Faber.

- With help from Hudson they predict Apache Joe will kill again
on 4 January 2001, but they don't know who or where.
- The agents decide to use their remaining three weeks sick leave
to investigate Apache Joe and the Joker killings.

- Jane flies to Texas to be with Kirsty Faber's family.
- Elise believes that there are undiscovered victims of Apache
Joe that would help make sense of the pattern.

- The mid-west agents consider the eight outstanding cases before
them.
- The kidnapping of Elayna Lewis seems the most urgent and the
agents head to Iowa.

- The three agents arrive in Winterset: there is something peculiar

- Joshua Blackthorne interviews Elayna's father, Dr Luke Lewis.
- Jane and Elise speak to the local butcher. They are joined by

- First day sales of Victim Schmictim were spectacular.
- Black suspects that the butcher, Midden, could be psychic.
- Elise and Jane release Elayna's puppy, Sparky, in the hope of
getting a lead.
- They meet archangels Mike and Gabe, and are given a strange
silver dirk.

and a link to Michael Levin and Richard Quail.
- Levin agrees to meet Jane on 27 November to discuss his strange
remit.
- Joshua Blackthorne's perforated ulcer acts up and he is rushed
to hospital in Des Moines.

outside Winterset.
- The cultists are possessed by brain bugs and their leader (Quail)
uses magic that cripples Jane.

- The group rescue Elayna and return to Winterset.
- Jane and Elise remain in hospital.
- Jane tells Levin everything, and he agrees to move on the other
farms in the country.
- Black reports the matter to Guthrie.

- The agents blame an Hawaiian witch doctor (the cahuna Lehoaoha)
that Stone recently encountered.
- They head to the island where this encounter took place.

- The agents arrive by helicopter.
- Artemis wants to check out the volcano, but Stone is surprising
reticent.
- Wendell goes alone and is attacked by a fire creature.
- He is rescued by Elise and the pair destroy two of these things
with water.
- When a third attacks, Wendell uses his handgun to create a rockslide
and seal them in.
- Unfortunately, this results in the death of Elise Steiger.
- Wendell is rushed to hospital in Honolulu.
- Artemis phones Eisenstein and demands Wendell be removed from
the team.

- The increasingly mad Wendell escapes from hospital and steals
a helicopter.
- Artemis catches hold of the helicopter skid and tries to stop
Wendell.
- The helicopter crashes into shark infested waters.
