who joined Narramac's quest on 1st Brightday 204. He was allied with Deerkor, Whisper, Josepp, Kismo, Misgon and Drasha. He was killed by Elias Raithborne in the Maw of Io on 40th Brightday 204.

Kither: One of the soldiers in the retinue of Baron Tannith Swift who came to Bear's Reach on 30 Chillbone 204. He pursued Vitor Grushko into the Whittenwood on 34 Chillbone. It is not known whether he still lives.

Klarvis [king]: King of Norandor from 32 to 33 LE.

Knolland: Druidic initiate of the Kerikite Circle who fought the forces of evil in the Plains of Acheron during Midsummer 204.

Kontüf [king]: Red-bearded dwarven king of Underbarren. Avaricious and opportunistic, but dedicated to the destruction of all goblin kind. He is thought as the most approachable and humanised of the dwarven kings, although meeting him shows little evidence of this theory.

Kord: One of the soldiers in the retinue of Baron Tannith Swift who came to Bear's Reach on 30 Chillbone 204. He pursued Vitor Grushko into the Whittenwood on 34 Chillbone. It is not known whether he still lives.

Kordell [Sir]: Paladin commander of the Order of Roaring Lion based in the Village of the Eighteen Churches. He entered Narramac's quest of Brightday 204, although he was unsuccessful. On 49th Suntask he led a group of paladins into the precincts of the temple of Fortune's Favour to apprehend the Shadowdancers who murdered Ulish Van Caspan, but arrived too late.

Korvast Scrolls: The original religious writings of Uros, written been 1 and 3 LE. These eighty-seven scrolls lay down the foundations of worship for all the faiths that follow the Moon Gods. They are unarguably, the most important spritual texts to exist in Urova. One copy is held by the churches of Air, Earth, Fire, Water, Life and the Watchers. The other faiths have copies of these documents. The originals have been lost to time.

Korvis: Exiled noble from Salmaynak who arrived in Norandor in 199 LE. The reasons for Korvis' exile are widely unknown, but he has been obviously been building an army with the intention, or so he says, of returning to Salmaynak and seeing justice done. His relationship with Yaddagon XIV is cordial and Korvis has never done anything to threaten the king, although his territory keeps eating into the ducy of Westerland. Duke Gardoneaux is not happy about this, and some say he is preparing for war.

Kovar: Small village in northern Kerikal traditionally ruled by clerics of the Church of Fire. The current priest is the ageing Gilvan Goldenmane. Kovar continues to fight a war of attrition for forces from the Land of the League of Tooth and Claw. Kovar is perilously close to the Plains of Acheron and the dark nexus of defiling magic as was revealed on 25th Lollmeadow.

Krin, Ester: Purveyor of fine animals (both living and stuffed). Sold Jhasik several creatures during the summer of 204 but was not paid by him.Kristus [count]: Nobleman at the court of King Yaddagon XIV. Kristus is a charismatic, bearded lady's man. He is not shedding any light on the current feud between him and the chamberlain, Alberdark. He is, however, a known supporter of Galahyde the Black and friend to the disgraced Dai Caled. Kristus has been cleared of any charges relating from the events at Castle Caled on 1st Lollmeadow 204. He has since been working with Baron Linley Caled to remove Aylisha from the king's service. On 25 Heathaze 204 he tried (and failed) to obtain the Blade of Hope at the Ceremony of the Sword.

Krondor: Dwarf and advisor to King Kontüf or Underbarren. Krondor is wise, and well versed in the lore of goblin-kind and their beliefs.

K'Sminck: Paladin who visited the dwarves of Underbarron in the autumn of 203 before using his holy powers to root out the cause of the problems of the village of Weyland.

Kulhâzan: A dwarven clan-hold in the Gunstadtan Hills. It is located close to where Brack Ogrebane grew up. Kulhâzan is currently divided in those who support the King in Waiting, Abrinthor, and those who think he murdered his father, Evabold. Following the events of 27th Lollmeadow 204 it seems likely that Abrinthor will become king.

Kurst, Aldric: Mysterious and charismatic individual encountered by Brother Kak and Jass on 48th Suntask 204. Both came away with the impression that Kurst was a phenomenally powerful and evil individual with his own dark agenda, although he did not actually do anything to verfiy this assumption. Kurst did, however, play a role in replacing Jass's real eye with its evil twin on 1st Suntask 204. He said that he had some dark plans for Jass, but was canny enough not to say what they were. He left the Village of the Eighteen Churches on 48th Suntask with a cowed Neeva. He will undoubtedly be seen again.

Kybos: Cleric of the Scriveners of Doom based in Eurikas. During Heathaze 204, Kybos was continually badgered for information by monk, Raza de Luna. He is currently convalescing.

Kyron: One of the soldiers in the retinue of Baron Tannith Swift who came to Bear's Reach on 30 Chillbone 204. He pursued Vitor Grushko into the Whittenwood on 34 Chillbone. It is not known whether he still lives.
