Missing: One Week of Memories

The Brief

On 9 April 2001 the mid-west team returned to their refurbished headquarters for what they thought was the first time. They soon discovered that a week's worth of memories had been stolen from them, and at some point in the preceding week Joshua Blackthorne had been restored to the flesh. The agents immediately began unravelling what had happened to them in the intervening week, and the obvious connections between this case and Case No. DL1034. The following is the agents' understanding of what actually transpired.

The Facts

Following her murder, Veronica Cunningham returned to Earth as a ghost to exact vengeance on those she perceived responsible for her death. She had gained the ability to possess the living, and used this to command her coven to seek out the location of Eisenstein, Artemis Black, GG Wilson, Jane Munroe, Jack Burchill, Bradley Ecks and Philip McKraken. They had mixed success. Veronica also sought out and possessed Josephine McKenna. However, very soon after she had done so, McKenna was arrested by police in Virgina who had finally picked her up following Jane's APB in December.

Veronica posed as Josephine when the mid-west agents came to her on 2 April 2001 and promised to restore Joshua Blackthorne in return for her freedom. While the agents were off around the country collecting ingredients for the spell to restore Josh, Veronica was also in communication with her coven. The agents took the possessed Josephine with them to Dallas and conducted a ritual on 8 April that restored Josh.

Veronica left the scene, but Jospehine McKenna was able to gain control of her own body. She drove to the Wichita HQ to discover what the agents had been doing over the past week. She cornered the mid-west team there and removed their memories of the previous week in the hope they would not pursue the matter. Josephine then left the scene and returned to Texas, where Veronica Cunningham once more gained control of her body. Veronica (in possession of Josephine) then returned to Wichita while the mid-west agents went to Texas to track down their missing week's worth of memories.

In their investigation, the agents inadvertantly caused the death of Newtridge Hardy, but found an ally in Jane West. They deduced that Veronica and/or Josephine were back in Wichita and returned to their headquarters. In the ensuing showdown, the spirits of Veronica and Josephine were banished from Josephine's body. The body is now an empty shell and is kept alive at a local private hospital, the Via Christi Regional Medical Centre (St Francis Campus).

Unanswered Questions

• What will become of Josephine's empty body? Will it be possessed by another entity?
• The coven in Dallas now consists of Jane West, Veronica Suzanne, Colleen Williams and Louise Milton. What will become of the coven now? Will it continue?
• What long-term side effects will afflict Joshua Blackthrone after so long in a petrified state?
