D&D Home > Character Classes > Core Classes

Core classes are character classes that can be taken from level one. Each represents the beginning of your character's career path and should reflect the skills and abilities that best suit your character concept. Normally you may only select one core character class at level one, although soem GMs allow apprentice-level characters.

The following list contains all eleven character classes that appear in the Player's Handbook. These are the classes fundamental to the game, and the classes that are almost always available to players. There was a time when these eleven classes were all that was on offer but certain books - particularly since the publication of version 3.5 - have published a large number of other core classes. I have begun to list some of these other classes here, but the list is not yet comprehensive. The GM can't guarantee that these optional core classes will be made available to players in all games, but it never hurts to ask. Also, the canny will notice that many NPC classes have been integrated into these lists and altered to playable version.

Follow the links below to see how I have changed the rules to better accomodate my vision of how a class should operate. On the whole I only list the rules which I have changed but occassionally I have changed so much that it is just as easy to present the entire class from scratch. On with the show:
