Jack's career began as a pursuit driver for the FBI, patrolling
the roads looking for speeding motorists, dangerous driving and
general
suspicious activity. After several years of this and a good record
of chasing down speeding motorists he got promoted to the high-speed
pursuit unit. A special unit focused on chasing down and stopping
criminals that insist on driving well above speed limits. Three
months into the new position, his probation period was up and they
let him loose with the really fast cars. This turned out to be his
undoing with a 27 car pileup on the I-70 which just happened to
be caught on camera by a passing news helicopter. Shortly after
he got shunted into evidence response.
Highlights of his time in evidence response include crashing a
ridiculously expensive sports car, seeing Blackthorne get petrified
in public and almost killed by a powerful geomancer.
Another notable moment in his career is when called in as backup
he flew into an airport, hired a car then returned it half an hour
later because it was too slow. Ultimately arriving for backup several
hours later than he could have. But the car was just too slow.
Events in Depth
The following events have been highlighted as having special significance
for Jack since joining the mid-west evidence response team. Please
see the Timeline to place these incidents in context.
12 December 2000
Assigned to the midwest evidence response team and sent to Dallas,
Texas to be broken in by Senior Special Agent Joshua Blackthorne.
He witnessed Blackthorne's public petrification (Case DL1034),
Jane's reaction and helped to cover up these supernatural events.
After these events, Jack is later sent to New York for psyche evaluation
with Doctor Royston Devries of the east coast team.
13 December 2000
Sent to Vermont to observe fishing community of St. Martins as
part of case 0021-GCF.
14 December 2000
Crashes a $1.5m sportscar belonging to the deceased west coast
team and then encounters the Joker for the first time.
16 December 2000
In a modified version of the current timeline he is shot and killed
by Nathan Harlow who had made a dubious deal with the devil. However,
once Ecks restores the original timeline his death never actually
took place.
19 December 2000
Survives the battle with the geomancer, Mao Sei Ben only to be
almost split in half by a magic spell cast by the mirror ghost,
Plum Blossom (who was currently occupying the body of Jane Munroe
at the time). Burchill's life is saved by Jane who tabilises him
long enough for the agent to be rushed to hospital in Los Angeles.
After nine hours of surgery, Burchill survives. He is reassigned
to the west coast team in the evidence response reshuffle, but due
to medical reasons he will be unable to take up that post for six
months.
18 June 2001
Burchill is due to return to active duty.
