FAQ

Iourn Home > A to Z > G

Galahyde the Black: A warlord and tyrant who believes himself to be the rightful ruler of Norandor. Galahyde's father was Nelmentes - the bastard brother of Yaddagon XIV - and Galahyde believes that this gives him claim enough on the throne. Recently, Galahyde has allied himself with the dark sorceror Míraris and has set up his own 'kingdom' to the far south-east of Norandor. He declared himself as rightful king of Norandor on 41 Dark Days 203, but has yet to follow his claim through with force of arms.

Galchen, Edoran: The name was first encountered as one of Jhasik's creditors who performed certain services for the jeweller during the spring and summer of 204. These services cost Jhasik over 3000 crowns, although he never paid. According to Jhasik, Galchen was hired several years ago by Ravenna's father Thorik, to find Alhanna when she disappeared for the first time. Jhasik said he was employing Galchen to find Ravenna's parents.

Gallomar Peaks: Treacherous coastal moutain range found in the south-eastern corner of Junos. Home to the Pits of Walhoon.

Gallworth: Small fishing village located about twenty miles north of Uris. The village is overlooked by the spectacular Old Utavran Inn.

Galvin: Head conspirator hired by one of the Shadowdancers to assassinate the party investigating the death of Ulish Van Caspan. Killed by Torgellias on the evening of 46th Suntask 204. Brother to Dort.

Galvus (Sir): Duke of the duchy of Úngoris; includes the towns of Western Cross and Windslá.

Galys: Norandan town. Glays was shut down by the Arcanum Incognita in 154 LE when a magical portal formed outside the town. The portal sends anyone who enters it to a random location somewhere in Norandor, although the church have hopes to bend it to their ends. The population of Galys were relocated to New Galys, but the new town dwindled in size.

Gant, Dellan: Merchant who hired Honour on as a cook on 14th Brightday 204 at the recommendation of his friend Sugin Fetspur. After much searching, Ravenna finally located this man on 42nd Suntask 204. Despite being as dodgy as a purple sovereign, Gant seemed a reasonable man and genuinely concerned about Honour's interests. He also had a healthy fear of a man called Fenton Pryde. Rented out a house for Jhasik in the summer of 204 but was never paid.

Gardoneaux (Duke): Duke and lord of Narrisham. Gardoneaux is a bit of an empire builder, and that may condemn the much of western Norandor to war.

Garl Glittergold: Head of the gnomish pantheon and god of protection, humour, gem-cutting, trickery, finesmithing and lapidary (stone and gem-cutting).

Garnir (Sir): One of the most famous and respected paladins in the Order of the Hawk. Joined Narramac's grand quest and teamed with fellow paladins Cardon, Zender, Lowron and Patricia as well as the cleric Inictious. Garnir one day hopes to be considered for membership of The Twelve and is certainly proficient enough. However, he is a very arrogant and prideful individual. There qualities may prevent him from ever fulfilling his dream. He resented the help of Minsc and his party (2) when the two groups encounted each other on 5th Brightday 204, but forced himself to do the right thing by them. When he encountered the party (3) again at the top of Mount Korvast on 49th Brightday 204 he wanted to arrest the group for their crimes. He was only stopped from doing so by Narramac paralysing him and teleporting him to the bottom of the mountain. Garnir was present at the final battle with Furnice on 21st Suntask 204 and was crippled by the dragon. He is current convalescing.

Garwood: A small logging community in northern Norandor, located terminally close to the Wraith Haunt. Attacked and all but destroyed by the undead in Scatterseed 204.

Gaspar: Watcher at the temple of Mortis in the Village of the Eighteen Churches. Gaspar allowed Ravenna to enter the temple on 1st Brightday 204 and make off with the finger of the dead Heena. Gaspar was one of the Watchers killed in the firestorm of 1st Suntask 204.

Gaston: Archwizard who has been at the court of Yaddagon XIV since 196 LE. Although never as powerful as his predecessor (and mentor), Narramac, Gaston is still a force to be reckoned with. A generally impatient and unlikeable man, Gaston nevertheless holds a position of great authority in Norandor. He first encountered the Chosen of Narramac on 14 Suntask 204, and took an immediate dislike to them (especially Raza). Gaston has an inferiority-complex where Narramac is concerned. He resents his mentor for leaving the court, and despises the fact that he is simply not the wizard that Narramac was. He feels that all his life he has lived in the old man's shadow, never quite rising to people's expectations of him. He volunteered to help the Chosen discover how their magic swords worked, if only to prove that there is no magic Narramac can wield that he could not comprehend. He failed in this endeavour. Gaston journeyed to Castle Caled (later Castle Dolanz) to aid Princess Celestine against the Bombastic Church, arriving just after the nick of time on 1 Lollmeadow 204. He was particularly bitter that the Chosen took to using him as their private wizard for scrying purposes and was glad to see the back of them when they left for Kerikal. In their absence he performed some scryings for Jhasik Tannesh, but was never paid for his time. He was not present when Narramac restored the true personality of Rio Shai'ir on 24 Heathaze 204, choosing to avoid Narramac. He did venture to the Hill of Heroes the following day. Gaston has been seen in close conference with the sorceress, Alys, and the Chosen suspect Gaston to be a supported of Galahyde the Black.

Gates of Perdition: Seven enormous gates set into the Enceinte shortly after its construction to allow the remains of Karatath's evil army to be more easily herded into the Great Dark. Anyone pass through a gate into the Great Dark, but it is impossible to travel the other way. The gates provide no exit from the Dark, anyone attempting suffers a most painful death.

Gathmoor: Large town in Umbria. Julian is the squire here.

Gellridl (King): King of Norandor from 52 to 56 LE.

Gent: Resident of the village of Weyland, and one of Tobias' deputies.

Glamor: Giant eagle from Kerikal that carried Arvan from the Laughing Rock on 27th Midsummer 204.

Glasswater: A large tarn around which the town of Timberlake is built.

Glipson (Archdruid): Archdruid of the Norandon Circle. Glipson is a large man with a fiery red beard. He was once a ranger and a bard, and has not lost his deep singing voice. Glipson fought valliantly in the battle against the shadow circle and Vaprissar on 25th Lollmeadow 204.

Gnome Ranger: Gnomish wilderness expert originally from Stonebark who guided a disparate party from Timberlake to Underbarron and back again during the last months of autumn in 203. His real name is Spugnor Thrang. He hides this for obvious reasons.

Godspeaker: An individual capable of talking directly to the moon gods. They are marked by a bizarre birthmark, usually found on their chest. Uros was a godspeaker, and each King of Norandor is considered to have his gift. No king of Norandor has ever displayed this power, and the eighteen churches fear godspeakers because they have the power to do what they can only dream of. A handful of godspeakers have appeared since the coming of the gods. Without exception they have been hunted and killed, either by the eigtheen churches or the mysterious Brotherhood of the Black Rose. The only, known, surviving godspeaker is Raza de Luna.

Goldenmane, Gilvan (First Flame): Ruler of the village of Kovar in northern Kerikal. He is a firm, intolerant man and implacable foe to the orc and goblinoid forces that beset his village. He is also the grandfather of Arvan Walker-in-Shadows. The Chosen and the Kerikite Circle approached Gilvan on 31st Midsummer 204 to persuade him against crushing the orc chieftain, Goretooth. It was left to Arvan, Ravenn and Wulf to talk Gilvan down. This was not an easy task.

Goldorro (High King): Supreme ruler of the dwarven land of Gunstandtan. He dwells in the Hall of the High King in Dunhâzan.

Goodie, Belanna (née Smith): Born in the Smith family in Winter 185 and married to Serben Goodie in Summer 192. She produced four children: Samson, Dirk, Rebecca and Melchior before dying in a freak bear attack in Summer 189, aged sixty-one seasons.

Goodie, Belroth: One of the thirteen companions of Scarman Thorn who came to Bear's Reach in 38 LE. Belroth was an adventurer and swordsman.

Goodie, Bernard: First cousin once removed to Thorn Njedelstrom. The first born son of Elm and Samson Goodie, Bernard was conceived out of wedlock in winter 198. Bernard is stunningly like father Samson and is possessed of the same lack of ambition and laissez-faire attitude to life. Fortunately he found a parent who viewed life as he does and married Marie Miller in Spring 204, shortly after the birth of their first child.

Goodie, Bill: Second cousin once removed on Krais Brewer. Bill is the younger child of Scorn and Jeena Goodie. He was born in Winter 203.

Goodie, Byron: Thorn Njedelstrom's nephew by marriage. Born into the Goodie family in Autumn 199. Byron eloped with the frustrated Esther Njedelstrom when she was fourteen seasons and he was seventeen. They lived out of wedlock in the Goodie home and even had a child before Esther insisted they married so she could heal the rift with her parents. Byron didn't much care either way and the pair tied the knot in Autumn 204.

Goodie, Collette (née Farmer): First cousin once removed of Krais Brewer. The youngest of Eloise and Nevrish Farmer's three children, Collette was born in Winter 193. In Autumn 197 she married Dirk Goodie and left the Farmer estate to live with his family. She has four children and five surviving grandchildren.

Goodie, Dirk: Krais Brewer's first couson once removed by marriage. Born into the Goodie family in Autumn 192, the rakishly handsome Dirk Goodie married Collette Farmer in Autumn 197. They have four children and five surviving grandchildren.

Goodie, Douglas: Second cousin of Krais Brewer. Douglas was the third and last child of Collette and Dirk Goodie. A man with a passion for pigs, Douglas is a master pig poker - perhaps the greatest in the last five generations. He is extremely proud about this and can't understand why no-one is impressed. He was born in Winter 198 and married his childhood sweeheart, Melissa Craftwright in Autumn 203. The pair did have a son, Yurgan, who died in Summer 204. The pair consider it too early to try again.

Goodie, Elm (née Njedelstron): First cousin of Thorn Njedelstrom. Elm is the middle child of Glovis and Katherine Njedelstrom. Four seasons the junior of her sister, Lily, Elm always lived in her shadow and mimicked what she did. It wasn't until she became pregnant by town ragamuffin Samson Goodie that she realised she was her own person and didn't need to imitate Lily. Also, she wasn't mad. Samson and Lily were hastily married in Winter 198 a few months before their first child (Bernard) was born. Elm has gone on to produce a further five children, although the youngest, Naeve, died last Winter.

Goodie, Esther (née Njedelstrom): Niece of Thorn Njedelstrom. Married Rex in spring 204. Eldest child of Raven and Ellis Njedelstrom, born in Summer 200. A rebellious child in her youth, she hated her strict up-bringed and eloped with Byron Goodie when she was fourteen seasons. The pair lived in the Goodie home out of wedlock and were disowned by the parents until Esther gave birth to her first son Felix in Summer 204. Thre then came a thawing between parents and child and Esther agreed to marry Byron at the beginning of the autumn in order to keep the peace.

Goodie, Felix: Grand-nephew of Thorn Njedelstrom. Son of Esther and Byron Goodie, born out of wedlock in Summer 204.

Goodie, Genevieve (née Dyer): Third child of Benjamin and Iona Dyer, born in Autumn 198. Genevieve was married to Melchior Goodie in Winter 202. They currently have two children (Cuthbert and Opal). A third child - Winstanley - was still born.

Goodie, Jeena (née Craftwright): Krais Brewer's second cousin by marriage. Born in Spring 199, she married Scorn Goodie in Spring 203. The pair have two children, Bill and Sarah.

Goodie, Judas: First cousin twice removed of Thorn Njedelstrom. Juas was born out side wedlock in Spring 204 but his parents, Bernard Goodie and Marie Miller soon married. Oddly, Judas has a slight moustache even through he is only three seasons.

Goodie, Marie (née Miller): Thorn Njedelstrom's first cousin once removed by marriage. Born in Autumn 199, Marie had a complete lack of interest in milling, and wanted to get out in the fresh air and work with her hands. She fell pregnant to Bernard Goodie, and gave birth to a son she named Judas. Bernard married her after the birth, which caused a bit of a scandal. She has since produced another boy, Nigellias. Marie works as a labourer and also looks after the children. She is also a remarkable gardener and has somehow found the time to decorate the Goodie home with numerous flowering plants.

Goodie, Martha: Daughter of Mary and Noah Goodie, born in Summer 204.

Goodie, Mary (née Craftwright): Second child of Kurt and Rebecca Craftwright, born in Spring 200. Mary was married to her first cousin Noah Goodie in Winter 203 and has produced two children: Jacob and Martha. Mary's love is swimming, and she can often be found playing in the streams and rivers around the village. During the winter months she gets crabby and very bored.

Goodie, Melchior: Born into the Goodie family in Spring 197. Melchior was always a bit of lady's man, but settled for Genevieve Dyer and married her Winter 202. He was extremely upset over losing his middle child, Winstanley, although he tried not to show it. He dotes on his other children, Cuthbert and Opal.

Goodie, Melissa (née Craftwright): Krais Brewer's second cousin by marriage. Married the pig-obsessed Douglas Goodie in Autumn 203. The pair did have a son, Yurgan, who died in Summer 204. Melissa is compeltely cut up about losing Yurgan and may never have more children.

Goodie, Naeve: First cousin once removed of Thorn Njedelstrom. The youngest child of Samson and Elm Goodie, born in Spring 200. Naeve was very pretty and looked to have her pick of husbands from the village. Sadly in the winter of 203, when she was only fourteen seasons of age, Naeve was attacked by a wolf on the edge of the village. Her injuries were too severe and she died two days later.

Goodie, Nigellias: First cousin twice removed of Thorn Njedelstrom. The second son of Bernard and Marie Goodie, born in autumn 204. Nigellias is very loud and generally quite irritating.

Goodie, Noah: Square-jawed member of the Goodie clan, born in Spring 199. He married his first cousin Mary Craftwright in Winter 203 in a scandal that rocked the village. He is currently employed in transporting the village waste to the Boar River. Noah has two children: Martha and Jacob.

Goodie, Ozymandias: An ancient and decrepit old man who despite his rheumatism and unconscious convulsions still believes himself to be something of a ladies' man. Born way back in the Autumn of 184, Ozymandias never married or gained a profession of any note. Instead he spent his life 'getting by' and romancing the local populace with his obvious charms. Technically the head of his family and deserving of a seat on the village council, Ozymandias has abandoned both. At the age of seventy-five seasons he decided it was time to "settle down" and moved into a small hovel with widower Ellen Craftwright (a woman twenty years his junior). They currently live in sin.

Goodie, Samson: Thorn Njedelstrom's first cousin by marriage. Born in summer 193 a happy-go-lucky member of the labouring Goodie family, Samson could never have been considered a good catch in the marriage stakes. However he is honest, amiable and possessed of a wicked sense of humour. That was enough to win the heart of Elm Njedelstrom. The pair were married shortly after their first child was conceived in winter 198. Samson continues to ply his trade in all manner of jobs around the town.

Goodie, Sarah: Second cousin once removed on Krais Brewer. Sarah is the elder child of Scorn and Jeena Goodie. She was born in Summer 203.

Goodie, Scorn: Second cousin of Krais Brewer. Middle child of Collette and Dirk Goodie, born in Summer 198. Scorn married Jeena Craftwright in Spring 203 and has two children: Bill and Sarah.

Goodie, Serben: Patriarch of the Goodie clan for many years before his death in Spring 200. Serben was born in Spring 185 and married Belanna Smith in Summer 192. Serben was the saviour of the Goodie name that was in danger of dying out when it not for him. He had four children over sixteen seasons: Samson, Dirk, Rebecca and Melchior.

Goodie, Simon: First cousin once removed of Thorn Njedelstrom. Simon is the third child of Samson and Elm Goodie and was born in the Autumn of 199. A tall and handsome man, Simon shows absolutely no inclination to marry and very little interest in women at all.

Goodie, Yurgan: Second cousin once remove of Krais Brewer. Yurgan was born to Melissa and Douglas Brewer in Autumn 203. He died in Summer 204 from a childhood illness.

Goretooth: Orc chieftan of the Plains of Acheron, an area of Kerikal that the Tooth and Claw armies have taken for their own. Even the Order fears to tread in the Plains. Goretooth was run off the Plains when the Malificent Tular and his forces seized control of his orcs. Goretooth and the few orcs he could cajole retreated to the Ebony Tower. On 31st Midsummer 204 he leapt at the chance of returning to the Plains to reclaim what he saw was rightfully his. After the victory, Goretooth gathered a vast army of orcs together and marched off to places unknown. Goretooth is the father of Arvan Walker-in-Shadows.

Gorm: Member of the Sensationalist church in the Village of the Eighteen Churches who bought the diviner Manacus's stash of drugs on 45 Suntask 204. It is quite possible that he also fancied the diviner.

Gower: Druidic initiate of the Kerikite Circle who fought the forces of evil in the Plains of Acheron during Midsummer 204.

Grand Conflagration: The high temple of the Church of Fire, located in Uris. The first flame was Sesnic Lodrath until his disappearance on 26 Suntask 204. Julian Maynard took over the role until his collapse at the beginning of Midsummer, when the Fire Eye, Vina Leikey, took on the job. The Grand Conflagration is an enormous building with wide steps leading up to a collonaded front. Tastefully wrought in black marble and obsidian, the temple was the scene of some of the fiercest fightist between Watchers and Firestarters during their short war.

Grand Druid: The highest druid in all of Iourn. The grand druid is the ruler of all the Circles, although in practice his is more of a diplomatic role. The current grand druidis Petrov Arcanius.

Grant of Manumission: Legal means by which a liege lord grants the status of a free man upon any serf that lives and works on his land.

Graykan: King of the trolls who lived around 15,800 PL. He was the father of Dralcarnus, the guardian of Ashardon.

Great Dark: A land of evil and corruption that stretches out for thousands of miles from Iourn's southern pole. The malevolence of this place permeates the land, the air, the inhabitants and the magical wave. It is in every way corrupting and debilitating, and does nothing but to promote the most vile wickedness and horror. The origins of this place are lost to time. Some say the demon-lord Karatath created this place, others that it was the Great Dark that spawned him and that this domain is far more ancient than life on Iourn. It may indeed be more ancient than Iourn itself. The malevolent influence of this place infects the lands around it so that all of the Southern World has been tainted by its presence. The malaise of the Great Dark extends all the way to Belsinor's Girdle where powerful forces prevent it from reaching any further. After the defeat of Karatath, his imprisonment and the end of the Great War, the Grey Princes attempted to hem in the Dark. They constructed a powerful magical wall around it called the Enceinte. Set into the Enceinte are the seven Gates of Perdition through which all undesirable evil elements were thrown after the war. The original prisoners and all their descendents are trapped within the Great Dark and cannot escape by any known means. Powerful magicks that breach dimensions can allow outsiders to enter and leave, although the Dark always leaves its mark upon them. To the people of the Northern World, the Great Dark (actually all lands below the Girdle) have come to be looked upon as Hell. All religions give a nod to its presence, including the moon faiths, but none appreciate the depths of the depravity found there. Millions unwillingly call this place their home from demons and devils to mortal men caught in the web.

Great Druid: The ruler of a Circle of the druidic order. The great druid rules the inner circle, and is usually the most respected and powerful figure in a given Circle.

Great Pact: An agreement between elves and dragons dating back many hundreds of thousands of years. When the elves successfully brokered a peace between the many races of dragons and ended the Dragon Wars, the elves and dragons made a pledge that would stand for all time. No dragon would ever harm an elf, and no elf would ever harm a dragon. Elves and dragons still live by the Great Pact in 204 LE.

Great Southern Road: Road in Norandor that runs from Wallon in the north to Mardon in the south. It goes via Windslá, Western Cross and Caldeer.

Great Test: Another term for The Great Trial.

Great Trial: In the Justician faith, the Great Trial is the term for a day of Judgement in which Terranor will descend from the Heavens and cast out all those who have been found wanting. In some minor Justician sects, the faithful are supposed to prepare themselves for the Great Trial by ritualistic flagellation, and nailing themselves to pieces of wood. Also known as The Great Test.

Great War: A terrible conflict fought in ages past in which Elves and Mankind were united against The Enemy (aka Karatath). The war lasted one thousand years and only ended with the imprisonment of The Enemy and the destruction of his armies.

Great Western Road: Norandan road from Uris to Sal'Cran and then on off the edge of the continent. It travels via Buckmead and Western Cross.

Great White Bear: The nature spirit worshipped by the barbarians who occupied the peninsular where the village of Bear's Reach now stands. It is also the name give to the tavern in Bear's Reach run by Tarn Brewer.

Grelka: A hideous sorceress of great power and greater malignity. Grelka sports human, hobgoblin and demonic blood in her veins. She rules the depraved and sordid city of Tharkis in the Great Dark, with an iron hand and her Legions of Horror.

Grey Princes: The foremost elven magic-weavers, and masters of Sonorism. The Grey Princes were responsible for the greatest achievements of elven magic including the creation of the Blades of Virtue, the restoration of Iourn's seas and the construction of the Enceinte and the Greymere.

Greymere: After the defeat of Karatath, the end of the Great War and the restoration of seas, the elves tired of life on Iourn. One thousand years ago, their greatest magic-weavers (The Grey Princes) created an entirely new world, parallel with Iourn yet utterly unreachable by non-elves. This world was called The Greymere. The elves entered the Greymere never to return and became figures of myth to the races they left behind. The topology of the Greymere is identical to Iourn, by it is an Iourn at the zenith of Sylvan perfection. There is no danger, no disease and no aware race other than the elves. Great cities and tree homes were constructed, and the elves began a blissful, insular existance. Some elves, such as members of the Brotherhood of the Black Rose, know the secret of opening portals between the Greymere and Iourn, however, only those who know the secret can step through such a portal, even if it is open. Because the Greymere and Iourn are completely parallel, the Greymere operates in much the same way as the Ethereal Plane - somene walking ten feet in the Greymere walks a corresponding ten feet on Iourn. Greymere portals cannot, therefore, be used to cover great distances on Iourn very quickly. To the greatest of human wizards and sages the very existance of the Greymere is a legend, and any steadfast belief in its existance leads to ridicule and a call to watch what you're smoking. However, it does exist. The Chosen of Narramac saw the elf, Andel, step into it on 40 Suntask 204.

Grimalkin: Individual mentioned on 12th Heathaze by the elf that tortured Raza in the Dreamheart. Grimalkin seemed to be her superior.

Grimm (Warmaster): Leader of the dwarven warband that arrived in Uris on 42nd Suntask 204 searching for murdered of King Evabold of Kulhazan. Grimm was dedicated to his task, and unhappy that Norandon bureaucracy delayed his removal of the alleged culprit, Thorangrim, back to Gunstadtan. Despite Ravenna's attempts to save her uncle's retainer Thorangrim and his warband eventually left on 1st Lollmeadow 204. He encountered the Chosen of Narramac several weeks later in Timberlake. Grimm likes Brack Ogrebane, and encouraged to dwarf to put his human companions behind him and take his rightful place as a dwarven clanchief. Despite revelations of Thorangrim's innocence, Grimm never doubted his prisoner's guilt. He is bondskin to King Evabold and is dedicated to serving the old king even after death. Grimm does not know of Abrinthor's involvement in Evabold's death, if he did then he would probably turn on the King in Waiting in an instant. Grimm remained in Kulhazan when the Chosen and Blaine headed north to Kerikal.

Grossmor: Excessively plump innkeeper of the Rounded Pheasent in Northmeet and representative of the Guild of Adventurers in the area. Sent Salamar Russ and party (4) on their mission to the Wraith Haunt of Scatterseed 204.

Grott: Half-orc hard-man and gentleman thug, hired by Jhasik to prevent the greatly sought after contents of his jewellers disappearing from the shelves. When he business empire crashed Jhasik had to let Grott go without paying him. Grott prefers to be paid. Ravenna paid the half-orc the money he was owed on 22 Heathaze 204 to avoid her uncle suffering an attack of broken legs.

Grushko, Vitor: Grandfather of Kaylas Chiesa. Born in the Spring of 190, Vitor was a companion of Galen Thorn during the twenty seasons Galen was absent from Bear's Reach between Autumn 189 and Autumn 194. Vitor and his wife Yelanna returned to Bear's Reach with Galen in 194 when Vitor was eighteen seasons of age, and Galen gave Vitor a piece of land on the outskirts of the town on which he started a farm. Despite his age, Vitor is a fit and agile man. Rumour has it that in his youth Vitor was a famous ranger of the wild. However, he has shown little evidence of that in the last forty seasons and most people don't believe the stories. Vitor and Yelanna produced one child (Leyanna) a season after they arrived. Vitor would rather spend his days tending to his vegetables, looking after the goats and sheep and generally "pottering", however for many seasons he has had the dubious pleasure of serving on the village militia. Although his status as an "outsider" denied him a place on the village council, it is this very reason that the town wanted him on the militia. They wanted someone impartial to enforce the law, and Vitor is also extremely proficient in the blade and has tutored his son-in-law Skellan as well as the other members of the small militia. Vitor became provost ten seasons ago. He doesn't care what he does as long as he has good tobacco, a warming fire and a steady audience for his outlandish tales of adventure. On 34 Chillbone Vitor revealed that he killed Baron Swift, and confessed to the crime to save the life of Tarn Brewer. Vitor was rescued by Krais and his companions and fled the town for the Whittenwood and has not been seen since. Vitor's motives for killing the baron are unclear.

Grushko, Yelanna (née Rennier): Grandmother of Kaylas Chiesa. Born in the Autumn of 188, Yelanna was a companion of Galen Thorn during the twenty seasons Galen was absent from Bear's Reach between Autumn 189 and Autumn 194. Yelanna and her husband, Vitor, returned to bear' Reach with Galen in Autumn 194 when Yelanna was twenty-four seasons of age. She helped Vitor establish the farm on the piece of land that Galen gave them, and has worked and lived on that farm ever since. She and her husband are still largely considered outsiders by the rest of the village but this doesn't bother Yelanna. She is an indomitable woman who, although hunched with age, has no intention of letting the ravages of time affect her just yet.

Gruumsh: Head of the orc pantheon and god of war.

Guardians: Inquisitors of the Watchers on the Cusp of Oblivion. The group was created on 30th Lollmeadow 204, by the High Holy Witness of Doom, in answer to the corruption uncovered by the investigation into the death of Ulish Van Caspan. The Guardians remain a new and untested force in the church. Tarex has initially placed them in the hands of Necros Salamar Russ.

Guido: Friend of Alessandre's from Gallworth, encountered by Elias in Gallworth.

Guild of Adventurers: One of the many Urovan guilds; this organisation was founded in 168 LE by Saramil Vyrn, Wisden Kendennis and Jasmin de Bauch. The Guild is very much like an employment agency that connects adventurers and patrons for a percentage of their earnings. It is very large and widespread across all civilised Urovan.
