Iourn Home > A to Z > C

Calafax: Moon god of fire, destruction, war, rebirth and summer. Calafax is worshipped across Urova in three main churched: Fire holds the element itself holy; The Church of Contention is the church of war; and the Bombastics who are little more than terrorists.

Calanary (Brother): Monk from the Order of the Dark Moon who saved Raza from certain death when he was a child. Calarany was Raza's mentor and father figure before his death on 30th First Snow 202.

Calclafique: Country of Urova. Civilised Calclafique is only a small enclave in the south-eastern corner of the land-mass. It is a democracy and ruled by a senate of equals. Politically, Calclafique holds little power on the international stage.

Caldeer: Norandan town.

Caled, Augusta (Lady): Wife of Baron Linley Caled.

Caled, Dai: Dai Caled was once count of Hessex, ruling the county from his ancestral seat of Caled Castle. A staunch supporter of Galahyde the Black and friend of Count Kristus, Dai Caled hired a cell of the Bombastic church to murder Baron Dolanz on 1 Lollmeadow 204, thus preventing the pending marriage with his daughter Rowena. He later claimed that this was because Rowena was promised to the dark sorcerer, Mínaris. Caled was thwarted in this plan by the Chosen of Narramac and Dolanz, who subsequently took his title and his lands. The count is married to Elenor Caled and has five children: Linley, Linton, Gareth, Elisabeth and Rowena. All share his dishonour although all bar his wife keep their original titles. Dai Caled is currently incarcerated in Uris awaiting trial and probable execution.

Caled, Elenor: Once countess of Hessex, Elenor Caled shares the disgrace of her husband's murderous plotting, and has been stripped of her title. She masterminded the betrothal between Dolanz and Rowena Caled, and has completely washed her hands of her husband. She currently lives in Castle Caled (now Castle Dolanz) on the good will of the new count, Bumbrey Dolanz.

Caled, Gareth: Second son of Count Caled. Garath has turned his back on the family and is studying to become a monk with the Order of Infinite Tranquillity. He has a very soft spot for his sister Rowena, and was initially sceptical of her union with Dolanz.

Caled, Herbert (Sir): Son of Baron Linley Caled and Lady Augusta Caled. He is ten seasons of age in Summer 204 LE.

Caled, Linley (Baron): Eldest male child of the ex-Count and Countess of Hessex. Linley was heir to the countdom before his father's disgrace and Dolanz's ascension to the position. Now he can never rise above his current status as ruler of the barony of Bevverham. Linley takes very closely after his father. Has been recently working to remove Aylisha Allenkai from the king's service. An ally of Count Kristus.

Caled, Linton (The Honourable): At sixteen seasons of age, the youngest son of the ex Count Caled. As yet unmarried, Linton greatly admires his brother Linley, and has a penchant for victimising small animals.

Caled, Rowenna (Lady): Youngest daughter of Count Caled. Her betrothal to Baron Dolanz was announced at a party on 37th Suntask 204. At a party on 1 Lollmeadow 204, Dolanz proved his worth by saving the girl's life.

Calmarcus: One of the soldiers in the retinue of Baron Tannith Swift who came to Bear's Reach on 30 Chillbone 204. Guarded the room of Salia Brewer on 32 Chillbone. He pursued Vitor Grushko into the Whittenwood on 35 Chillbone. It is not known whether he still lives.

Calsinor: Uninhabited island that sits in the Bay of Bereavement between the Arms of Uros.

Candalas, Zarina: First flame of Infernus in Timberlake, and immediate superior to Pyrus Vince Loire. Zarina was encountered by the party (3) on 37th Lollmeadow 204. She had a long conversation with Ravenna Tannesh and told the sorceress that her involvement in the Firestarter/Watcher conflict was ordained by Calafax, and that she had the makings of a find priest of fire.

Cardon (Sir): Paladin of the Order of the Roaring Lion. Joined Narramac's grand quest and teamed with fellow paladins Garnir, Zender, Lowron and Patricia as well as the cleric Inictious. Cardon was poisoned by a wyvern sting on 5th Brightday 204, and was unable to participate in the capture of a wyvern egg. However, by the time the party (3) met him again on 22nd Brightday 204 he had made a complete recovery. Cardon is a cheerful and brave paladin, if a little camp.

Carrac: Completely bald dwarven sorcerer. Joined Narramac's quest of Brightday 204 and was teamed with Ariadne, Troklin, Rashadar, Lafdan and Scarina. Threw a bucket of entrails over the paladins led by Sir Garnir on 4th Brightday 204 to distract a pair of wyverns from their nest.

Carrax: Arvan's hooded crow and steadfast companion. Has been known to peck clerics of fire who think he's a pet. Carrax was released by Arvan on 32nd Midsummer 204, before the druid set off into the Plains of Acheron.

Carvin, Thaddeus: Ex-head of the Church of Fortune's Favour in the Village of the Eighteen Churches. Thaddeus Carvin was implicated heavily in the death of Unlish Van Caspan, after it was discovered he had hired Troupe Torrando (the group of Shadowdancers who threw the fireballs that killed hundreds of Watchers). He was allied with Vistral Molontov, and perhaps the mysterious Aldric Kurst, but after his arrest, Carvin spoke not a word. He sat in his cell mumbling in a dark language that even magic could not decipher. After being expelled by his church for starting the war between the Watchers and the Firestarters, and for murder, he was handed over to the Justicians and executed on 48th Lollmeadow 204.

Castle Caled: See Castle Dolanz.

Castle Dolanz: Built in the year 123 LE in the county of Hessex to specifications of the then count, Olran Tivner. The castle is reputed to be haunted by three ghosts: the ghost of Tivner's wife who drowned herself in the well after losing her baby; ten soldiers who stayed behind to man the walls when the castle was overrun by orcs in 172 LE and a ghostly hound who wandered in one day. The Chosen of Narramac didn't see any of these ghosts when they attended the castle on 1 Lollmeadow 204, although there were many Bombastics out to kill them. The castle passed into the Caled family many years ago, and was fiven to Count Dolanz (with all of Hessex) by King Yaddagon on 4 Lollmeadow 204.

Castle Inn: Drinking establishment in Northmeet.

Castle Northmeet: Impressive home of Duke Colharn. Only three people had escaped from the dungeons in the last forty years before the escape of the party (2) on 13th Brightday 204.

Celestine: Yaddagon XIV's only surviving child and theoretical heir to the throne. As a woman she cannot succeed alone, however, and as a result many much younger men are plighting their troth in her general direction. Still single and 10 years old, Celestine is over the hill and unlikely ever to produce an heir. She has a deep affection for Bumbrey Dolanz (the two played as children) although nothing is likely to come from this. Her life was saved by Dolanz and the Chosen of Narramac on 1st Lollmeadow 204. She currently waits in Uris by the bed of her dying father. Present at the Ceremony of the Sword on 25 Heathaze 204.

Central Sea: Body of water at the centre of Urova.

Ceremony of the Sword: Event held on 25 Heathaze at the Tomb of Kings on the Kill of Heroes in Uris. Narramac attempted to pass the Blade of Hope onto Ellyboodle by fixing the magic. Ten thousand hopefuls turned out to try for the sword, that actually passed back to Arvan who wasn't really dead.

Cerenstein (King): King of Norandor from 41 to 42 LE.

Cerrastin: Giant eagle from Kerikal that carried Raza de Luna from the Laughing Rock on 27th Midsummer 204. Cerrastin was not amused when Raza was violently sick all over his plumage.

Challenge: Druidic ritual in which any druid of Accepted status may call out a member of the inner circle and fight for that position. Challengers should only call out individuals of one rank higher than they are, so initiates would challenge one of the nine druids, druids would challenger one of the three archdruids and archdruids would challenge the great druid - this is not always the case, however. Convention dictates that challenges are only made at a moot, in practice this does not always happen.

Chalstatan Wall: A marvellous feat of engineering attributed to the Hadaradans. The wall is 500 miles long and encircles Borrovar and its environs in the country of Tibrai.

Chandar, Abel: Great uncle of Arax Chandar, born Spring 189. He died just three seasons later when the inqusitive child was kicked in the head by a goat.

Chandar, Alice: Great aunt of Arax Chandar, born in Winter 189. Alice died at the age of twelve seasons she she attempted to walk across the thin ice covering the Higham Dip.

Chandar, Arax: Middle child of Sharax and Jeane Chandar, born on 18 Kindlesmoke 200. Arax is the apprentice of the wizard Trevane in the fishing community of Bear's Reach. For more information on Arax see his entry in the Player Character Spotlight.

Chandar, Borax: Uncle of Arax Chandar and the youngest son of Shul and Scylla Chandar. Were it not for Tarn Brewer, Borax would have the reputation as the most scurrilous scallywag who ever lived in the village. In his youth discovered an unworked vein in the Von Turnsgate iron mine and quickly employed numerous Goodies to work it. His conditions were harsh and the price he tried to market the ore for was impossibly high. Eventually his father and the rest of the village council slapped him down, but he still plots his plots and dreams about selling the iron outside Bear's Reach and making his fortune. However, because the mine produces so little iron anyway, this isn't very likely. Borax married the impossibly patient Mina Miller in Autumn 201 and has four children: Ciaron, Isla, Sigurd and Boris.

Chandar, Boris: First cousin of Arax Chandar. The fourth child of Borax and Mina Chandar, born in Spring 203.

Chandar, Cherry: Niece of Arax Chadar. Daughter of Malax and Edna Chandar, born in the summer of 204.

Chandar, Ciaron: First cousin of Arax Chandar. The eldest child of Borax and Mina Chandar, born in Autumn 201. Ciaron greatly admires his father and hopes to grow up to become equally scheming, money-grabbing and fat.

Chandar, Edna (née Lyar): Sister-in-law of Arax Chandar. Edna was born into the Lyar family in Summer 200. She married Malax Chandar in Summer 204 and has a beautiful baby girl called Cherry. Despite her marriage, Edna remains extremely flirtatious much to the annoyance of the elder generation, although it doesn't seem to bother Malax too much.
Chandar, Elleney: Would have been Borax and Mina Chandar's fifth child, and another cousin of Arax. However, she was still born in Autumn 203.

Chandar, Fern: Great aunt of Arax Chandar, born in Winter 187. Fern was an extremely sickly baby who looked on the verge of death almost every day. Everyone was amazed that she made it to her first birthday although she died following day.

Chandar, Forax: Younger brother of Arax Chandar. Third son of Sharax and Jeane Chandar, Forax was born in Winter 200. Always the most delicate of the three brothers, Forax never strayed far from his mother's apron strings. However, since the death of his father in the summer, Forax has hardened markedly. No emotion seems to touch him, and he is set on the path of the fisherman.

Chandar, Gusseth: Great uncle of Arax Chandar, born in Summer 188. Gusseth died in his seventh season of a brain fever that could not be healed. He languished in bed for several months before eventually passing.
Chandar, Isla: First cousin of Arax Chandar. The second child of Borax and Mina Chandar, born in Spring 202. Isla is vey much like her mother and is already on the look out for a suitable man to marry and start a family with, even though she is only ten seasons of age.

Chandar, Jeane (née Fisher): Mother of Arax Chandar. Daughter of Mian and Rose Fisher, born in Spring 195. Jeane was the only child of master boat builder Mian, and married off to his best friend Shul's eldest son (Sharax) in Spring 199. The pair produced three children: Malax, Arax and Forax. Jeane encourages all her children in their chosen pursuits and was particularly supportive of Arax's desire to become an apprentice wizard. She was widowed in Spring 204 when Sharrax was lost at sea and fears for the safety of Forax who is soon to start life as a fisherman. Jeane must also care for her mad mother who dwells in the attic of her home.

Chandar, Kilrathy: One of the thirteen companions of Scarman Thorn, who came to Bear's Reach in 38 LE. Kilrathy was a craftsman and woodworker of some skill.

Chandar, Malax: Brother of Arax Chandar. Eldest son of Sharax and Jeaen Chandar, born in Winter 199. As the eldest son, Malax was trained by his father in the trade of master boat-builder. He received this tutelage for for most of his life, and following his father's death he is the youngest master boat-builder Bear's Reach has ever seen, at nineteen seasons. Malax's grandfather, Shul, helps his grandson in this endeavour but still believes that he is in charge, which can be rather irritating. Malax married Edna Lyar in Summer 204 and they currenty have a baby daughter called Cherry.

Chandar, Mina (née Miller): Aunt of Arax Chandar. Born into the Miller family in Winter 197, Mina was fifteen seasons of age when she married Borax Chandar. It was considered a good match because Borax had the potential to be a rich bigshot. However, that never happened - which suited Mina just fine as she doesn't want wealth or money, just children. She and Borax had four children: Ciaron, Isla, Sigurd and Boris. A fifth child, Elleney died in childbirth in Autumn 203 and since that tiem Mina has sword never to have any more.

Chandar, Morvax: Uncle of Arax Chandar. Middle child of Shul and Scylla Chandar, Morvax was born in Winter 195. Tragically he did not live to adulthood. While travelling on the fishing boats at the age of eigt he fell over the side during a storm and could not be recovered.

Chandar, Scylla (née Farmer): Grandmother of Arax Chandar. Eldest child of Bobcat and Saskia Farmer, born in Spring 191. Scylla retained close contact with her family even after her marriage to Shul Chandar in Winter 194. She often returned to the farm to help out and still does - some would say anything to get away from her insufferable husband. Scylla is mother to three children: Borax, Morvax and Sharax although only one currently survives.

Chandar, Sharax: Father of Arax Chandar, and the eldest child of Shul and Scylla Chandar. Sharax was born in Winter 194 and worked with his father under the tutelage of master boat builder Mian Fisher. Shul and Mian were close friends and arranged the marriage of Sharax and Mian's daughter, Jeane, in Spring 199. Mian was going to teach Sharax the trade as a master-boat builder, but after Mian was killed at sea in Autumn 199, Sharax was left without a tutor. Shul thought he could fill the gap, but did not really make the grade. Much of Sharax's skill was, therefore, self taught. Sharax took it upon himself to tutor his own eldest son (Malax) to follow in his footsteps. Sharax heartily disapproved of Arax, taking up with Trevane in Spring 204, but never mentioned it to the wizard's face. Sharax was lost at sea in the Summer of 204 and his family are still recovering from the shock.

Chandar, Shul: Paternal grandfather of Arax Chandar, head of the Chandar family and member of the village council. Born in Autumn 190 Shul was the youngest of eight children and (along with his sisters Thora and Drusilla) one of the only three to survive into adulthood. Shul married Scylla Farmer in Winter 194 and the pair produced three children: Sharax, Morvax and Borax. Morvax died in childhood, but Shul was proud to see his two other sons marry and make him a grandfather, although he mourned the death of Sharax when he was lost at sea. In his youth Shul was good friends with master boat-builder Mian Fisher, and the pair organised the marriage of their children Sharax and Jeane. Shul was trained as a boat builder by Mian, although Mian intended to train his son-in-law rather than his friend to replace him. However, Mian was lost at sea only two seasons after the marriage. Despite Sharax being the master boat-builder, Shul always thought he was in charge and continues to poke his bose into the business and the work of the current mater boat-builder, Malax, on a daily basis. On the whole he can be a bit of an irritating know-it-all, but Shul is by far the most proficient boat builder currently living in the town.

Chandar, Sigurd: First cousin of Arax Chandar. The third child of Borax and Mina Chander, born in Autumn 202. Sigurd has no greater ambition than to be a miner.

Chandar, Yuri: Great uncle of Arax Chandar, born in Summer 187. The eldest of the eight Chandar children, Yuri died at the age of eleven seasons after he picked and ate the wrong sort of berries while wandering in the woods.

Chapel Lane: An exclusive area of Uris, close to the mercant district. Chapel Lane is full of very expensive town houses where the elite shake their thing. Ravenna's Jhasik brought a house in this neighbourhood, a testament to how much money he was making, but lost it soon after when his business disintegrate. The Infamous Fenton Pryde lives here.

Chapter House: Title given to the main church of the Arcanum Incognita within a given parish.

Chargek: Huge half-orc warrior and bodyguard to Illtilmus. Joined Narramac's quest with his master on 1st Brightday 204. Teamed with Morgan, Plensis, Toomor and Yargon.

Chiesa, Carlotta (née Weaver): Kaylas Chiesa's paternal grandmother. Born into the Weaver family in Winter 191, Carlotta always had a nose for other people's business. She married Sigmund Chiesa when she was only thirteen seasons of age and settled into a role of mother and housewife. She produced a son (Skellan) in Spring 195 and a daughter (Heidi) in Autumn 195, but after that she was unable to have more children. She spends her time cleaning the shrine to Terranor and generally helping Sigmund in his work. Although far from the oldest person in the village her age is beginning to tell. Carlotta is extremely thin and frail, and many do not believe she will last the winter.

Chiesa, Joachim: Elder brother of Kaylas Chiesa. Born in Summer 199, Joachim is the eldest child of Leyanna and Skellan Chiesa. He hopes to follow his father's example in life. Joachim is a strong, broad-shouldered lad with a talent for fishing and for fighting. Skellan hopes to get him into the militia with him, so Joachim can partner him during their weekly games of cannasta. Joachim is currently seeing the delightful Alice Smith, and all the family is hoping they will soon be married.

Chiesa, Kaylas: The middle child of Leyanna and Skellan Chiesa, born on 33 Lollmeadow 200. Kaylas is the only acolyte of the priest of the Church of the Land resident in Bear's Reach. For more information on Kaylas, see his entry in the Player Character Spotlight.

Chiesa, Lanna: Younger sister of Kaylas Chiesa, born to Leyanna and Skellan Chiesa in Spring 201. At a time when Lanna should be blooming into woman-hood she is becoming progressively more withdrawn from the company of others, and spends more and more time in the cloistered away in dark rooms with her grandmother. What rumours have reached the village at large (usually through Carlotta Chiesa) do not bode well, but Lanna's parents don't think much of it. Lanna is a pretty girl, very much cast from the same mould as her mother and grandmother.

Chiesa, Leyanna (née Grushko): Mother of Kaylas Chiesa. Born in Winter 194, Leyanna is the only child of Vitor and Yelanna Grushko. Still slim and with the long golden hair her mother enjoyed until recently, Leyanna is an immensely helpful and well-intentioned woman, with the happy knack of always having the solution to any problem. Unlike her parents she has achieved some degree of acceptance in the village by marrying Skellan Chiesa in Spring 199. She has three children: Joachim, Kaylas and Lanna.

Chiesa, Marko: One of the thirteen companions of Scarman Thorn who came to Bear's Reach in 38 LE. Marko was a priest in the service of Terranor.

Chiesa, Sigmund: Paternal grandfather of Kaylas Chiesa. Sigmund was born an only child in Autumn 191 and was pressurised by his own father to become the next priest of the Church of the Land. He duly did so, and allowed his father to map out his entire life. He married Carlotta Weaver in Spring 195 when he was fourteen seasons and she was only thirteen. She became pregnant very soon after and bore a son, Skellan and a daughter, Heidi. Sigmund expected Skellan to follow in his footsteps but Skellan had other ideas and a rift formed between father and son that the well-meaning Skellan eventually mended. Sigmundwas forced to turn to his second grandson (Kaylas) to find someone willing to follow him into the Church. He believes Kaylas has great potential, but intends to work his acolyte hard, and instruct him in the ways of the church. Sigmund is an emotional cripple, completely unable to show his true feelings. Threfore the impending death of his wife doesn't seem to affect him.

Chiesa, Skellan: Father of Kaylas Chiesa. Born in Spring 195 to Sigmund and Carlotta Chiesa, Skellan was groomed from an early age to follow his father into the priesthood. However, although Skellan saw that the work of the Church of the Land was important he decided it really wasn't for him. Why tie yourslef down to one profession when there is so much of the world to enjoy? Skellan is many things… part-time farmer, part-time fisherman, part-time member of the militia and full-time father… he has an excellent sense of humour and a zest for life that many men half his age have lost. In Spring 199 he married the beautiful Leyanna Grushko and moved onto the Grushko farmstead, much to the annoyance of his father. But the affable Skellan soon mended things with his father. Skellan is the father of three children: Joachim, Kaylas and Lanna. He gets on tremendously well with his father-in-law Vitor, and hopes for a long and happy life.

The current chronicler, Havelock Weaver, has been in post since Autumn 199.

Church of the Sun: The main religion in the Hadradan Empire. The Church is based around the worship of a single deity the Hadradan people refer to as "God". God is represented on the mortal plane by the sun, hence the fact that the Hadradans are sun worshippers. Which also goes some way to explain the pleasant Urovan insult of calling someone a "lousy sun-worshipping bastard."

He is a fair-minded man, but also a good soldier who never disobeys orders. Cooper, Amanda (née Fisher): Born into the Fisher family in Summer 189, Amanda married Finious Cooper in Autumn 193. A caring and consider woman, Amanda remains the heart of the family, and the person all her various children and grandchildren turn to. Through a number of missed chances and untimely accidents, Amanda is not yet a great-grandmother (her youngest grandchild is only 17) and she is not happy about this. She insists that her grandchildren start "getting busy" as soon as possible.

Cooper, Anwell: Eldest child of Caerdrin and Lottie, born in Summer 200. Anwell is under pressure form his grandmother to get marired and give her some great grandchildren, but he does his best to ignore the old woman. He is not currently seeing any of the girls in the village. He spends most of his time with his mother learning how to play the drums

Cooper, Bilious: Elder brother of Finious Cooper, born way back in Spring 187, Bilious was always groomed as the new patriarch of the family. He married Lavinia Walker in Summer 193 and the pair produced a daughter, Belladonna. Cooper, Caerdrin: Middle child of Finious and Amanda Cooper, born in Winter 195. Caerdrin married Lottie Dyer in Spring 200 and has produced three children: Anwell, Seelie and Gregor. Caerdin has made all his wife's drums and has thus earned him the ire of the town.

He married Amanda Fisher in Autumn 193 and began the task of building a large family of barrelwrights. After the death of his brother, Bilious, and his wife the following season Finious and Amanda took in their child, Belladonna, and raised her as their own. Finious has five of his own children, all of which survive to this day. Finious is a kindly old man who desired little more than living a quiet life and not "being bothered by the doings of young people".

Cooper, Gregor: Youngest child of Caerdin and Lottie, born in Summer 202. Gregor is a generally sickly youth, always bringing up phlegm, picking his nose or farting outrageously.

Cooper, Knarris: Thorn Njedelstrom's first cousin by marriage. A true craftsman. Knarris takes so much time and pride in the barrels he makes that it is said one has to put an order with him in the spring if you want to be able to store food for the winter. Knarris is never seen with a piece of whittling wood and, if he is not making barrels, he is carving elaborate figurines often of a pornographic nature. Knarris was born in the spring of 194 LE and married the slight older Lily Njedlestrom in Spring 198. Knarris takes his wife's ability to "see the unseen" with a barrel full of salt. Knarris had two children: Percy and Gaynor. Percy vanished many years ago, but Knarris ahs immortalised the boy in many carvings.
Cooper, Lavinia (née Walker): Born into the Walker family in Autumn 186. She married Bilious Cooper in Summer 193, and the pair had a daughter they named Belladonna. Both Lavinia and her husband were killed in an avalanche at White Bear Peak in the Winter of 193.

A strange and withdrawn child Lily believes in the presence of spirits and claims to be able to see things others cannot. She never knew her sister, Olna, but claims that the spirit of the girl still lurks in the town. Mentioning Olna always upsets her parents. For a while it was thought that Lily had inherited the Sight from old Kvar, but the considered opion these days is that Lily is a bit of old fraud. Lily was married in in the Spring of 198 to Knarris Cooper, the town barrel-wright. She has produced two children a boy (Percy) who disappeared in his youth and a girl, Gaynor. Lily is convinced Percy ascended to a higher spiritual plane.

Cooper, Lottie (née Dyer): Born to Fundin and Mildred Dyer in Summer 196, Lottie married Caerdrin Cooper in Winter 195. A keen snare-drum player, Lottie is the least popular member of the Cooper family, particularly when she feels the need to practice in the wee hours of the morning. She is undeniably talented, if thoughtless and rather loud. She has three slightly deaf children: Anwell, Seelie and Gregor.

Cooper, Minnow: First child of Thomlin and Esther, born in Autumn 201. Minnow was born with only four fingers on his left hand. The superstitious in town consider this to be a dread omen of some kind.

Cooper, Mulbrin: Second child of Finious and Amanda Cooper, born in Spring 195. Mulbrin was a socially-inept loner who was eventually crowbarred into marriage with Yngly Walker in Summer 202 when he was twenty-nine seasons of age. Mulbrin has grown into the role, however, and has two children: Fergal and Christine.

Cooper, Nunce: Third child of Thomlin and Esther, born in Winter 202. Nunce is extremly cowardly, and spends most of his life in perpetual fright from one thing or another.

Cooper, Percy: First cousin once removed of Thorn Njedelstrom. Born in Summer 198, Percy was the first child of Lily and Knarris Cooper. He was a sensitive boy, and very close to his mother. When he was twelve seasons of age (Summer 201), he disappeared. It is assumed he wandered into the woods and got lost or fell to the predations of the creatures that dwel1 there.

Cooper, Sallie: Second child of Thomlin and Esther, born in Spring 202. Intelligent beyond her years, Sallie wants some day to be the new Chronicler and spends a fair amount of time helping the Chronicler in his work.

Cooper, Seelie: Middle child of Caerdrin and Lottie, born in Winter 200. Seelie is currently pregnant, although no-one knows who the father is and she is not saying. The pregnancy has been concealed from Amanda Cooper (the grandmother who is so desperate for great-grandchildren). There is a rumour that the father is Illyan Snowmanthle and that after getting Emmaelia Craftwright pregnant he has moved onto the Coopers. Seelie has said nothing to dismiss this rumour.

Cooper, Thomlin: Fourth child of Finious and Amanda Cooper, born in Winter 196. Thomlin married Esther Smith in Summer 201 and has three children: Minnow, Sallie and Nunce. Thomlin has always been extremely excited by the prospect of barrel-making: something that very few other people can understand (even members of his family).

Cooper, Yngly (née Walker): Born into the Walker family in Summer 198, she married the ageing and balding Mulbrin Cooper in Summer 202. Yngly never pretended to have a great deal of affection for her husband, but they have become firm friends through their nine seasons of marriage and two children.

Coral Palace: Impressive temple of the Church of Water based in Sorgar. The largest of any temple in the city.

Corinth: Town in Kerikal.

Corwyn: One of the soldiers in the retinue of Baron Tannith Swift who came to Bear's Reach on 30 Chillbone 204. He pursued Vitor Grushko into the Whittenwood on 35 Chillbone. It is not known whether he still lives.

Council of Adventure: The ruling body of the Guild of Adventurers that meets weekly, or when the need arises, in Intrepidity in Uris. There are eleven members, one for each of the countries where the Guild has a presence. The current members of the Council of Adventure are: Aldous Wrardin (Norandor), Jenwell Selendus (Calclafique), Ogan Renus (Eldagaire), Yanosh (Genbasson), Emile Vandif (Junos) Ugluk Morningstar (Kerikal), Artur Melabonn (Salmaynak), Cerecee Incantos (Sorostrae), Galvin McMuir (Tibrai), Durlan Withers (Gunstadtan) and Diamond Hilbin Jan Guneetherish (the Five Colour Kingdom).

Council of Colours: A group of five noble gnomes who advise the king of the Five Colour Kingdom. One is taken from each of the five noble houses.

Court of Doom: Court of the High Holy Witness of Doom (supreme head of the Watchers). Currently based at Oblivios in Uris.

Coutan: Norandan town.

Covenant: An ancient pledge taken by the original clerics of Urova's six moon gods. They swore never to interfere in each other's faiths or to take up arms against one another.

Craftwright, Belladonna (née Cooper): Born Bilious and Lavinia in Autumn 193, Bellandonna was orphansed the following season when her parents were swept away by an avalanche at White Bear Peak. She was raised by her uncle Finious and family, and went onto become the long-suffering wife of Lorik Craftwright. She persevered through six daughters, trying to give her husband Lorik a son. It is widely believed that the pressure to produce a son is eventually what killed her. Belladonna died in winter 202 aged thirty-seven seasons.

Craftwright, Bryce: Youngest child of Garnet and Ellen Craftwright, born in Spring 195. Bryce was married in Spring 199 to the delectable Elayne Lyar and went on to produce four healthy children, three of them sons much to the despair of his eldest brother, Lorik. Bryce finds this exceedingly amusing, and therefore Lorik doesn't speak to him very much. Bryce is a highly skilled thatcher and he and his sons are responsible for all the roofs in the village.

Craftwright, Carson: Only son of Kurt and Rebecca Craftwright and dedicated to following in his father's footsteps as the town's professional carpenter. Carson is much like his father: tolerant, fair-minded and impossible to anger. He was born Autumn 199, and married Meg Farmer in Summer 204. He has one child, a boy called Mog.

Craftwright, Elayne (née Lyar): Born into the Lyar family in Summer 195, Elayne was married to Bryce Craftwright in Spring 199. After four children she is willing to sit back and become a kept woman, although life isn't panning out quite as she imagined.

Craftwright, Ellen (née Dyer): The long-suffering wife of Garnet Craftwright who, in her dotage, can't remember why she married the miserable old bugger. After the death of her husband and her three sons making families of their own she left the family house and moved in with the ancient Ozymandias Goodie. The pair currently "live in sin" in a shack on the outskirts of the village. Ellen was born in Autumn 189, but remains a strong and hearty woman. Ellen is the sister of Gail Njedelstrom and therefore Thorn Njedelstrom's aunt.

Craftwright, Emmaelia: Born the in the Craftwright family in Summer 200, Emmaelia is the youngest of Lorik Craftwright's six daughters and the only one yet to marry. From a very early age she has been extremely close to the changeling child, Illyan Snowmantle - considering him her "soul mate". Despite her father's rants and edicts she always found time to be with him. Emmaelia fell pregnant in Spring 204 and bore a child she named Dael. The village at large believes Illyan to be the father although Emmaelia has not confirmed or denied this. As Lorik's hatred for Illyan grew, Emmaelia found herself progressively more isolated and forced to bring up Dael without the support of a husband. Many of her most cherished pastimes were suboordinated to her new role as a mother - a role she found quite overwhelming. Desperate for help, and realising that she and Illyan can never be together, Emmaelia agreed to marry Salmon Njedelstrom.

Craftwright, Garnet: Almost three decades after his death the phrase "as miserable as Garnet" is still used in Bear's Reach to describe anyone sour-tempered, curmudgeonly and obnoxious….. although in all that time no-one has come close to the original. Garnet was born in Autumn 187 and orphaned at an early age. Nothing in life could make him smile, and very little did not meet with his direct disapproval. He married Ellen Dyer Winter 193 and produced three sons: Lorik, Kurt and Bryce - although he made it known that he took no pleasure in the union, the act or the result. He died in Autumn 197 of no discernible cause. Everyone said he was just too miserable to live.

Craftwright, Gelpar: Third child of Bryce and Elayne Craftwright. Born in Summer 204. Gelpar is also a thatcher.

Craftwright, Joy: Daughter of Milton and Susan Craftwright. Born in Summer 204.

Craftwright, Kari: Youngest child of Kurt and Rebecca Craftwright. Kari finds carpentry extremely boring and has a dream to be a fisherman. She spends much of her time hanging around with the Njedelstrom and Fisher families, making a general nuisance of herself. Illyan hid under Kari's bed on 41 Chillbone during his abortive attempt to speak to Emmaelia. Kari was later asked to the Festival of Winter Warding by Thorn Njedelstrom, but whether the two of them will become a couple remains to be seen.

Craftwright, Kurt: Second of Garnet and Ellen's three children, Kurt is a skilled carpenter and has passed his skills onto his son, Carson. Kurt was born in Autumn 194 married Rebecca Goodie in Autumn 199. He finds the behaviour of his brother Lorik rather embarassing and is by far the most level-headed and well-meaning member of the trio.

Craftwright, Lorik: Widower and current head of the Craftwright family. Lorik was born in Spring 194 he married Beladonna Cooper in Autumn 198. All Lorik wanted from life was a son to carry on the family business of stonemasonry, and a son was the one thing he never had. The father of six children (all girls) Lorik goes through life in a perpetually depressed and easily irritated state. His children in order of birth are Jeena, Melissa and Marie (twins), Rose, Annette and Emmaelia. Although he loves his girls he somewhat resents the fact they are not boys, and that with each successive marriage he becomes poorer and poorer. This was greatly exacerbated by the death of his wife after a short illness in the winter of 202. Despite being firmly middle-aged Lorik is still hoping to re-marry and get the son he is desperate for. He is currently wooing the spinster Moira Thorn (who is no spring chicken herself). As the years passed Lorik has sunk into a deeper and deeper depression, and he often takes out his mood on the only daughter still living at home, Emmaelia. Emmaelia's prenancy and subsequent birth of a boy angered him - particularly as the father is the no good half-breed Illyan (alledgely). Lorik tried to pass the boy off as his own offspring (with a travelling gypsy), but the village council saw through that in a moment. After he failed to have Dael named as his own son, Lorik arranged the marriage of his daughter and Salmon Njedelstrom, and is pleased this is progressing as planned.

Craftwright, Meg (née Farmer): Third child of Braebree and Helen Farmer, born in the Winter of 199. Meg married the affable Carson Craftwright in Summer 204. They have one son, Mog.

Craftwright, Milton: Eldest son of Bryce and Elayne Craftwright. Born in Summer 199, Milton is almost as skilled a thatcher as his father. He marrid Susan Dyer in Spring 204, and has one child: a daughter called Joy.

Craftwright, Mog: First and currently only child of Carson and Meg Crafttwright, born in Summer 204.

Craftwright, Rebecca (née Goodie): Born in Autumn 195, Rebecca married Kurt Craftwright in Autumn 199 and has since produced four children. She is quite the carpenter herself, and Kurt has taken the scandalous step of letting his wife work in a profession.

Craftwright, Sark: Fourth child of Byrce and Elayne Craftwright. Born in Winter 200. Sark is also a thatcher.

Craftwright, Susan (née Dyer): Born into the Dyer family in Winter 199, Susan married Milton Craftwright in Spring 204. She has one daughter called Joy.

Crisp: Acolyte of the Church of Fire. One of the the few survivors of Scaldarnus when it was destroyed by the Watchers on 11th Suntask 204.

Cromlin: Ranger who patrols the grounds of the Old Utavran Inn keeping it safe for the patrons. Why he stays in such a small area is a bit of a mystery.

Cross of Vítaeous: A near-mythical magical artefact said to possess fantastic healing powers. The location of the cross is lost to time, and the Church of Life has pretty much given up looking for it. The paladin Order of the Shining Fist has taken the quest to find the cross as a test for newly commissioned members. No paladin has come close to finding the cross.

Culdoon (Sergeant): Second-in-command of Yaddagon's palace guards, Culdoon serves under Captain Orthus. Tried and failed to take the Blade of Hope at the Ceremony of the Sword on 25 Heathaze 204.

Cullbarren Peaks: A mountain range on the northern border of Norandor. The Peaks are separated from the Gunstadtan Hills by the Straits of Gunstadtan. Many small villages call the Peaks home. Tribes of goblins are not uncommon, and have been increasing in recent months.

Curmudgeon: Riddler at the court of King Yaddagon XI and XII. Curmudgeon was the world's worst entertainer and pun-artist. He sought humour through always taking what people said literally. Some of his most infamous riddles include "What's brown and sticky?... a stick" and "Why did the girl fall off the swing?... because she had no arms." Curmudgeon was sentenced to death for being rubbish by Yaddagon XII, but the king died before his orders could be carried out. Narramac called for the answer to Curmudgeon's riddle to be a part of the grand quest he set in Brightday 204. He caused many problems by not stipulating which riddle.

Custodians of Concordance: A truly ancient religion dedicated to the worship of the dragon god, Io. According to Dralcarnus, the Custodians came into being at the end of the Dragon Wars as many dragons (and other races) gave thanks to Io for the end of the conflict. Io tolerated the worship while the Custodians saw him as the embodiment of all dragonkind and all alignments. However, several thousand years ago the faith evolved to the worship each figment of Io seperately. On the continent of Urova nine separate temples were constructed, each dedicated to one aspect of the god. Io saw this as dangerously partisan and something that could re-ignite the Dragon Wars. He killed off the Custodians, buried the temples (Ashardon included) and took steps to make certain they never rose to power again. The religion of the Custodians of Concordance ceased to exist from that day, although a bastardised version of it may still be practised in secret.

Cyryth Allavoraen: A name behind which the secret of the columns discovered by the party (2) on 4th Brightday 204 can be found. According to Narramac if the party (3) discovered what Cyryth Allavoraen was, then they would find the answers they sought.
