Prestige classes are going to be with us for a long time, and there
are going to be an awful lot of them. From the six original prestige
classes that appeared in the version 3.0 DMG the number in
offical sources has ballooned into the hundreds. Prestige classes
take the core classes to the next level by offering a higher degree
of specialisation. They replace the concept of Kits from the second
edition game (and I for one am glad to see the back of them). A
prestige class, like a feat, lists a number of requirements that
your character must satisfy before the class can be selected. For
example, you need a +6 base attack bonus in order to qualify for
a prestige. A fighter gains a +6 bonus at level six. That means
he can start advancing in the prestige class from next level - his
seventh character level.
Where the Prestige
Class Master List gives a comprehensive list of all prestige
classes, this section will eventually include all those prestige
classes where I have altered the rules for some reason. However,
I am only going to revise a prestige class if one of my players
has an inclination to play one, otherwise it is too much work. Also
listed below are selected prestige classes that I have not altered
at all (amazing, but true) and links to new prestige classes I have
invented for the Iourn setting. As I examine more classes the format
of this section will have to change, but for the moment it seems
to work well enough.
