Wainwright,
Mathew St. John (Special Agent): Wainwright was in charge
of looking after a collection of ancient Egyptian artefacts that
went missing the same day he won the lottery. Suspicion was such
that he was transferred to the mid-west evidence response team on
16 December 2000. He lasted three days until his leg was torn off
by the mirror ghost, Plum Blossom. He survived the experience and,
after extensive surgery and rest, plans to return to duty as the
west coast team's librarian. See also: Mathew
Wainwright Casefile.
Walcott, Chris: Genealogist based
in Chicago. First contacted by Artemis Black on 3 November 2000
to look into Black's connections with the Joker, Walcott has subsequently
worked on the Apache Joe case (S73)
for evidence response.
Wallace, Kurt: High ranking agent
in the Intelligence Division. Currently working on Operation: Walled
Garden in Concorde, New Hampshire. Encountered by the mid-west agents
on 29 August 2001. See case CI0203/NH2.
Walters, Douglas: Materials chemist,
specialising in semi-conductors who has been based at Dynamicorp's
Think Tank in Winterset since April 2001. A member of the first
materials team. See case TL348.
Walker, Brain: Bookbinder and
amateur local historian resident in Joplin, Missouri. Interviewed
by Artemis Black on 5 February 2001 in the hope he could shed some
light on the history of the town. Sadly, it was not discovered he
was one of the black necromancers the agents sought until after
he had poisoned Artemis and tried to shoot him. He was arrested,
but liberated from hospital by his fellow cultists in time to summon
Yog-Sothoth that evening. He and his allies were thwarted by the
mid-west evidence response team, and Walker is assumed to have died
in the conflagration that consumed the area. See case JOP312.
Wall, Chuck: Senior shift miner
at the Copperhead Mine in Casper, Wyoming.
Wallace, Sandra (Leading Agent):
Head of the Critical Response unit based in Fredericksburg, Virginia
and responsible for fast turnaround agent retrieval. Encountered
by the mid-west team as part of case FB563.
Wallace remembers Jane Munroe's incident in Australia and, like
the rest of her team, finds it quite hilarious. Before joining the
FBI, Wallace was an accomplished long-distance runner. She is currently
engaged in an affair for senior agent, Brian Woods. This is wholly
against FBI policy. The mid-west team are sitting on this information
in case they ever have to use it against Wallace.
Ward, Herbert 'Herbie': Amateur
golfer and head of the multi-national company Ward Industries. Ward
owns the Copperhead Mine in Casper, Wyoming investigated in case
CS1473-IND. He also owned
a copper mine in Santa Barbara that was swarming with cultists until
Special Agent Benedict Oaxaca blew it up. Coincidence?
Warring, Reginald (Special Agent):
Agent in charge of investigation into Alex Drake's relationship
with the 'criminal' Raphael. Contacted Jane Munroe on 24 May 2001
to demand she and Drake attend a hearing in Virgina. As this "relationship"
was inadvertantly caused by Jane's time travelling, Drake decided
to correct the problem with time travel. As the time line currently
stands Reginald Warring never called Jane, has never spoken to her,
and the investigation never took place. The mid-west team have written
notes explaining to them who Reginald Warring is. See the section
on Time Travel for more information.
Watkins, Dave: Secret service
agent who helps administer the witness protection scheme from the
Clement Strong FBI Centre in Utah. Watkins is the only person who
knows of Lewis Sneddon-Small's new identity.
Watson, Emily (Doctor): Microbiologist
who works at the Twin Valley Farm outside Wichita, Kansas. A relatively
attractive woman she is tired of being hit on by a punch of scientists
with less social skills than a leper. Wilkes has developed a virus
that is deadly to mice and other forms of rodent. She was examined
by Jane Munroe on 10 January 2001 for possible brain bug impregnation
but found to be clean.
Watson, Randall: Crony of Leroy
Bryce. Probably paid by him to illegally work unused sections of
the Copperhead Mine in Casper, Wyoming. He was killed by Elaine
Ross on or just before 4 December 2000 to cover her tracks as she
fled Casper. See case CS1473-IND.
Waymen, Wyatt (Senior Special Agent):
FBI agent in charge of the Joker case. He was at a jazz party with
most of the New Orleans FBI when the Joker struck and killed Nathan
Harlow, Sam Snift and Giles Kitty on 18 October 2000. Waymen encountered
Nathan's ghost the following day, but is in denial about that.
Webb, Douglas (Special Agent):
A deep-cover agent attached to the Critical Response unit in Fredericksburg,
Virgina. Following the theft from their secure vault on 11 November
2000, Webb investigated the vault with agent Harry Jordan. During
the subsequent investigation of case FB563,
Webb was away from the Fredericksburg office on a deep cover assignment.
Webber, Hannah: Eighteen year
old potential vicitm of Apache Joe resident in Temple, Texas. See
case S73.
Wells, Marie née Silone (Special
Agent): Long term FBI partner of Wendell Wells, she married
him on 12 February 1997. She stood by her husband through all his
insanities, although she is giving him a few weeks to find his feet
with evidence response.
Wells, Mary: Mother of Wendell
Wells, murdered by dastardly criminals while leaving a theatre in
New York City on 27 July 1983.
Wells, Richard: Father of Wendell
Wells, murdered by dastardly criminals while leaving a theatre in
New York City on 27 July 1983.
Wells, Wendell
(Special Agent): Highly decorated member of the FBI originally
based in New York until a untimely accident with a steel pipe, large
vat of chemicals and a drugs baron ended his career. Suffering under
the delusion he was a superhero called Captain Dynamo, Wells took
to the streets of New York to fight crime caped-crusader style.
He was arrested and underwent a year of intensive psychiatric therapy
before being released in November 2000. He was immediately assigned
to the mid-west evidence response team to temporarily cover the
removal of Jane Munroe from active duty. Wells was never cured of
his delusions and still thinks he possesses indomitable super-powers.
On his first case for evidence response Wendell was bitten by a
werewolf and infected with lycanthropy. However, these added strengths
simply play into his delusion. He doesn't think he's a werewolf,
but he does think he is more than human. Wendell quickly proved
to be more of a danger to the team than an asset. His actions were
directly responsible for the death of fellow agent, Elise Steiger
and the following day he almost killed Artemis Black in a helicopter
accident. Black subsequently had the agent committed. Wendell is
married. His wife, Marie, is also an FBI agent and works in New
York. See also: Wendell Wells
Casefile.
West, Jane: Member of Veronica
Cunningham's coven based at Dallas university. She joined other
coven members: Newtridge Hardy, Veronica Suzanne, Colleen Williams,
Louise Milton and Josephine McKenna in Veronica's plan to petrify
Joshua Blackthorne on 12 December 2000. Jane was a powerful Wicca
and often led the ritual of three after Veronica's death. However,
despite this power she was terrified by Veronica's return from the
dead. The death of Newtridge Hardy pushed her too far and she abandoned
the coven to hide in a mystical woodland that protected her from
Veronica's scrying attempts. It was from here that she turned to
the mid-west team and aided them with information that eventually
led them to make sense of the case. Following Veronica and Josephine's
deaths, it is assumed that Jane returned to her studies. See case
DL1034.
West, Patrick (Special Agent):
Member of the Critical Response unit based in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
Encountered by the mid-west team during their investigation of case
FB563. West has an interest
in the civil war era and participates in civil war re-enactment.
He displayed a helpful knowledge of the antique weapons that were
stolen.
White: Codename of a Ukrainian
spy who took the name Elaine Ross.
White, Thomas: Founding member
of the Jackson & White Landscaping company, and contractor who
works at the Irongates Military Cemetery in Joplin, Missouri with
Charles Jackson. Assisted the mid-west evidence response team during
case JOP312.
White, Reginald: Lawyer who bought
the law firm McCollins, Gillette & Couvert from James
McCollins in 1981. He was contacted by the agents during case ES174.
Whitegate, Gordon (Lieutenant):
Campus cop with a photographic memory, based at the Dallas University
campus. First to arrive at the scene of Newtridge Hardy's death
on 10 April 2001. Whitegate used to work at the Baylor College of
Medicine in Houston. He remembers busting Jane Munroe and Kirsty
Faber back in their student days when he caught them driving an
automobile while under the influence of narcotics.
Whiteroad, James: Contact of Artemis
Black who seems to know something about the occult. He doesn't like
Black much, though.
Whitman, Doreen: Beatnik maternal
grandmother of Jane Munroe. Forced to give up her child for adoption
after an ill-considered coupling with Chance Cassell. The baby,
Stella (Jane's mother) was adopted by the Gleemans.
Whitton, Roland: Works at the
FBI labs in Quantico. Got a partial match for the plate of Adam
Yoshima's white van in case BV004.
Wicker, Vera: Excellent dance
instructor based in Winterset suggested to Jane Munroe by Martha
Church. Vera taught Jane the basics of dancing over three intensive
days toward the end of April 2001.
Wiggles (Mr): A cat missing somewhere
in Estelle, Louisiana. The agents saw a poster appealing for information
about the disappearance at the local gospel church on 20 June 2001.
Wilkes, Joshua (Doctor): Mycologist
who works at the Twin Valley Farm outside Wichita, Kansas. A thin,
crescent-shaped, man Wilkes is extremely dull. He is obsessed with
a fungal growth on the barn that is slightly less remarkable than
seeing a loaf of bread in a bakers. On 10 January 2001 he was examined
by Jane Munroe for evidence of brain bug impregnation but found
to be clean.
William: Receptionist at the Longbeach
Youth Hostel in Los Angeles. Recognised Professor Alton as the "creepy
guy" who picked up Maria Fuentez. See case BRB012.
Williams, Colleen: Extremely attractive
member of Veronica Cunningham's coven based at Dallas university.
She joined other coven members: Newtridge Hardy, Veronica Suzanne,
Jane West, Louise Milton and Josephine McKenna in Veronica's plan
to petrify Joshua Blackthorne on 12 December 2000. A powerful witch,
Colleen was still possessed by the spirit of Veronica Cunningham
when she wanted to speak to her coven from beyond the grave. This
terrified her, but she could not bring herself to move against Veronica,
even after Newt's death. See case DL1034.
Williams, Colette: Fourth victim
of Apache Joe, murdered in El Paso, Texas on 31 March 1992. See
case S73.
Williams, Gail: Friend of Elijah
Stone, currently working with Alcohol, Firearms and Tobacco in Puerto
Rico. Gail was once involved in a relationship with Earl Jameson.
Williams, Murray: Winterset resident
and race-car driver who participated in the big race at Jake's Field
in Winterset on 6 May 2001. He came second to Alex Drake.
Williams, Jack (Special Agent):
Original FBI investigator on case WK001
(USAF duplicate uniforms). This case was turned over to evidence
response on 26 September 2000.
Williams,
Richard Justice (Special Agent): The name was first mentioned
on 7 May 2001, and thought to be Eisenstein's secretary who now
works for Artemis Black. Williams is actually an old friend of Eisenstein's
from the air force, and shared Eisenstein's longevity after an encounter
at Gila Mountain in 1937. He is current a Special Agent who works
the Grey Case files but was never assigned to any particular team.
He works alone and gets the job done, no questions asked. He is
unbelievably experienced and skilled. He was deep under cover when
Eisenstein was murdered, otherwise he would have become acting director
instead of Artemis Black. Currently, he is looking in Eisenstein's
death.
Willis (Doctor): Doctor resident
in Casper, Wyoming. Summoned by the mid-west evidence response team
on 9 December 2000 to aid Alan Hamblin III. Hamblin was already
dead.
Wilmington, Jeanette: Secretary
at the Newark morgue. Spoke the evidence response agents over the
telephone on 12 May 2001 regarding the disappearance of Dr Douglas
Fairbanks. See case NW988.
Wilson, Colin: Librarian at the
Los Angeles Central Library. He has an interest in occult and was
a colleague of Alan Hamblin III.
Wilson, GG: Mysterious individual
apparently resident in Nevada. Wilson was on Veronica Cunningham's
hit-list of people she thought had something to do with her death.
Although it is likely that Wilson was the man Artemis Black hired
to tamper with the breaks on Veronica's car, the mid-west team still
have no idea of his identity or Artemis's part in Veronica's death.
See case DL1034.
Wilson, Dr
Matthew (Senior Special Agent): Skilled linguist and second
in command of the west coast evidence response team. His dead body
was found in an abandoned warehouse in Los Angeles on 13 December
2000 by officers Renton and Fernandez. He had been shot six times.
In his spare time Williams liked to write pornographic stories.
See case LA10749.
Wilson, Robert (Sergeant): US
army sergeant who died in 1937 onboard a zepplin during his return
from Germany. He was buried in the Irongates Military Cemetery in
Joplin, Missouri. On 12 December 2000 his body was stolen by necromancers
for unknown purposes. See case JOP312.
Winchester,
Chuck (Assistant Special Agent in Charge): At fifty-six years
of age, Winchester is the oldest surviving agent working the Grey
Case Files. This is probably because he has only been in the unit
for a very small amount of time. Leading agent of the North-West
team, Winchester leads from the rear and has no qualms about sending
his agents into mortal peril. Winchester is a qualified MD, and
a skilled surgeon.
Winter (Miss): Ageing and myopic
owner of a motel in Clayton, Idaho.
Winter, Lillian: See Lillith.
Wireman, Derek (Special Agent):
FBI agent attached to the Counter-Terrorism Unit. Accompanied Lois
Ellington and Zachary Vale to a mall in Brightstar, Arkansas on
21 August 2000. The purpose was rendezvous with agents from the
security division. Wireman died at some point during the following
year. See case BRTS002 for
more information.
Wolf, The: Fictitious villain
that is the product of Wendell Wells's overactive mind.
Wolford, Gerald: Representative
of Artemis Black's publishers. Gave Artemis a royalties cheque for
$5,000,000 on 13 December 2000.
Wood, Karma: Sixth victim of Apache
Joe, murdered in Dallas, Texas on 30 May 1992. See case S73.
Wood, Marcus: Chief of Police
in Casper Wyoming. Spoke to the mid-west evidence response team
on 5 December 2000 in regard to case CS1473-IND.
Woods, Brian (Senior Special Agent):
Second in command of the Critical Response unit based in Fredericksburg,
Virginia. Encountered by the mid-west team during their investigation
of case FB563. Benedict was
suspicious that Woods was guilty of the theft. Little things such
as his presence in the building on his day off, and invisible events
in his diary kindled this suspicion. However, it turned out that
Woods was having an affair with his superior, Sandra Wallace. The
mid-west team haven't acted on this information in case they ever
need to hold it against Woods. Woods is a keen athlete, he runs
and plays squash at the Fredericksburg Health Club.
Woodleys: Family who purchased
the farm near Winterset, Iowa that was sold by the Yales.
Woodridge (Special Agent): FBI
agent based in Birmingham, Alabama. One of the multiple Elijah Stones
worked with him in November 2000.
Wooldron, Clyde: Member of the
Counter-Terrorism Unit of the FBI. Currently in New Hampshire working
on Operation: Walled Garden. See case CI0203/NH2.
Wright (Captain): Public liaison
at the US Military base Fort James Cohen. Contacted by Artemis Black
on 5 February 2001 and asked to help in the rescue of Benedict Oaxaca.
He refused. See case JOP312.
Wu, Charles "Chuck":
Jane Munroe's first Taekwondo instructor whom she met on 21 October
1992. After Jane came fifth in the Women's World Championship in
1995 he introduced her to professional coach Normie Meyher.
