Samael: Originally the Archangel of Light, Samael fell from grace with God and is better known as Satan. Samael appeared to Nathan Harlow in the seconds before the Joker killed him on 14 December 2000, in the guise of an Armoured Man. He was seated on a throne in a run down castle between two windows at the very gates of Heaven. There was a window in each wall - one showing Hell and the other a representation of Heaven. Samael plucked Nathan from a conversation with Lillian Winter to give him advice and a six of hearts, neither of which seemed to be particularly useful at the time. His actions demonstrated that he was not in league with Lilith, and that he is not involved in the Game. The silver stiletto given to the mid-west team by the Archangel Michael is actually the hilt of Samael's flaming sword that was taken when he was ejected from Heaven. On 20 June 2001, Jane Munroe returned the sword to Samael (along with Lilith's couch and the Interesting Brick) in exchange for the safe return of Todd, Danni and her unborn child who had been murdered and/or kidnapped. Samael used his sword to breach the doorway into Heaven. Soon after he gave an interview to Artemis Black and revealed his intention to have revenge on his enemies and his old allies (like Lilith) who had deserted him. More powerful that his brethren and not bound by the rules of he Game, Samael predicted he would have total victory in 100 years of human time (or twelve and a half minutes of his time). He apparently prefers the same, "Lucifer".

Sanchez, Emilio: Notorious drugs baron who works in New York. An entire task force has been assigned to track down this man, but thus far the FBI have been unsuccessful. They came closest on 31 January 1999 when Sanchez got the better of Wendell Wells in a one-on-one fight. Wells considers Sanchez to be his archenemy.

Sanders, Alexander: Head of the 212th mining union. Based in Colorado. After the cave-in at the Copperhead mine in Casper, Wyoming of 22 October Sanders levelled groundless charges of corruption against the mining authority. Sanders has little understanding of the realities of mining, and seems more concerned with politics than people. See case CS1473-IND.

Satariel: Fallen angel also known as The Concealer. He is associated with the sin of avarice. Satariel is known to have played the game. Now that Samael has returned, Satariel will probably be forced to ally with his former master.

Sawell, Owen (Special Agent): Worked with Benedict Oaxaca on a case of the smuggling and slavery of young Mexican girls in 1990 (case file MX234-521-CIU). He worked in Child Protection in Los Angeles. His wetsuit-clad body washed up on Venice Beach on the morning of 13 December 2000. He had apparently suffocated, although he had plenty of air in his tank. He was probably another victim of the Joker (case S89).

Sayer, Danny (Professor): Head administrator at the Dynamicorp Think Tank in Winterset. Originally an electronic engineer for Cal Tech, Sayer has been in Winterset since 1995. See case TL348.

Sebek: Egyptian crocodile god that still sponsors many cults in the modern world. See the Eyes of Sebek, Tears of Sebek and Teeth of Sebek.

Schmid, Randy (Special Agent): Until recently one of the agents on the Apache Joe case (S73). He has in fact been working with Vitrano and the others for five years on another case in secret , hence the lack of progress. On 13 December he was killed in a car crash instigated by Nathan Harlow to rescue Todd O'Connell. Ruca was one of the MiBs who fired strange ray guns on a ghostly Nathan Harlow on 6 November 2000. See cases S73 and 0018-GCF.

Schmichael, Elvis (Special Agent): Worked with special agent Bruce Cobb on case BRTS002 before stone-walling forced the agents to turn it over to evidence response. Interviewed by the mid-west team on 27 August 2001. Schmichael is tall and fat.

S.C.H.U.L.T. (Sentient Computerised Holographic Utility - Lifepod Two): The intelligent manifestation of the downed Signai space craft buried deep beneath the headquarters of the west coast evidence response team. However, to evidence response he is simply Schult - the butler of Oscar Harben's house for the last twenty years. Schult does not like people who pry into his nature, but beyond that he is always ready to do anything in his power to help. Schult once admitted to being 5221 years old. He has complete control over the house and the grounds, and can erect forcefields capable of keeping out all manner of powerful entities - including the Joker. It was revealed that Schult was being directed by (and feeding information to) Marc Georgeson. After the destruction of the West Coast HQ on 11 June 2001, Schult has gone to ground. He will probably not reappear until the base has been rebuilt.

S.C.H.U.L.T. (Sentient Computerised Holographic Utility - Lifepod Three): The computer prgramme that ran the Signai lifepod that crashed into the area that is now Winterset, Iowa. See Michael Georgeson for more information.

Schult, Francis Bible (Archbishop): Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of New Orleans. Was summoned to Benedict Oaxaca late in the evening of 21 June, when it was feared Ben had been possessed by the Devil. Schult listened in increasingly horror to tales of Ben's work with evidence reponse. He even got the Pope on the phone for Ben, but put on the phone down on His Holiness when Ben revealed that Samael had visited his church. He introduced Ben to Father Hughes.

Schwarzkopf, Helena (Special Agent): Agent for Victim Assistance in Des Moines. Contact for the mid-west evidence response team on case WNT075.

Scott, Anita: Nineteenth victim of Apache Joe, murdered in Dallas, Texas on 15 June 1994. See case S73.

Scott, Elaine: Secretary working at the Seattle Clarion. Contacted by Clint Stone in connection to case ES174 on 19 June 2001.

Seasons, Bridget: Current chief technical officer of Dynamicorp and cousin to Special Agent Todd O'Connell (they share the same grandmother). Bridget married Henry Seasons in 1996, before moving to Tulsa, Oklahoma and doing post-doc work at Dynamicorp. Bridget was born in Milwaukee. Her role entitles her to a 5% stake in the company. See case TL348.

Second, The: In the prophecies of Horus-Ra, The Second refers to the angels.

Seasons, Henry: Husband of Bridget Seasons.

Shadow Stalker: Eskimo interviewed by North-West team during their case on Kodiak Island.

Shaggai: Better known to evidence response as the Brain Bugs (although they have also been mistakenly referred to as the Signai). They are an extraterrestrial race engineered by the Sil and sent before their fleets as a wave of destruction. The Shaggai broke away from their masters and have since become a universal scourge in their own right. Resembling a giant mosquito, the brain bugs are able phase through solid objects. They use this ability to enter the mind of a human and take control of the body. Brain bugs dislike ultraviolet light and are therefore nocturnal. As a result they do not normally exert control of their hosts during the day. The brain bug goes through a complicated life cycle from fry to nymph to adult and possibly to queen, or other forms of 'royalty'. Aeons ago, the Shaggai were encountered by the Signai - a peaceful race of intergalactic explorers. Although less technically advanced than the Signai, the numbers and aggressive nature of the bugs drove the Signai from their home. Shaggai saboteurs caused a Signai vessel to crash-land on earth in 3221 BC. This first introduced the bugs to our world. The bugs made contact with the humans and sought to dominate them and control the planet, making way for the a vast Shaggai fleet to follow (due on 17 July 2006). The first recorded instance of their activity was in 1942, by which time they had spread and compromised entire governments of some countries (such as the Ukraine). There are at least two castes of brain bug (mystics and scientist). Some brain bugs may take part in The Game - they are currently the puppeteers behind Jane Munroe's unknown opponent. A civil war is currently taking place amongst the Shaggai castes, which is all for the good of planet earth. In the United States a special branch of the Department of Agriculture is leading a covert fight against the brain bugs. The head of this fight (Operation Yuri ) is Deputy Director William DeMontu; Michael Levin is one of his chief lieutenants. They have succeeded in creating a genetically modified maize that poisons the brain bugs in a manner similar to arsenic if imbibed by the bug's host. They are working on an airborne neuro-toxin. The surviving Signai computer, Marc Georgeson, is keen to destroy the bugs. The Shaggai have been encountered by evidence response in Kansas, Idaho and Iowa. See cases WK001, 1097-IN1 and WNT075 respectively. For further details see case 0017-GCF.

Sharkbait: Cannabis-addled cahuna resident on Maui and part-time supplier of illicit substances. Sharkbait aided the mid-west evidence response team in getting to the truth behind the multiple Agent Stones on 2 December 2000. Although he could explain what the old Cahuna, Lehoaoha, had done, he couldn't actually do anything about it. He then accidentally caused the eruption of the volcano of Kahoolawe while trying to summon the life sparks tat dwelt there. The island was destroyed and Sharkbait made plans to move to the mainland should Lehoaoah ever become aware of what happened and seek revenge.

Shaunton, Cecil (Senior Special Agent): Partner of Leading Agent Wyatt Waymen on the Joker case (S89).

Shelton, Jean: Specialist in transmitters capable of bust transmissions, who has been based at Dynamicorp's Think Tank in Winterset since January 2001. A member of the communications team. She normally works five days per week and has Sundays and Mondays off work. Visited the mid-west team at the Church Guest House on Sunday 30 April to present Benedict with a wooden spoon following his botched surveillance job the previous evening. Jean was very pleasant company and Jane asked her to join the group for breakfast. See case TL348.

Signai: Name given by the agents to a humanoid race of space explorers that originated somewhere beyond Alpha-Signai in ages past. The Signai fell foul of the vicious brain bugs (Shaggai). Despite their higher tech levels the aggressive nature of the Shaggai and their shear numbers drove the Signai from their home in great space fleets. One such craft was sabotaged by Shaggai interlopers and fell to Earth, crash-landing in the area which is now Winterset about 5221 years ago. Four life pods were jettisoned during the crash, they came down in what is now Los Angeles, Luxor, Athens and Kiev. The sentient computer of the craft still exists today and has taken on the personality of Mark Georgeson, CEO of Dynamicorp. Georgeson controls the other pods (the ones that are still active). He is anxious to stop the impending Shaggai fleet but is unsure how it can be done. Note the Department of Agriculture originally referred to the brain bugs as the Signai. This is incorrect.

Sil: A dangerous race of advanced extraterrestrial who created the brain bugs (Shaggai) as a weapon. They are highly intelligent and have extremely keen senses and the power to change shape and regenerate wounds. Their technology is in advance of the Shaggai and on a par with the Signai (although they are far more aggressive). They can render themselves invisible to all senses with this tech. Up very close, the Sil smell slightly of lavender. The Sil are active on Earth and are on the books of NTOPFOR. Potentially they are more dangerous than the Shaggai. They have a hatred for magic and are likely to hunt down any Shaggai that are practicing it, but they are cannot be considered allies. They see the human race as ants, it we get in their way they will exterminate us. Whatever aliens took possession of Benedict's mind on 5 June 2001 wanted the agents to think the Sil were the puppeteers behind Jane's role in the Great Game. However, because of their inherently anti-magic stance, this is extremely unlikely.

Silent Raven-Stealer: The Cherokee name of Special Agent Alex Drake.

Silva, Carlos: Physicist who works in cryogenics, who has been based at Dynamicorp's Think Tank in Winterset since November 2000 and is on the verge of returning to Tulsa. A member of the second materials team. See case TL348.

Simon: See Simon Magus.

Simpson, Jeanette: Seventh victim of Apache Joe, murdered in Temple, Texas on 29 June 1992. Her death was not linked to the Apache Joe killings until Elise Steiger's research of 6 November 2000. See case S73.

Sipowicz: Fictitious holder of the bank account where Vitrano and Lavin are depositing dirty money for Michael Hunt.

Skinner, Ethel: Ageing resident of the house in Chugwater, Wyoming that was used as the phantom address for "J Grey" - see case CS1473-IND. Paranoid and with a hatred for "homosexuals and darkies" she nonetheless aided evidence response.

Skipper, Chris: Security card employed at Lewis Sneddon-Small's bonded warehouse. He was complicit in the fraud.

Sloane, Mary: Ninth victim of Apache Joe, murdered in Houston, Texas on 29 August 1992. See case S73.

Smith (Leading Agent): Member of the Inspection Division's cyber crime section who turned up to the west coast team's HQ on 16 December 2000 to investigate Harlow's attempt to hack the files of Vitrano and Lavin. After a judicial alteration of the time line these events never happened, and the agents have never actually met Agent Smith.

Smith, Alice: Second victim of Apache Joe, murdered in Austin, Texas on 30 January 1992. See case S73.

Smith, John: Construction foreman who lives in Augusta, Maine. It was suggested by Marc Georgeson that the agents look up Mr Smith. He is evidently more than he appears.

Smith, Oliver (Special Agent): New agent assigned to the mid-west team on 27 August 2001. Smith is stunning ugly, and has a penchant for large knives. Smith was an upcoming agent, highly skilled in counter-surveillance. Unfortunately he failed to spot a phone tap on a noted senator who was cheating on his wife with under-age Mexican boys. The press had a field-day, and Smith was transferred to evidence response.

Snapes, Damian: Serial-killer brought to justice by Artemis Black in October 1999 Snapes changes his modus operandi at the last moment which led to the death of FBI agent Carol Hunter. Snapes may have been possessed by the Joker. When he was interviewed by Black on 16 October 2000 it was obvious that Snapes knew who the Joker was, and feared him.

Sneddon-Small, Lewis: Owner of the bonded warehouse in Brownsville, Texas that was the focus of case BV004. Sneddon-Small faked a robbery at the warehouse on the orders of drug baron Jose Martinez. Sneddon-Small was arrested on 15 October 2000 where he sung like a canary and gave the mid-west evidence response team all they needed to bring in Terri Madison, Clive Fenner and Emilio "Grippee" Grenzoli. In return he was put in the witness protection programme. If we need to contact Sneddon-Small again, we have to go through Dave Watkins at the Clement Strong FBI Centre in Utah.

Sneddon-Small, Vera: Wife of Lewis Sneddon-Small, arrested on 15 October 2000 for obstruction. Her obnoxious behaviour continued while in custody and in court. She verbally abuses and assaulted her judge is facing prison as a result.

Snift, Sam (Special Agent): Seventh victim of the latest Joker killings. He was murdered on 18 October 2000 at the FBI headquarters in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was cut in half and ritually mutilated while locked in the evidence locker. The corresponding playing card, sent to the mid-west evidence response team was the 5 of Spades, the bottom half of which was cut to pieces. The card was found with 2 of Spades (Nathan Harlow's death) and 4 of Hearts (Giles Kitty's Death).

Solero, Maria: Niece of low-level people smuggler, Sebastian Arista-Butron. Benedict began a relationship with Maria in 1999 that only ended when Benedict returned to the United States to take care of his sick father. Because local law enforcement were investigating her uncle, many of Benedict's colleagues saw the relationship as a conflict of interest.

Solomones, Enrique: A die-hard Cherokee activist and driver for the Houston based haulage firm owned by Clive Fenner and Christopher Bennet. He was in the corrupt pay of Fenner, as part of the artefact smuggling scam with drugs baron Jose Martinez. Solomones delivered a large stone tablet into the hands of Martinez in October 2000. However, Solomones also seems to have had his own agenda. He removed a Cherokee medicine stick from his truck and used it in a ritual to summon a spirit of vengeance. The ritual took his life, and was unsuccessful as the spirit had apparently already been summoned by someone else. He was discovered by the mid-west evidence response team on 11 October 2000 while they were investigating case BV004.

Sparky: Puppy belonging to Elayna Lewis of Winterset, Iowa. Led agents Munroe and Steiger to the mysteriously angelic Mike and Gabe on 13 November 2000.

Spring, Lillian: See Lillith

Star (Doctor): Doctor of Physics at the University of San Francisco. Contacted by Professor Alton on the possibly of holding lectures of dark matter together. Alton disappeared before this plan could be put into operation. See case BRB012.

Stavros: Name taken by the sentient holographic utility manning the Signai lifepod beneath Athens. Stavros works for the Greek government as a tour guide.

Steiger, Elise (Special Agent): Replacement for the deceased Nathan Harlow who joined the mid-west evidence response team on 19 October 2000. Born and raised in Montana, Elise has a keen analytical mind but is also an accomplished tracker and survivalist. Her close encounter with brain bugs on 15 November 2000 left her with amnesia of the evening's events. On 29 November 2000 Elise was killed by tons of falling rubble when Special Agent Wendell Wells causes a cave-in on the Hawaiian island of Kahoolawe. Elise's family were informed of her death on 5 December 2000. Her grandfather, Richard, seemed almost relieved by the news. It is hypothesised that this may have something to do with Elise's odd family tree, but nothing is certain. See also: Elise Steiger Casefile.

Steiger, Janet: Paternal grandmother of Elise Steiger, present at her son's house when Artemis Black informed the family of Elise's death on 5 December 2000.

Steiger, Judith: Mother of Elise Steiger and resident of Montana. Informed of her daughter's death by Artemis Black on 4 December 2000.

Steiger, Richard: Paternal grandfather of Elise Steiger, present at his son's house when Artemis Black informed the family of Elise's death on 5 December 2000. Richard didn't seem very upset by the news - he almost seemed relieved. Why this might be the case has not been revealed.

Steiger, Robert: Father of Elise Steiger and resident of Montana. Informed of his daughter's death by Artemis Black on 4 December 2000.

Stimson, Bertha: Head Librarian of the Joplin Public Library. Threatened legal action against the accident-prone Alex Drake when he almost destroyed her library on 3 February 2001. Stimson was also a member of the cabal of black necromancers intent on summoning the outer god, Yog-Sothoth into our reality from the beneath the Irongates Military cemetery. The attempt was thwarted by the mid-west evidence response team on 5 February 2001, and Mark Neeves was killed in the subsequeny conflagration. See case JOP312.

Stone, Algernon (Special Agent): One of the thirty Elijah Stones encountered by the mid-west evidence response team during case 0016-GCF. May be the real Elijah Stone, although it is impossible to tell. Algnernon Stone worked around Honolulu after the events on the island of Kahoolawe. He was reassigned on 3 December 2000.

Stone, Barnabus (Special Agent): One of the thirty Elijah Stones encountered by the mid-west evidence response team during case 0016-GCF. May be the real Elijah Stone, although it is impossible to tell. Barnabus Stone travelled to Fredericksburg Virginia to investigate case FB563 following after the events on the island of Kahoolawe. He was reassigned on 3 December 2000.

Stone, Barnaby (Special Agent): One of the thirty Elijah Stones encountered by the mid-west evidence response team during case 0016-GCF. May be the real Elijah Stone, although it is impossible to tell. Barnaby Stone worked around Honolulu after the events on the island of Kahoolawe. He was reassigned on 3 December 2000.

Stone, Bertram (Special Agent): One of the thirty Elijah Stones encountered by the mid-west evidence response team during case 0016-GCF. Boris Stone worked around Big Island after the events on the island of Kahoolawe. He was reassigned on 3 December 2000.

Stone, Budd (Special Agent): No relation to Elijah Stone or any of his subsequent incarnations, Budd is third in command of the north-west evidence response team. Budd is a trained chemist and the team's explosives expert.

Stone, Cedric (Special Agent): One of the thirty Elijah Stones encountered by the mid-west evidence response team during case 0016-GCF. May be the real Elijah Stone, although it is impossible to tell. Cedric Stone worked around Big Island after the events on the island of Kahoolawe. He was reassigned on 3 December 2000.

Stone, Clarence (Special Agent): One of the thirty Elijah Stones encountered by the mid-west evidence response team during case 0016-GCF. May be the real Elijah Stone, although it is impossible to tell. Clarence Stone worked around Big Island after the events on the island of Kahoolawe. He was reassigned on 3 December 2000.

Stone, Clint (Special Agent): One of the thirty Elijah Stones encountered by the mid-west evidence response team during case 0016-GCF. May be the real Elijah Stone, although it is impossible to tell. Clint Stone travelled to Puerto Rico to work with Gail Williams after the events on the island of Kahoolawe. He was reassigned on 3 December 2000, but was eventually reassigned to the mid-west evidence response team. He started work on 5 June 2001. The psychic wave that followed the escape of Samael on 20 June 2001 turned Clint Stone back into a fire spirit (a formless spawn). However, Clint had the wherewithal to hold himself together. Twenty-eight other Stones could not to this. Clint Stone has been proven to be the only remaining copy of the original Elijah Stone. However, he vehemetly maintains that he is the original. This was proved to be false when he inadvertantly shot himself in the head on 12 August 201 and exploded in a ball of flame.

Stone, Crispin (Special Agent): One of the thirty Elijah Stones encountered by the mid-west evidence response team during case 0016-GCF. May be the real Elijah Stone, although it is impossible to tell. Crispin Stone worked with AFT in Texas after the events on the island of Kahoolawe. He was reassigned on 3 December 2000.

Stone, Elijah (Special Agent): Member of the mid-west evidence response team. Stone has issues with the supernatural and went to great lengths to cover up the real events of case BR056. Stone went on sick leave on 16 October 2000, and chose to combine this extended time off with a vacation to Tahiti. After sunning himself for several weeks, Stone asked for a brief secondment to Hawaii to spend time with an old colleague, Earl Jameson of AFT. He helped to move squatters off the island of Kahoolawe on 15 November 2000 when he inadvertently broke the summoning circle of the local cahuna (Lehoaoha) and absorbed a number of life sparks (aka fire vampires) into himself. In addition to developing severe pyrophobia each Spark evolved into a duplicate of Stone. The duplicates are identical down to their very genetic make-up and memories. There is no way to tell which was the original. And therefore all the Stones were renamed and posted to separate assignments in the Bureau. To all intents and purposes Elijah Stone no longer exists. The Stone who remains in the mid-west evidence response team is called Quentin. See the entry for Quentin Stone for more information on that agent. See also: Elijah/Quentin Stone Casefile.

Stone, Elmer (Special Agent): One of the thirty Elijah Stones encountered by the mid-west evidence response team during case 0016-GCF. May be the real Elijah Stone, although it is impossible to tell. Stuart, Carl: Winterset resident and race-car driver who participated in the big race at Jake's Field in Winterset on 6 May 2001. He was leading the race until he span off near the end, leaving the way clear for Alex Drake's historic victory.

Strott, Phil (Leading Special Agent): Fifth victim of the latest Joker killings. Murdered by the Joker on 11 October 2000. He was injected with molten tin in Birmingham, Alabama. The corresponding playing card, sent to the mid-west evidence response team was the Ace of Spades with a hole through the middle, found with a nugget of chemically pure tin.

Strutt and Parker: Financial advisers based in Boston. They have been instructed to purchase millions of dollars of shares in the name of Artemis Black in an attempt to blackmail him.

Summer, Lillian: See Lillith

Summers, Dr Jennifer (Senior Special Agent): Medical doctor and member of the west coast evidence response team. Her dead body was found in an abandoned warehouse in Los Angeles on 13 December 2000 by officers Renton and Fernandez. She had died through aphixiation, although it is unclear how. See case LA10749.

Suppoweicz: Runs a bakery directly beneath the apartment of assassin, Peter Dubieniec and often sold him sandwiches. Aided evidence response during case NW988, and held the unshakeable believe that Agent Turn was Jewish.

Sutton, Amy: Electronic engineer working with hostile environment electronics, who has been based at Dynamicorp's Think Tank in Winterset since November 2000 and is on the verge of returning to Tulsa. A member of the second materials team. See case TL348.

Suzanne, Veronica: Member of Veronica Cunningham's coven based at Dallas university. She joined other coven members: Newtridge Hardy, Louise Milton, Colleen Williams, Jane West and Josephine McKenna in Veronica Cunningham's plan to petrify Joshua Blackthorne on 12 December 2000. Like Louise Milton, Veronica Suzanne was not a powerful Wicca, although she was dedicated to Veronica's cause. See case DL1034.

Swords of Solomon: A human secret society that (according to NTOPFOR) are major players in the Game. It is likely the Swords of Solomon were the opponents of Lilith during the Joker case.

Szymanski, Elizabeth: Until recently one of the leading agents on the Apache Joe case (S73). She has in fact been working with Vitrano and the others for five years on another case in secret and just going through the motions, hence the lack of progress. She counselled the Fabers after the death of Kirsty Faber. On 13 December she engineered the murder of fake Apache Joe, Constantine Perez, to help expedite the team's exit from Texas. She also engaged in a stand-off with Jane Munroe and Nathan Harlow as they rescued Todd O'Connell. Szymanski knew that Michael Hunt and Nathan Harlow were one in the same. See cases S73 and 0018-GCF.
