The Brief

During the last week of November 2000 Elijah Stone became increasingly troubled with the inexplicable occurences that had been dogging him since a mission to the Hawaiian island of Kahoolawe. People remembered seeing him places that he hadn't been, messages arrived that he had not sent for and so on. Stone eventually travelled to Washington and brought these fears to the attention of Eisenstein.

The mid-west evidence response team began work on this case on 28 November 2000. The following is the agents' understanding of what actually transpired.

The Facts

The cahuna (Hawaiian witch-doctor), Lehoaoha, lived on the island of Kahoolawe where he communed with "life sparks" that dwelt in the volcano. Lehoaoha hated the presence of white men on Kahoolawe and on the Hawaiian islands in general. He decided to summon a number of life sparks to drive off the white men.

On 15 November 2000 the cahuna got ready to cast his spell. Unfortunately, at the exact moment of the casting Elijah Stone arrived and walked across the summoning circle to arrest Lehoaoha. Stone saw twenty-nine fiery life sparks rush toward him in the circle and enter his body. The shock of this gave Stone pyrophobia, but something far more sinister also happened.

When summoned, life sparks are completely blank slates. They have to be manipulated into a form by the cahuna who summoned them. Because the spell went awry the life sparks all took on the form of Elijah Stone. As a result of the spell the twenty-nine life sparks became exact copies of Elijah Stone down to the genetic level. They all possessed the same memories up to the point they arrested Lehoaoha.

Over the next week or so the thirty Stones became suspicious that something was wrong. There was evidence of him having gone places and done things that he did not remember. It was at this stage that Stone requested help from Eisenstein who sent the mid-west evidence response team to Hawaii. From that point onwards it was merely a case of unravelling the mystery, which was possible with the help of another cahuna, Huanoah (aka Sharkbait).

It was determined that there was no way to reverse what had happened to Stone, and no way to determine which Stone was the original. On advice from Eisenstein all the Stones were renamed and assigned to different assignments in the FBI. Here is a complete summary of the known Stones:

Lehoaoha's spirit left his body as a result of the fatigue of the spell-casting. His body was possessed by the spirit of Nathan Harlow who has subsequently rejoined the team. It is possible that the spirit of Lehoaoha still exists and may make trouble for the team at a later date.

Unanswered Questions

  • Are there any more Elijah Stones thusfar unaccounted for?
  • Will the spirit of Lehoaoha return to inflict his revenge on Nathan Harlow?
  • How will the Joker react when he learns that one of his victims has returned to life?
