D&D Home > Combat

Firstly, I would like to say that combat is not the central part of the games I run. I roleplay because I like to roleplay, not because I like to roll dice. I do run combat - there are few more apt finales to a game than a climatic martial confrontation with the villain of the piece - and I am more than happy if combat results from the actions of PCs. But, do not expect there to be a fight every session and do not expect adventures to be written so you can fight your way out of them. With this in mind we approach the rules on combat.

The combat section in chapter eight of the PHB is a well-written and comprehensive resource for the combat rules in the D&D game. Combine this with the the extra bits presented in the DMG and numerous other sourcebooks, and the combat system for the game hangs together extremely well. That all said, changes have been made.

This section summarises the rules for combat, actions and the combat round for those of us who don't understand them, or have forgotten them. It also reveals which variant rules from sources such as the DMG or the Unearthed Arcana I am using. Finally it introduces new house rules for combat, such as the use of called shots (or rather it will when I get around to them - Neil)..

Although a great deal of material exists in the Combat Section, it was not all finished in time for the October 2004 launch of this site. I have posted to the net everything that is done, and the rest will hopefully follow in short order. The contents of this section are:
